Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

Hmmm, well there goes that idea lol. I don't care enough about seeing MSEP for a dining package. I take it the dining package area is near town hall then? Not near hub?

Correct

Today is our AK evening day! Can't wait to experience everything!

We had an awesome day in MK yesterday. We got there for rope drop and the first thing we did was go to the barber shop to get "pixie dusted". As we were leaving the barber shop a CM stopped us to ask a few questions - said she noticed us because my DD and her boyfriend(20 & 21) were skipping as they came up to the barber shop. She asked if we would like to watch the 3pm parade in the shade - we said sure. Next thing we know we are Grand Marshals for the 3pm parade - it was awesome and such an amazing experience. We had so much fun riding in the car and seeing all the people and CM wave at us. Definitely a once in a lifetime experience.

WOW, that is really special!!!

It was!! We had so much fun! After coming to Disney for almost 20 years this is the first time we have been selected for anything like this. I'm trying to post a picture but the DIS keeps saying they are too big. I'm on my phone and iPad so I will have to play with it later.

Ok guys... this is THE most :offtopic: thing I've ever posted here but can't resist!!!!!

Today is my birthday, and it also happened to be the annual luncheon for the nonprofit I am on the Board of. MAJOR coup for us, Oprah Winfrey was our keynote speaker -- already a HUGE deal!

At the end of her speech, she announced that she was donating $1M!!!!!!!!!!! :worship: :jumping1:

A total surprise to all of us -- this will do so much good for homeless women in this city -- I am just SO grateful!!!! :worship:
Hope u had a wonderful Birthday

That is AMAZING!!!! That famous quote "I won't grow up" allows adults to skip, get pixie dust and ride in parades!! How wonderful! So excited for you!!! :earboy2:

I LOVE when adults are focus as grand marshalls. In April when I went I actually ran (yeah that is not my thing) across the hub so I could get this guys photo. This pup was so excited, running back and forth to each side of the car, tail wagging. If he could have waved he would have.

Headed into HS this morning wearing this to honor those who lost their lives or were injured yesterday.

What a great way to use a MB collection! More Love, Less Hate!

So they just reported on news that this guy had WDW in his sights. How much more horrific could that have been if he has done that instead

And yet people still are complaining about the extra security measures Disney has taken at park entrances (not on this thread, but on others). I welcome each and every effort any corporation takes to help make me safer. Yep, sometimes the lines are a bother, but I hope one thing that comes out of this tragedy is the fact that people realize that the world has changed, and there may be times we are inconvenienced a little to make us less of a target.

Hello Loungers!

We had a wonderful time at the MausHaus. Our reunion went so well they want to meet again! It'll be in a different city so not everyone has to travel all the time.

A few words about our Animal Kingdom experiences on June 2nd:
- The tree animations are spectacular. Cast members would not affirm the "kiss goodnight" was going to happen just that the park closes at 11pm... which was weird. Luckily, we had Yulilin "on our shoulder" whispering... stay, stay... you'll love it. Indeed we did, and had front row seated spots from 10- 11:15pm to watch the animations. So awesome!

- The night parties were very well done. We had a nice time enjoying the cool of the evening and the dancing in the streets.

- In my opinion, the shows at AK are very different from one another. Being in theatre, I appreciate that their theatrical lineage and inspiration are very different from one another. Comparing them without this acknowledgement I think is a dis-service to what they are. I suppose a non-theatrical comparison would be that a car is not a bike, which is not a skateboard, but they all have wheels and are modes of transport.
- - - Finding Nemo is your typical braodway/musical theatre one-act show. It's songs are derivative of historical musical theatre styles. Festival of the Lion King has its lineage in the thrilling cirque style with excellent audience participation as well as its sung storytelling, immersive set and character costumes. Jungle book personifies characters through dance and music. The storytelling is in the choreography for the individual character. It uses singers to enhance the dancing, not to tell the story. The audience focus is on dancers and live instrumentalists, and while the singers are in the center, they are ultimately ancillary. Jungle Book is a dance performance piece, Nemo is a musical theatre one-act and Lion King is a cirque spectacular; they are all theatrical. For my experience, they were all entertaining in their unique expression of theatre.

- We found our dining package seating to be excellent. We arrived early for the 9pm show and sat on the very last row. This enabled us to stand without blocking anyone if we wanted to stretch our legs, and we were not on the stone benches. The space in between the row in front of you is very tight.... tighter than some plane rides I've been on!

- More JB notes: The water met in the middle for the screen, but was still blurry. Had we been 100ft away I bet it would have been more clear. It is a still night, so no major wind to move the curtain of water. During the "red flower" dance, some lightening was going off in a cumulonimbus cloud in the distance. It seemed to get stronger during the dance, so naturally I thought.... golly, their dance is so authentic they are calling down the lightening! Of course, that may not be true, but the dramatic theatrical and natural lighting effects were exciting. (The cloud was not so near that they cancelled, we saw the whole performance.)

- Nomad lounge is a beautiful oasis with delicious drinks. If I return to AK, I plan to take a lot of time to simply enjoy the Nomad. The JB dining package on 06/02 was a value considering the cost, and we greatly enjoyed the meal. It's a quality signature restaurant and worth a look around. I would go there again.

- It was AK GayDays, and we saw a few red shirts. I had my rainbow lei and red shirt celebrating with gusto!

- Bring glow sticks for some fun nighttime flair!

Great review. I especially like what you've said about the shows. I've always loved both Nemo and Lion King, but couldn't put my finger on why, and you nailed it!

Did anyone see cnn right now? A two year old grabbed of the grand Floridian beach....I saw this and my heart shattered. And the orlando shooter apparently scored disney springs during gay days first week of June....My heart is so sad right now. All my prayers go to orlando tonight.

To be detailed, the child was playing in the water in the dark (about 9:30 pm) with Dad standing nearby. The gator did not come up on the beach, he did what would be natural to him at night probably thinking it was a duck or small animal. Or being breeding season might have a nest in the growth that's not far and being protective. Going in the water is not allowed and signs are posted everywhere.

Absolutely HORRIFIC for this poor family! :sad2:

Yes I saw he was about a foot into the water, I just find it hard to believe or understand why the beach is open to the lake. Why not have a deck built out over the lake or something. I know a beach is prettier but not safer. I just feel like that family was let down. I get gators are part of the natural landscape but in an environment where everything else is controlled (even smells) why was this not a forseen issue. With small children running around constantly disney should have known an alligators natural instinct could prevail. Signage is a weak prevention. We have all been in the parks, what percentage of people read let alone abide by signs.

I think im so bothered by this because I have a one year old. We we left disney right before this crazy man apparently scoped out disney springs and we took a pirate fireworks cruise on this lake and contemplated watching fireworks from the beach. I think about my child getting carried off and its heart wrenching.
