Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Sorry, I'm a bit behind on recent developments - are BOG ADRs difficult to come by even on non-party nights in September?

There isn't a single ADR to be had so far in September. Unless you got CRAZY lucky. I don't want to go on a party night and I couldn't get one. And it's not just BOG - it's all restaurants in MK. They only had them open from 4-6 pm and I guess they booked up within seconds. I got everything I wanted but BOG.

It isn't worth arguing over. That poster was the one calling this thread a "dumpster fire" on EasyWDW, so their opinion of this thread & the people on it is very clear, and that's fine. We're all going to plan as we normally do, and if one person's methods are incompatible with someone else's, it is what it is. There is no "right" way to plan. :flower3:

BOG ADR are always difficult to get. Take party season where there are even fewer slots it's even harder

:offtopic:so....while we wait, and wait and wait...I have a question for you all.

I am trying to convince my sister to go with me on a trip NEXT April (2017). She's never been there:sad2: and no matter what others tell her (even her adult son!), she is really having trouble understanding. I keep telling her that unless you have been there, you just can't know what it's like. She's a skeptic. "Well, I'm not a Neverland kind of person, and I really don't get into Mickey Mouse that much...":scared1:

I know, sacrilegious, right?????

So...anyone with ideas of how I can win her over to try it? We're doing a short trip next week to visit a 90 year old family member, and will be flying - so about 3 hours each way. I plan to try to show her photos of our past trips, and tell her about how much fun we've had, but she's a bull-headed kind of personality, and if it's something that doesn't fit in her perceived way the world turns, it must not be important....HA HA HA

Help me open her eyes to a "Whole New World!"::yes::
Why not just tell her how magical RoL will be!??!!? Show her the shaman costumes -- that alone should be enough... :rolleyes1

In all seriousness... I echo @AngiTN's thoughts... I'd show some videos: Disney specials, and lots to be found on YouTube of particular shows, etc. that you think she may like. If I was REALLY intent on enticing someone, I'd book a trip for a time when there would be something extra that they might like. Like MNSSHP if they're a big Halloween fan... MVMCP if they love Christmas festivities... F&W if that would appeal... F&G if that would appeal...

But in the end, some people just aren't really Disney people. I know... :scared: :scared1: Some MIGHT be able to BECOME Disney people if they tried it, but they won't ever. I'd give it a shot, but also be willing to "let it go". ;) My 2 cents. :goodvibes

Night Safari isn't anything special. It's just the same ride as Kilimanjaro Safaris, but at night. And the evening hours have not been extended yet.
You really think that? You don't believe that seeing the animals at night will provide a different experience? I mean, the animals ARE the entire purpose of doing the ride. Seeing them at night will be entirely different. I don't think it's going to be the same as the day time experience at all. Not to mention how pretty the simulated sunsets will be.

Honestly, I wouldn't push her. If she doesn't want to go but she gives in and goes to "shut you up" chances are very high she'll have a bad time because she really doesn't want to be there.

Not everyone is a Disney person. Some just don't get it, even after going. They are lacking the Disney gene (hard to imagine for sure but they are out there)
Now, some do but if she really thinks it's not for her, it may not be.

My only suggestion is to show her videos of things. Those making of Disney X (parks, resorts, etc) shows that run on the Travel Channel are good choices. And the new 60th Anniversary special for Disneyland is another. See if those can get her to ignite her Disney gene

If you are going to be there during Epcot Flower and Garden Festival you could tell her a bit about that. It's beautiful for all ages, lots to see.
If she's interested in wildlife, maybe talk about how interesting AK is.

Where are you thinking about staying?

OOO...good points...she is into flowers, and loves animals, so I can bring that up. And, AngiTN, your point about not pushing is good too, since pushing too hard would probably only make her resist more.

We actually grew up watching the old DISNEYLAND show every Sunday night. And the Mickey Mouse Club. She really liked the old Nature movies they did back then, too.

I do think she would really enjoy it...she thinks it's all about little kid stuff. I'll see if I have one of those park planning videos around here..I know I was getting them regularly, but I think I have tossed them all out now cause they were older.

Usually a trip for two adults, my favorite resort is Port Orleans FQ. Small, not to overrun with kiddy theming, etc. I know she would love the landscaping there.

