Rumors of Light (ROL discussion thread)

I'm lucky if i can drag DH to AK once per year but with all the additions even he is interested in visiting.

Don't get me wrong, we love 'our' AKV as to theming. Just that the park is always so darn humid & hot mid-day. It seems to be the park where kids seem to melt down the most. :confused3

Thrilled they are expanding into night time hours:bounce:, adult only trips with pool time in the am & parks in afternoon are among those best kept secret at the parks with longer summer hours!

Still seeing last safari for 6 pm my dates. Wonder if they will offer later ones in early May? Will keep checking that too while i'm at this watch.

He said there are a lot of rumors about what's going on and while he couldn't confirm anything, he told me as soon as I see the post on the blog with the pkg availability to call asap as its expected to book very very quickly.
Thx for posting! Were you guys talking about the dining package ADRs or rumored preview events?

I know what you mean about it being hot and humid. It seems like it is about 10 degrees hotter than the other parks !

When I logged onto MDE a few minutes ago, the website looked totally different. Everything was showing as boxes that you could scroll to the right, each box had a title like Events, Special dining, character dining, Attractions, etc...

I got excited, I thought the new look of site meant things had been loaded...i clicked on the box with the title Special Dining and looked for ROL. They had the dessert parties, Fantasmic dining, dining with imagineer etc all in this category...no other dining. So this was totally different with how it is usually.

Anyhow...ROL dining wasnt there. When I hit the back arrow to go back the main screen the site was back to normal...format was the usual way. All dining under one heading..

I swear I wasn't hallucinating. I wish I had taken a screencap of it. Anyone else see it?

lol no screenshots necessary here, you're among friends! interesting, thanks for posting, perhaps they posted too soon and removed it.

I don't want to read anything into this but it sounds to me that you won't have a chance booking online. I can only book online, I have no international calling on my cell plan :scared::sad:

I've been so busy, can someone please sum up the current information/rumor floating around now for ROL. :thanks:

1. There was a moment that we thought that Dining was booking the Preview parties, NOT the dining packages. It was short-lived and back to "delayed no further information."
2. The DIBB posted that ROL is still scheduled to start 4/22 but that dining packages and FPs wouldn't be available for "a few weeks" maybe? Correct me if I'm wrong people.
3. New blog post on DPB about fun nighttime activities for tweens in AK, but no concrete information, or replies to questions.
4. Can't think of anything else? Anyone?

Can someone please tell me how to request blog alerts? Thanks!!

I don't know how either!

I just hope that the crowds who are there mainly for one of the ROL shows don't overwhelm the other attractions. It will be interesting to see how they manage the flow of people, since many things will not be open.

I'm really looking forward to the sunset safari also, but other than that, not too many other attractions that can't be done during the day.

I think that sums it up :thumbsup2

So who wants to clutter up the thread even more?

Excluding rivers of light, what nighttime ak experience are you most looking forward to?

Personally I can't wait to see how they do the sunset safari.

Definitely the sunset safari - but also Everest! Of course, I am the only one in my family that likes it, so it's single rider line for me! it's funny, we love AK but usually do one rope drop each trip. We always say that we'll go back for a late afternoon, but have never quite made it! We decided to stay at AKL to be closer to AK this year, before we new about any off the new nighttime stuff!

Given what people reported from the DIBB today, I'm just looking at 4/22 as a bonus night for us, since it wasn't already in our plans. I am hopeful, but not counting on getting on any of the attractions and such (maybe 1 single rider EE, please?) - just hoping to soak up the nighttime vibe!

this is exactly how I'm feeling at this point too--we planned our AK day for April 21st, and April 22nd we're moving from CSR to GF, so we originally planned it to be a relaxed day to explore the resort. we'll probably go to AK for part of the evening, although I do think for us it depends on whether we get FP/dining reservations for the day. without them I don't know if the crowds will be prohibitive for us--it might just be more of a game-day decision.

Makes sense. I'm not changing hotels, but changing rooms since originally we were departing on 4/22. At this point, I'm all over the place. We were going to go to MK extra magic for a couple of hours, then unbeknownst to DH, I have scheduled an unsanctioned Ohana late breakfast since my DD was sad we were skipping it this year, then back to the hotel to hang at the pool until we go into AK. Not sure how I'll squeeze in moving rooms if we go to MK early (that was our plan originally when we were leaving Friday night). If we can't get anything reserved, I'd probably just eat by the pool before we go in.

Great park blog post comment on the Tween/Party animal subject.
"Park hours for April 26 show only open until 6pm – pretty hard to have a party like this when you are not open." Keith (Maybe someone on this thread?)

Yup. That pretty much sums it up. How are do they plan for us to enjoy the magic of nature after dark when the park closes at 6? o_O
