Because to most people on these boards any type of change is a cutback. If they take out a D ticket attraction to put in an E ticket attraction (which isn't theme'd the way they want) it is a downgrade/cutback.
I don't quite think that is the case here. At first thought it does SOUND like a cutback. I mean, come on, replacing something that is done with thousands of physical lights with something that just makes it look like they are there? It SOUNDS just as hokey, cheesy, and cheap as saying they are going to remove Walt and Mickey's statue and replace it with a hologram.
If I went up to some random joe on the street who knows nothing about the potential prospects of projection systems and told them, "hey, disney is getting rid of the lights and just going to shine them on the castle with a projector." They'd probably think I was crazy. Maybe their mind harkens back to those projectors our teachers had to drag in every now and then.
So forgive me that even people like me, and oglet, who KNOW to some degree how modern and such today's projection systems can be, seeing the memories show, etc are still slightly skeptical. . . .I mean really, that's nice, but it's not THAT good. Not good enough to replace their current LED setup.
Now, yes, the reality is with systems they are creating now there are things they can do that they would never be able to replicate with a physical set up, but that takes testing, and tweaking,, which is what they are doing. And also why it is not going to be this year, and who knows for sure if it could be next. Because yes, the knee jerk reaction is like mine and oglets, so disney knows they need to have something amazing worked out before it goes public so that it can be viewed as the plus that it CAN be, and not look like a cheap cost saving manuever so they don't have to pay for lights to be installed, . Because yes, some people at Disney do still care about the "magic".