Thanks for the tips!

We've usually been able to get them on day +4 or +5 when our window opened, but our next trip is in October & there will of course be parties running... I'll make sure we have another option now.

POFQ would be a wonderful choice, it's such a nice resort. :goodvibes

I know we've already discussed it in this giant thread-about-nothing, but I would also HIGHLY recommend the Wild Africa Trek if that would fit in the budget, since she loves nature/animals. We just LOVED it!!

Yep, I know she would love that...I've done it twice, but it might be a little steep for her budget (actually mine too, this time around), But IF I can convince her to go, it would mean renewing my AP would make sense, and that might mean discounts towards tours, etc.

Thanks for the reminder about the Trek!

If WL refurb is finished by the time you plan to go I would also consider it.

Does she like any Disney movies? What about Star Wars?

I might try to focus on the park you think she might like best.

Where do you think you might stay? Maybe focus on the resort. Maybe she spends less days in the parks and just enjoys the resort.

At the very least I would say she does it have to be involved in the planning unless she wants to. Tell her you will plan it all.

Jenny, Jenny, who can I turn to?
You give me somethin' I can hold on to
I know you think I'm like the others before
Who saw your name and number on the wall

Jenny, I got your number
I need to make you mine
Jenny, don't change your number

8-6-7 ...
Hilarious!! Thanks for getting that stuck in my head.

Focus on the things she might like to do. The animals attractions mentioned by pp and maybe some restaurants she might like. And don't be too disappointed if she goes and isn't converted. My DH and I were one and done on Disney after going as no-kids adults. It wasn't until seeing how excited our kids were and being in a place totally geared toward making things easy for families that we (or I, really) got bit by the bug. It really isn't for everyone. But if she decides to go, I'm sure you'll both have fun.

For those looking for BOG ADRs I say just keep checking. We went in Oct last year and they eventually opened up times from 6-6:55 on party nights. I think these became available in Aug. so I would not assume they are all taken at this point. I would assume they have not all been released yet.

The food is what enticed me the most! When we started planning our first trip, I figured it was all just for the kids and they would love it. That was enough for me. But when I got a little further into it and found out about all the wonderful dining opportunities and yummy snacks, well, I then realized there was really a lot there for ME! I'm not a big thrill ride person, so I was also excited to learn about the more gentle rides that are somewhat unique to Disney (like Soarin', Peter Pan, Kilimanjaro Safari, and Star Tours). Epcot is really a grown up park. I know they work hard to give the kids something to do there, but I know I appreciate it more than my kids do (please hear me, I am NOT saying kids don't or can't like Epcot!!!). Anyway, those are just a few thoughts to get you going. Pushing doesn't do any good, but revealing the adult side of Disney might be just the thing! Oh, and don't forget Disney Springs! If you're talking about staying at POFQ, tell her about the boat rides to DS and all the dining and shopping opportunities there!

They came out for September a couple of days after party tickets went on sale last year. They definitely haven't released all of them yet. :headache:

Just STOP telling all of us how to plan, be fluid or what to do! That's what is offensive. You have some quote for everything and you are judging our planning, personality type and you know nothing about us! Again I will emulate my first sentiment this was such a great thread and then someone has to jump all over someone's very pleasant, very nice, very innocent comments...so sad :guilty:. We all love Disney that's why we are here. Let's get back to what this thread was about having a great time dealing with ROL frustration and supporting each other in our day to day life! It's been so awesome to see the love and support for the challenges and new blessings in each other's life. I've loved it!!
To be honest, I think you are reading more into what he is saying. He is not trying to tell you how to do things or judging you, he is saying how he did it. Let's all take a step back and breathe. We don't want this thread to turn ugly. :)

It's hard to suggest without knowing what she likes and doesn't like.

Is she OK with crowds or hates them?
Is she a people watcher? You could write books after watching some of the families 'enjoying' their trip of a lifetime...
Is she a foodie? Show her some of the 'not kiddie' restaurants.
Does she like rides? Shows? Plenty of options
Special events like F&G?

Maybe a good approach is to find what she does enjoy and sell the aspects of the trip that fit her likes.
