Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

On the personal front, why does there always have to be a big home expense right before a trip? Hot water heater is leaking, and will likely need replacing .......Internet dish was knocked out with the storms over the weekend. :(

yacks!!! looking at the bright side, you will have a working heater while you are away and not need to worry about your house getting flooded. hope you will get a good deal on the water heater.

The person who writes the Disney Park Blog confirmed there will be FP for the show (at some point)

Yep. We did taxes last night and while we don't have to pay tons, it's more than we thought it would be. Thankfully, my Mom's trip is paid for since we've already paid the resorts, bought tickets and I have gift cards to cover 90% of our meals and such.

I always use gift cards to pay for my meals, too. I buy them every couple of weeks.

We have a 5:55 ADR for Tusker House on a 6pm AK close night 5/2... so if nothing is open after dinner, we're heading to Disney Springs to try to catch the 9 pm La Nouba!

Not a cheap option, but planning to buy discounted La Nouba giftcards from raise.com ( http://geta.raise.com/pbell3 we both get $5, if allowed lol) if we go that route!
My DH & I just saw Kurios for date night in ATL and my kids were jelly. A little more than I want to spend but we would definitely enjoy it. :scratchin

I thought the same thing. I always turn off the main water supply to the house when I'm away because a pressure valve broke on a toilet once. But that wouldn't have worked with the water heater since it would have still had water in it.

Sorry, I'm a bit behind on recent developments - are BOG ADRs difficult to come by even on non-party nights in September?
I had absolutely no difficulty whatsoever at my 180 day. I even continued to check a couple weeks later and I found times. Now, I can't.

Less people want to go to Breakfast, I'm guessing since it's ridiculously overpriced. I'd rather do Dinner and pay a little more and get character interaction from The Beast himself.

Ah so cool! Was it worth it?! I've never seen any cirque du soleil! I was a theatre nerd in high school though so I want to so badly!
Having grown up in Montreal around the time they were forming, I always joke with people that I don't have to pay for one of their performances. We used to see them bouncing around in malls for free all over the place to plug their shows!!! It's true!!

That said... I did catch their show in Vegas once, and a special Kennedy Center performance. If you enjoy that sort of thing, I must admit they're incredible. :)

:offtopic:
I saw Corteo years ago. I was blown away! I don't think I have ever seen a performance that stunningly beautiful.
I wouldn't say Kurios blew me away but it was very clever & well worth the $35 ticket IMO. Lots of comedy set to "steampunk" theming.
Ovo is touring the SE but hasn't listed any ATL dates. I hope they do. I'd love to take my kids to that one.

I give gift cards to my kids as spending money. They love it because they also get to keep the cards afterwards. Both my sons have saved some of their allowance for our trip and when I asked them what they wanted to buy they said "gift cards" :rotfl2:So we'll go to Disney Springs one night before our trip and buy gift cards. Too bad the minimum is now $15 to put on so they can only get two instead of 4 cards. Or is it differently at WDW? At DL it was $15.

Edit: Ouch, cirque gift cards are only 5% off currently, but I've seen it over 15% off. Maybe I should stop telling people my "secret methods" :rolleyes1

Oh, last week, they were 41.5% off. That's not a typo. They were 35% earlier in the day (Wednesday, I think), then 41.5% on Wednesday night. I was just about to buy them right then and get our Cirque tickets, then my wife wanted to ask my kids one more thing in the morning before I bought them, so I waited and... next morning they were just 15% off. Then they were 10% off, and now just 5% off, where they've been for days. I'm really really kicking myself.

I'm wondering how much to wait for them to go for a good discount again, or what "good" even is. And, now I know I have someone else I'll be competing with to grab them!

Aaaah. Here is the reason for the delay. The recent Northeast cold snap made its way to Florida.

I was kicking myself about that, too! They dropped so fast! I hadn't bought them at 35% because we haven't 100% decided on seeing La Nouba while we're in WDW, but I wish I had just grabbed them in case. Hopefully they'll go back up sometime over the next couple of weeks!

I buy the Target gift cards (15% off with the red card) then deposit them in my Dis Vacation Account. Then I use that to pay off the trips, tours, etc , and they will give you a bonus of $20 for each $1000 you spent. I know there are some who have this down to a science, (it's called "churning" and is the subject of a whole lengthy thread...) but this is as far as I go with it. I just got a bonus gift card for $80 I would not have had from DVA, for using those funds I had accumulated there for our upcoming trip. Not a TON of money, but every bit helps!!

I saw Cirque gift cards at Costco, $70 for a $100 gift card. Good at Cirque shows all over the country, including La Nouba. 30% off is pretty good.

I want to see the real Cirque some point. I saw a "fake" one a couple winters ago here in town. It was really bad. I can't remember the name of who it was now but I've learned to not take any substitutes. One day we'll try it at DS because they'll never come here (we are too small for the real thing)

Okay, I'm not crazy! I thought I saw them at 35% and then when I saw 5% I was thinking, "No... I must have been wrong, it must have been like 15%" Grr.. wish I bought then, too!

I had e-mailed George K., as well, over the weekend. Just heard back from "Austin" who said he was calling at the request of Mr. Kalogridis at the Walt Disney Resort to let me know that they still don't have any information and are hoping to know more so they can update us either at the end of this week or early next week. He said they don't have any information at this point and have no information to give out. The same report as everyone else. He said they would call back as soon as they have more information. He was very pleasant and I thanked him profusely for responding.....Then he said it is job security for him and he was happy to do it!

I know your pain! Right before one trip our well pump died. We lucked out and got one the same day one sale and I had a coupon on top of that but we wouldn't be able to get it installed for a week. We were quite a dirty sight outside at night pulling it up and out by hand. The installation went very quickly. I took 2 showers and then a very long bath when we were done! YUCK!!!!!!!! Good luck!

Am I reading this correctly? You can buy Target GCs for 15% off if you use a Target RedCard? I know you can buy Disney gift cards at Target and get the 5% RedCard discount...

Edit to avoid confusion for anyone who reads this later on: the bolded quote was confirmed to be a typo.
