Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

yacks!!! looking at the bright side, you will have a working heater while you are away and not need to worry about your house getting flooded. hope you will get a good deal on the water heater.
We turn our hot water heater off and drain it before every trip. I don't want to come home to a surprise flood!

Am I reading this correctly? You can buy Target GCs for 15% off if you use a Target RedCard? I know you can buy Disney gift cards at Target and get the 5% RedCard discount...
No, sorry, I buy the Disney cards at Target with the Target Red Card....and again, sorry...fat fingered the percentage...it's 5% not 15%, but still when I deposit into DVA and then use those fund to pay off a trip, it goes towards my bonus...

Sheesh...I think I better go find that River Water recipe and get off the computer. Thanks for catching my typos!!

I didn't even catch that. In addition to your question how do you deposit Target Gift Cards in to the Disney Vacation Account? I have one that I used a while back but we've been traveling too often lately to make it worth the effort.

it's not the Target GC....it's the Disney GC from Target. You can deposit gift cards into the DVA just as you can cash or credit card deposits.

Hi all - just coming out of lurk mode to say hello and thank you to everyone for all the information! I am really enjoying this thread and the amusing discussions. We are visiting in August 2016 from Ireland - our first trip since 2009!

A few things:
- Congratulations to Kate on the birth of baby "ROLf"
- Sorry to hear about the car accidents, operations and roof problems, glad everyone is OK
- I laughed when I read that one poster checks this thread before work emails in the morning - that's me too!
- Thank you to the arranger of the pins / tee shirts - I will order a pin and my DSs 12 & 15 (who have been watching me read this thread over days and days) would like a tee-shirt. I just need to figure out how much delivery and duty/customs will cost me!
- The post earlier saying dining packages would be available in May sent me in a panic to check reservations - I didn't notice the Feb date.
- Regarding Paris versus Tokyo, We have been to DLP 3 times and would agree with the poster who said it is a bit disappointing compared to WDW Florida. We still enjoyed it though (3 times!). Paris is a very enjoyable city to visit apart from Disney. My favourite thing in DLP is Cinemagique.

Back to lurking and waiting!!

I've seen La Nouba and It disappointed me. It felt like the show was boring to me. It was a bunch of trapeeze artists and clowns. My personal preference is to do Blue Man Group on the next trip. It is much more fun experience with Comedy that worked, which is hard thing for me to get. Never figured out why most Comedy fails to engage me. It is also a fairly reasonably priced show compared to La Nouba. I payed $45 with my UOR AP.

How far outside of Paris is it, practically speaking? We're thinking about doing this at some point...

Thanks for clarifying! Back to Raise for my Target GCs (hopefully they come up from 0% soon!)...

Remind me what the bonus is? The last time I used it I hadn't had it opened long enough to take advantage before my trip.

Just STOP telling all of us how to plan, be fluid or what to do! That's what is offensive. You have some quote for everything and you are judging our planning, personality type and you know nothing about us! Again I will emulate my first sentiment this was such a great thread and then someone has to jump all over someone's very pleasant, very nice, very innocent comments...so sad :guilty:. We all love Disney that's why we are here. Let's get back to what this thread was about having a great time dealing with ROL frustration and supporting each other in our day to day life! It's been so awesome to see the love and support for the challenges and new blessings in each other's life. I've loved it!!

Don't let some posters comments upset you as there are some posters who love to :stir: regularly. One of the best things about this forum format is the ability to ignore specific posters.

It isn't worth arguing over. That poster was the one calling this thread a "dumpster fire" on EasyWDW, so their opinion of this thread & the people on it is very clear, and that's fine. We're all going to plan as we normally do, and if one person's methods are incompatible with someone else's, it is what it is. There is no "right" way to plan. :flower3:

YES. My mantra, as it shows in my signature. It doesn't matter what works for me, it's not going to work for everyone. It is why when someone asks a question, I always try to answer exactly what they are asking not what I think they should do. No way there is a one size fits all.

For those wanting to see inside BOG without ADR or interest in eating there, they open it for that purpose for the first hour or so after park opening.

This was the case when they only had lunch and dinner but they do not do this anymore. Morning is shut down to all and they have a welcoming "show" then let in the first with Breakfast ADRs. You need to book an ADR now.

AND POOR POOR JENNY ....

I'm afraid the expectations are too great and poor Jenny nor her co-workers are going to be able to give callers the answers they want.

There are two things in play:

- CMs who do not know anything about what WILL happen. Their knowledge is based on what IS happening, how to help with issues related to. This is the majority unless they have hands on involvement with the "project."

- CMs who may have knowledge of what will be happening and they have no permission to share that.

And sadly the training that instills "never say I don't know" .......... so where does that leave them?

Believe when there is a formal announcement, knowing there is a very small chance of change.

Believe when it is up, operating, happening in 3D.

Nothing else is fact. George and his people are not going to "leak" facts.

RoL has been reported from multiple sources, some with direct contact with RoL employees that it is experiencing technical difficulties. Honestly there is no way for Disney to know when they will have all of it resolved since it's not planned issues. I think they are making no announcements because they are working at it hard and hoping all will be resolved to open on time .... but in the meantime they don't want to make folks mad by letting them book FP+ or Dining Packages, to only have to cancel them. Best bet is say nothing and allow nothing until SURE it's good to go. Can you imagine the bad PR if that happened or even if the show went on, but the glitches were there and folks complain the show was a disaster.

There is so much new coming along the next couple of months they are really in a pickle. BUT much is due to overruns so it's crunched all together. And is STINKS for folks traveling during this time. DS heads down tomorrow and after seeing today's bag check lines at noon ........ plans on no bag and not riding much - his tripped planned around a "Dining with Imagineer". We go down in two weeks for the Star Wars races and chose to stay at DS and enjoy DS ... maybe zero park time. We go down in May for an event at the "dark side" and are actually thinking about skipping Disney due to the chaos. We already cancelled our 10 day May trip to avoid it. LUCKY we have those choices, feel so bad for those with big trips planned....

As a comparison (and I know dining not involved):
- 7DMT had an official announcement of official opening on May 2.
- Official opening May 28.
- 26 days notice.
- FP+ could be booked for May 28th on after the announcement.

Disney doesn't always give huge lead way .... and def not until all the glitches are worked. SO that means the LOUNGERS that are traveling next couple months are probably going to be maxed out crazy until official word comes out to the public (and that doesn't mean returned phone calls).

Best bet is all the tiny hints on the HUB etc to try and figure out what is happening operations wise.

I would love to see a LOUNGE for LOUNGERS with drinks involved at the AK. :drinking1It's the least Disney could do for all the mis-information and angst.

Got it. I posted before you answered about the typos, so I was confused about using Target gift cards but not confused now. I used DVA since it started what, 3 years ago now. I did all my funding with gift cards too

Can you deposit gift cards on arrival to your account so you can use magic bands or how would that work ?
