Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

We arrive in Disney World May 20th. I was told there would be a "pause" in the Star Wars fireworks at Hollywood Studios. Is this not true? I hope I had a bad mouse on the phone. I loved the fireworks the night of the debut!

It's on the TA calendar for 4-5 nights a week and it comes up on the Disney website.

There is no reason for a gap. The new fireworks will probably start at the new fireworks bunker being built. Stopping old (shot off at the back of DHS) and starting new should not be impacted by each other.

I REALLY hope that is the case. I thought it was ridiculous but the castmember was insisting there wouldnt be fireworks. My 7 year old will be so excited! He was crushed by no RoL. Now if the frozen ride would open....cant win em all I guess

I LOVE the fireworks and music!! My favorite on property.

We caught them by accident when we went last December. We also didnt know it was the last year for the osborne lights. The firework show was the amazing. 7yo fell asleep and missed them, still hasnt forgiven himself. The Osborne lights were extraordinary. I cannot imagine Disney not having them this year. Christmas time at the parks is UNREAL!

I took a special trip down just to do the Osborne Lights. I could sit there for hours. They really were the best thing at the holidays so I hope Disney finds a way to do something similar some where.

I'm having a sort of minor Disney identity crisis or something, so please bear with me! (It's not like we have RoL things to book or anything! :) )

A few months ago, a guest speaker at the high school where I teach asked each of us to think about where we spent our money ... I immediately thought "Disney to vacation with the family"! After a pause, he followed up with "because your heart is where your money is". I just smiled and nodded in agreement.

Funny how things can shift in a short time. If asked that question today, my answer would be "on family trips".

I was (and am) looking forward to going home to WDW this August (it's been over two years since our last visit), but I gotta say that the current state of affairs (upcharges, nickle and diming, etc.) has put a bit of a damper on things. Well, my wallet more than anything. I still love Disney (and my DVC), but there are a lot of other attractive options out there. And, over the next few years, some of them will be getting money that I typically would have given Disney.

This trip, instead of adding the Family Magic Tour and LaNouba to our plans, we're considering Blueman Group on one of our Universal days. (Our last few Orlando trips have benn 100% Disney.) Also considering a HAL Canada-Bermuda cruise in 2017 and NCL Hawaii in 2019 ... DCL doesn't offer anything similar during times I can travel. And while Hawaii would include a few nights on points at Aulani and 2018 might see us use some points at Vero or Hilton Head, it's likely we won't be back to WDW until 2020 ... which is kinda mind-boggling!

I've thought about the dessert party in the past but the area put me off and the fact you miss the parade, that would still be the case I think even if you were in the old FP+ area as you wouldn't go there until after the parade.

My plans for August are even more up in the air than before. ROL????? Interim show????? Any after dark hours in AK????? Nightly fireworks show in DHS????? What the heck do I do with my plans now????? THNX

I hear ya... so hard to make finalized plans... I just figure if nothing new opens for AK at night, it will open a night up to do something different or watch something again at a park... I'm trying to "go with the flow" but it is frustrating not to really know what is happening and when it is happening! I'm sure a lot will be revealed in the next month or so which should help out.

My problem is the nights I have scheduled for AK are EMH nights at DHS. The other problem is if they only have DHS fireworks a few nights a week like they have during May I may need to swap my Fantasmic night. This is crazy being so close to going!

You will definitely be able to see them if you arrive on May 20, the old show is currently scheduled to the 28th - though not every night. Originally I had heard that the old show would run through June 3, there would be no show on June 4, then the new show would start June 5. But this was before the May dates updated.

So a popular Canadian breakfast show is airing live this am from ak at the media preview. They showed the night safari, as well as all the other nighttime events. They say opening this week on earth day for the night events minus ROL.

Yet as of today, three days out, AK is still scheduled to close at 6-6:30 on Earth Day and for the whole week after that...

I love all the parks decorated for Christmas "Disney" style. We've been down for MVMCP, been at MK on parade taping day, Viewed the huge, decorated trees at each park as well as some of the resorts and had the opportunity to see the Osborne lights on several occasions. As beautiful and intricate as the were, heightened by the falling 'snow', it was always near imposssible to wander the streets. The crowds were crazy thick, with strollers being used as battering rams. If you had kids, you didn't dare let go of their hands. Overall, the experience was less than pleasant to me, due to the excessive crowds in that area.
:mic: That's it for me and my soapbox today. I really just wanted to see my Ticker since my trip is almost here...:cool1:

I really don't have a problem with the Wishes Dessert Party, since it's just replacing the old Tomorrowland Terrace Fireworks Dessert Party. And the one and only time I did a FP for Wishes in the new designated area, it was just as crowded as trying to find a spot in the Hub, so I wouldn't have done it again.

The only thing I have against any of the dessert parties now is that you have to stand in line to get in, then stand at elevated the whole time, plus that the desserts are rather, well, not my idea of indulgent delicacies.

I would be much more inclined to pay for the convenience of sitting rather than more standing. I suppose they can get more small elevated tables into the space than normal tables and chairs, but I loved being able to sit at the Osborne one. I think all the others now are standing only, and by the end of a long day, rather than bland pre packaged, tasteless, bite-sized junk food, my senior feet and back NEED TO SIT!
