Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Hey Loungers! I missed the hootenanny over the weekend. I was helping to make some TFA Snowtroopers... lots of quilting goodness! It seems that the RoL is still on a holding pattern, as far as fastpass goes.

How are we doing on Lounge shirts? Has a design been approved yet? (I assume the DIS would need to approve a design if it has any relationship with the DIS forums.... maybe it's an incorrect assumption.)

I would rather have them say.

"Testing for RoL is ongoing. We are doing everything possible to make the show available on that day and remain confindent that our guests will be able to enjoy the show. We will be releasing updated park hours, schedules, Fastpass availability and dining packages efective immediately. Should we be unable to meet the target date, we will still continue with all the other evening activities and do everything in our power to ensure our guests have a fantastic evening."

That is what I would like to see them say and also what I think they should do.:thumbsup2
I think everyone planning trips (especially for that first week) could accept the risk of a now show, and gamble on tying up a fastpass as long as we could secure plans.

I agree with this 100%! I would really like extended park hours and an evening in Animal Kingdom with the possibility of Rivers of Light (and then if it gets delayed, oh well). Unfortunately, I think we won't hear anything until after I've left (leaving this Saturday) and once I'm there, I won't be checking all the time. I guess I will need to leave April 22nd open in the evening and see what happens (thankfully we have park hoppers).

I don't equate planning with possibly being rigid. I equate "finalizing" park days with possibly being rigid. I agree planning is instrumental to success but finalizing something before it needs to be finalized can leave you in a bad spot. if ADR no show fees are the concern, then you have until the day before. I understand the desire to want more than what you have now, but fact is we don't have the info. Finalizing plans now (before there is a need), with a good indication that big news is on the cusp of breaking removes options. My suggestion is to keep yourself as many options as possible for as long as possible, then make the best decision you can with what you have. Or, plan as if there is no RoL, BUT make your plans interchangeable should something called RoL be offered. Remain fluid and finalizing before there is a need (not a want, a need) is rigid, not fluid.

I don't think we got lucky...I don't think luck had much to do with it. I didn't call and ask to avoid the no show fee. I called the restaurant directly and told them we would not be making it for our ADR. They immediately offered to move back our ADR which we initially declined because we had no clue how long we would be stuck in the airport. So, they then offered to add us on for the same time the following night but said we could come in the original night whenever we got there.

With each instance, I didn't count on not being charged. My actions weren't to avoid being charged. I had every intention on making both ADRs, but due to circumstances out of my control we weren't going to able to make them. I knew when I planned an ADR on travel day the risk I was taking...that was on me and had we been charged, I would have fully understood.

Just STOP telling all of us how to plan, be fluid or what to do! That's what is offensive. You have some quote for everything and you are judging our planning, personality type and you know nothing about us! Again I will emulate my first sentiment this was such a great thread and then someone has to jump all over someone's very pleasant, very nice, very innocent comments...so sad :guilty:. We all love Disney that's why we are here. Let's get back to what this thread was about having a great time dealing with ROL frustration and supporting each other in our day to day life! It's been so awesome to see the love and support for the challenges and new blessings in each other's life. I've loved it!!

Just popping in to say that I'd rather a statement come out that ROL is not ready. That way I'd be able to switch my AK and Epcot days. We only get three days in the parks and didn't buy park hopper, and we have to go to work the next day, so currently my schedule is
Friday 4/22 AK, lunch @ Yak&Yeti
Saturday 4/23 MK
Sunday 4/24 Epcot, 7:30 reservations at Jiko (our car will still be parked at Kidani) and then we drive home that night
Monday 4/25 back to the real world.

If AK isn't going to be open at night by 4/22, I'd rather know now so that I can make my AK day Sunday, planning for close at 6:00 pm or whatever. I don't like the thought that I might have two out of my three days leaving the parks at 6:00 pm :(

I would just go ahead and switch, but that would mean officially giving up on seeing ROL anytime in the next decade, and I'm worried I won't be able to get my fastpasses again since we're so close.

:offtopic:so....while we wait, and wait and wait...I have a question for you all.

I am trying to convince my sister to go with me on a trip NEXT April (2017). She's never been there:sad2: and no matter what others tell her (even her adult son!), she is really having trouble understanding. I keep telling her that unless you have been there, you just can't know what it's like. She's a skeptic. "Well, I'm not a Neverland kind of person, and I really don't get into Mickey Mouse that much...":scared1:

I know, sacrilegious, right?????

So...anyone with ideas of how I can win her over to try it? We're doing a short trip next week to visit a 90 year old family member, and will be flying - so about 3 hours each way. I plan to try to show her photos of our past trips, and tell her about how much fun we've had, but she's a bull-headed kind of personality, and if it's something that doesn't fit in her perceived way the world turns, it must not be important....HA HA HA

Help me open her eyes to a "Whole New World!"::yes::

Honestly, I wouldn't push her. If she doesn't want to go but she gives in and goes to "shut you up" chances are very high she'll have a bad time because she really doesn't want to be there.

Not everyone is a Disney person. Some just don't get it, even after going. They are lacking the Disney gene (hard to imagine for sure but they are out there)
Now, some do but if she really thinks it's not for her, it may not be.

My only suggestion is to show her videos of things. Those making of Disney X (parks, resorts, etc) shows that run on the Travel Channel are good choices. And the new 60th Anniversary special for Disneyland is another. See if those can get her to ignite her Disney gene

If you are going to be there during Epcot Flower and Garden Festival you could tell her a bit about that. It's beautiful for all ages, lots to see.
If she's interested in wildlife, maybe talk about how interesting AK is.

Where are you thinking about staying?

Oy....so now, the "next week" we got from the calls on Saturday could be "next week" as in April 11...ugh. I'll be on another trip then, (to visit 90 year old family member in Phoenix...possibly for the last time...) so won't be checking in often. I hope "end of this week" pans out...

Thanks for the update....
Too funny Jeanne - I will be in Phoenix next week too. I leave Sat. Going to visit relatives for a few days then a conference at the end of the week

It isn't worth arguing over. That poster was the one calling this thread a "dumpster fire" on EasyWDW, so their opinion of this thread & the people on it is very clear, and that's fine. We're all going to plan as we normally do, and if one person's methods are incompatible with someone else's, it is what it is. There is no "right" way to plan. :flower3:

@KMWoolley - we actually moved our Oct trip to Sept bc I didn't want to be kicked out of MK at 7 pm 4 out of 6 nights of my trip!

@wdw4rfam - still searching like CRAZY for the Sept ADRs for BOG. It's making me nuts. They changed the hours overnight but never opened a single ADR. I was on at 6am the morning it was changed and there still wasn't anything open. What is going onnnn?!!

@AngiTN - it was impossible NOT to hear lol. We were like WHAT IS THIS!?

I plan like a crazy person - with an Excel sheet and everything - but I keep them open to be changed. If say we don't feel like spending X amount of hours that morning, NBD! My cousins don't plan anything but ADRs, not even FP, because they can't do anything on time - that's what works for them. Every single person/family has a method that works for them. I don't see how it should have an affect on anyone else! :)

Sorry, I'm a bit behind on recent developments - are BOG ADRs difficult to come by even on non-party nights in September?

Is there any news on how the Night Safari is coming along. When is that supposed to start? (I am talking about the one at AK Park not AK Lodge.)

Night Safari isn't anything special. It's just the same ride as Kilimanjaro Safaris, but at night. And the evening hours have not been extended yet.

BOG reservations are cutting off at something like 6 for all nights in September. That also seems to be the case with other restaurants inside MK.
