Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Some things will always be mysteries, or at least I will never quite understand... dark matter, how were the statues on Easter Island built, unification theory, how/why Disney IT is so messed up... :rolleyes1

No, I think we all know why Disney's IT is so messed up. At least, those of us who work in IT do. Cutting corners doesn't make for the best product.

The mystery to me is WHY they'd cut corners here when it so obviously has an effect. This is an area where they are noticeably worse than other businesses -- consistently.

Know people say "they don't have to bc they're still successful" -- but this is so obviously inferior to what they should have as an IT competency and presence for a company this size.

if one is going to book multiples, I think it's more likely than not that they will cancel the ones they won't be using - and then they can be picked up by somebody else. It's not like the "old days" when there were a lot of folks who booked multiple reservations and then just didn't show up for some of them.

And if you're going to book multiple reservations and use all of them - fine, so long as you are going to use them. There isn't any "one reservation per party" rule. Face it, if you go more than once ANY time you might conceivably be taking up a reservation that could have been booked by somebody who has never seen the show. So you want to see it again, you have as much chance as anybody else has.

There's always that argument that some particular category of guests deserves to have first pick. Once in a lifetime guests. Parties with young children. Parties with ANY children. Parties who have a special celebration. The only way you get first pick is to use the 180+ 10 if you stay onsite.

There is a DIS forum thread where you can announce you have an ADR to release, and anyone who wants it can PM you to coordinate the release so they can hopefully pick it up. I've been able to find several ADRs that are hard to get that way, and have also be one of the "releasers"...it's nice to be able to help out another DISer....
Yes I have successfully passed off a a couple of BOG ressie a and an A&E fast pass that way. It took some coordination but b
Every time was succesful. That was one happy pop who got the A&E fp. I recently had a Dine with an Imagineer ressie to drop and was surprised there were no takers

In addition to being a Disney geek, I am also a computer scientist geek. I have filed two software patents on managing high volume web traffic (plus others.) Over the years, I have come to two conclusions about Disney and their web presence:

1) Disney produces VISUALLY beautiful user experiences without regard to other aspects of the user experience such as content, performance, usability, and [drum-roll] scalability. So in Hollywoodland speak, "It's filmakers doing websites!"
2) They don't care. We'll come, we'll spend, we'll live happily ever after. Let it go!

Also a programmer, and I think you hit the nail on the head. However, I would also add that they probably put unreachable deadlines on their developers, so pages get deployed while being buggy and largely untested. Which is actually pretty common in the programming world - think Windows, the Obamacare website, etc.

I will say MDE is MUCH better than it was two years ago.

Have they revealed the ROL show times?
Not yet. They are having that RoL chat session on Mar 8 -- hopefully more info then... https://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2016/03/rivers-of-light-live-chat-set-for-march-8-at-115-p-m/

"To learn more about the work going on behind the scenes at the show, we’ll host a #DisneyParksLIVE chat right here on the Disney Parks Blog on Tuesday, March 8 at 1:15 p.m. EST with two of the show’s creative team members, Michael Jung and Mark Renfrow. They’ll be ready and waiting to answer your questions about the show’s theming, storyline, technology, staging, music and much more. And of course, it wouldn’t be a #DisneyParksLIVE event without a surprise or two.

We’re already taking questions here in the comments section (and will continue to do so through live chat time on Tuesday). We’ll get to as many questions as possible during the chat, so please ask away!"

Nothing appears on MDE for a ROL search now but it did show yesterday... Thoughts?
My thoughts? Everyone needs to stop looking and wait on the announcement
Everytime someone here finds a back door in to booking things before it is released it is full of problems
CM don't have a clue about details and they book things they shouldn't and then the guest gets irritated when the CM doesn't have details
Read back on some of the posts related to the Food and Wine premium package for a prime example
