Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I've been away, and mostly lurked... :wave2: But wanted to come back!
I honestly believed all this waiting and hoopla would be over by now and I would be hearing glowing reports about RoL.pixiedust:
Didn't happen.:sad2:
Well, I have carefully saved my Rumors of Light pins to wear in December. Still hoping to be surprised with an actual show.
So sad...

I can understand what you meant Hatbox. They threw the bait before the knot was tied. A lot of us, who spend a whole lot of time planning and getting prepared, have been thrown a curve ball in our preparations for our trips. Or were even coaxed into planning a vacation, buying the plane ticket, to realize one of the most exciting developments of the year was/may be non-existent. I for one can not book and plan a Disney vacation less than 180 days out. That is not how I do things. So, this ROL debacle is a heart breaker. At least we have Frozen and Soarin' too look forward to this year!!

Now, even though I am sad about it, I do not blame Disney for a purposeful mess up. I'll give them the benefit of the doubt and assume it wasn't a way to grab ticket sales, while knowing it wasn't going to happen. Faux innovation or whatever. The more I think about it, the more I wonder if Avatar Land and ROL would prop each other up in the end. And therefor, AK night hours will be more worth Disney's time when Avatar opens.

Yay! For Frozen and Soarin' and boo for little nighttime hours in October at AK. I think when I have day dreamed about this upcoming trip for the last 1-2 years the night hours at AK was what I thought about most as being the biggest difference and most anticipated trip component.

I think a "bait and switch" theory makes absolutely no sense.

Disney obviously didn't INTEND RoL to be a disaster!! Thus they didn't "bait" you deliberately with one thing and "switch" to something else on purpose with the intent of fleecing you in some way. Nonsensical.

Not surprised that wasn't so well received.

I stand corrected and bow to your enthusiasm to endorse corporate greed over customer service.

I started a thread over on community board entitled "bait and switch" (maybe I was a bit harsh and inflammatory towards Disney Corp) that basically vented my frustration in planning a vacation with ROL being one of my main draws back to wdw when I started planning last year and now here we are in Oct and the main thing WDW is advertising for fall is MSEP getting the hook. Let's just say the "true" Disney fans did not take my bait and switch jab at wdw very lightly and mounted quite the defense on Disney's behalf. Walt would be proud of their efforts, I'm sure. But I wonder what he would have to say to the ROL team???
Ok maybe you should post the link to the thread so people can see both sides.

It's easy to say the other posters, who you assumed were the "true" Disney fans, were in the wrong and you were in the right.

FTR it had nothing to do with people being "true" Disney fans it had to do with your term of "bait and switch" as you were describing it. And obviously other share that sentiment even without the link.

Ouch! I see you edited your response to add the "corporate greed over customer service" statement so you're clearly still upset about this.

I understand, but is Corporate Disney really any more greedy than every other large corporation in America? And I still feel Disney's Customer Service stands head and shoulders above the rest!

We learned our lesson years ago with Test Track. We were given opening dates, planned trips around them and were disappointed 3 times. It happens! I'm confident the last thing Disney wanted was for the delays that have occurred.

I think if they cared about the customers that booked trips based on ROL and night time AK activities they would put something in its place for this fall. Maybe it's my fault for not traveling in the summer.

I think the JB show proves that putting something rushed in there as a placeholder isn't much (any??) better than having nothing showing. I say that as someone who saw it this summer.

They messed up with ROL. No company is perfect. I'd rather they wait until they get it right than put out JB Part 2, personally.

This had me thinking…. what would be part 2^? :scratchin

*web video* On a dark moonlit field a lotus blossom opens to reveal a single flame. Within the flame we see the silhouette of Mowgli growing from boy-cub to man. The screen changes from night to daylight, from fields to the cities of India as the Mowgli image steps out of the flame into the world of men. *Catchy dance jingle plays* Continue the fantastic voyage beyond the jungle! Join Mowgli and the friends he meets along the way in exuberant celebrations. Become enchanted by the stylizations and magic of this dance spectacular. Silhouettes of Mowglis "friends" performing Bollywood stylized dance across the screen as the music plays. Each one dancing with a lotus. Eventually circling to create one large lotus flower in silhouette that takes over the entire screen. On it reads, Part 2: Beyond the Jungle, a Dance Spectacular!

^Any semblance of this whimsy and actual Disney plans are purely conjecture on my part. The above should not be taken as a rumor, but perhaps a satirical expression (possibly also further cultural appropriation) in order to bring "more magic, due to guest demand." Because guest demand generates so many great ideas!
:rolleyes1

Coming out of lurk mode to share that Touring Plans has ROL listed as an option starting September 15th. Clearly speculation at this point as Disney hasn't released their own info yet but I hope something comes of it.

Been on there a LONG time with no other source saying the same.

Well LOUNGERS yesterday at AK was interesting. I will give detailed report when I have time (here until Wed pm) but, wow.

On the "positive" crowds low. Friend said Sunday only 18000 in MK ... That is way under a ticketed party! Heading there today.

Hi All! :wave2: I'm back from my short but very fun trip to WDW. I went to the Star Wars Galactic Dessert party with a friend, and we had the best time! I highly recommend it. I would absolutely book this party again. :cool1:
We went to AK the second night and rode the Safari about 9:00pm. It was OK, but mostly it was just hard to see anything. I won't go out of my way to get FP's at night again.
We also enjoyed the Nighttime Magic at the Tree of Life. It was just beautiful!:flower:
I'm looking forward to back reading and catching up. :goodvibes

We were at AK yesterday as well. We opted not to go back after our afternoon break for the nighttime activities. I never thought when this thread started that ROL wouldn't be an option for our August trip!

Hmm I must have missed it. I've been updating my touring plans for the past month without seeing ROL on there before now. Thought it must be new when I saw the info pop up in a couple of FB groups I follow, as well. Sorry for the false alarm then!

It's cool :goodvibes I find it surprising that a highly used website would have posted that and then forgotten about it as we trickle along. ALL the big sites and blogger are best buds and always talking and following each other. IF they had legit info I guarantee EVERYONE would be talking about it and digging for more info.
