Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

That's fascinating! We could open everything if these dogs could accurately detect the virus- and if we could afford them.

Theme parks, resorts, sporting events, schools- the students would love it if our school had a virus dog.
And Disney already has security cm trained to work with dogs so it'll be easier to implement

A mask doesn’t stop the other major point of access for the virus - the eyes. That’s why full medical PPE includes an eye shield.

The Disney parks or any park is not trying to achieve the same PPE as all day patient care in a Covid-19 hospital room. If a person sneezes directly on your face on on your hand within 6 feet of you and then you put your finger in your eye, nose, mouth, you have a chance of getting it, but then have 98% of having a mild case. yes that 2% is a lot of people but there are over 300 million people

If you can catch it easily as you describe then the death rate numbers drop way down and it is less dangerous than the flu. I don't think that is the case being less dangerous than the flu. Wash hands, wear mask if you are worried, practice social distancing. If you are high risk/underlying conditions probably shouldn't be going to the parks anytime some until better treatment is in place.

Universal is already saying their plan is maks will be recommended, not required. That is not official set in stone but that is where they are thinking the line will be, meaning Disney will most likely be the same.
Makes sense. Especially since as the weather gets hotter or wet people are going to pull masks off en masse...

From what I have read, it's not really spread that way.

What happens is people cough or sneeze and the droplet lands on something. Someone else then comes by and touches it. They then touch their face or their food or their drink or their eyes. Or an infected person who touched their nose or face then touch something. And then someone else touches it.

It's being spread by touch and people touching their face.

I can tell you probably every single time I have ever got sick, I can't remember a single time anyone coughed or sneezed on me. That's not how I got sick.
And I think the hand-washing campaign & telling ppl not to touch their faces has much more to do with why numbers are down than social distancing. Just my opinion.

Totally agree and data and studies are starting to show that. The masks are a very effective way to prevent people from touching their face too.

I'm aware the are required in a few places around the country. I am on team "masks won't be required" and it is ok if you are on team "yes they will be." We can each have our own opinions. :flower3:
I'm not on any team, actually. Just making sure people are aware that if Disney wants to enforce the masks, they absolutely can, and that it wouldn't be unexpected.

I’m interested in the potential legal issues with opening Disney to Floridians only. I think they could face a lot of backlash if they tried to do that. Now they are into the Civil Rights Act and the right of a business to refuse service to someone.

Can they legally refuse service to all citizens who are not residents of Florida? I know the Civil Rights Act doesn’t specifically say we are protected on the basis of our home state, but it also doesn’t specifically say we are protected based on our sexuality- but the courts have held that businesses generally can’t refuse service based on sexuality.

I am not sure they want to face potential lawsuits on that- even if they have a good chance of winning.

Surely they can come up with another way- from some of these rumored modifications, maybe it’s just making the experience so unattractive that very few will opt do it.

Yes, they can restrict it. It's not a discrimination issue. It's a public health issue.

The answer to the screening issue? I mean this would efficient and non invasive.

This came up several days ago somewhere else, and yes, I could easily see it being used. It would definitely be preferable to any form of swab. Before anyone says it, because someone always has one of those exception situations to argue about, people with a fear of dogs could opt to take the swab instead.

Not sure how often you visit wdw but enforcing is not one of wdw forte. In the beginning im sure most will comply but then one person will take it off and then the next and then the cm will try and enforce and get yelled at or worse.... entitled is a word that gets thrown out there a lot and from all my experience unfortunately some wdw guests are very entitled and don't think rules apply to them
Yes and that is mostly Disneys fault for their past failure to enforce rules.

This is more like a dog training company is looking for funding of $750K on an unproven concept. Don't get your hopes up on it. I mean the lady is asking for over a half of a million dollars to train 3-6 dogs for 5-8 weeks. Nice work if you can get it.
I never expect anything, this could be easily tested here but whomever for whatever amount of money, dogs have proven efficient in many areas from drugs to electronics to guns detection, so it's feasible

Not saying it is not possible, dogs are amazing, just it really doesn't pass the sniff test, pun intended ;)

Giving a lot of weight to the magical droplet and a virus that is easily destroyed with soap, with the roller coaster scenario.

Can't wash the inside of your nose out with soap :) But if wearing a mask, then it wouldn't go up your nose. But it could go on the parts of you not covered by your mask. So even if you wash your hands before touching your face, if your face got infected respiratory droplets on it and you touch your face...

Well, Florida is so dang bright nearly every day of the year that most people wear sunglasses...

This thing is so contagious that nurses wearing full protective gear who know how to take care of themselves are being infected. That says something. And that's why theme parks will have to make changes, and why I'm wondering about things like people screaming on roller coasters. I'm wondering about the Voices of Liberty and other singing groups too- that choir in Seattle I think it was, had a practice before covid-19 was known to be widespread and dozens of members came down with it. It's thought that singing is an excellent way to spread it as many droplets go out of your mouth when you sing. So even if you can social distance the audience, is it safe to have singing? I think Disney is probably looking at these type of things. What is too high risk to do and what is an acceptable risk? There is no way to open and not have risk, so it's a matter of balance. At what point do the new safety measure become so severe that it is not fun to visit, even as a local passholder?

Maybe the first few weeks they'll only allow one family/group take the Falcon for a spin at a time...that would be amazing from an experience perspective, though not a wait-time/access perspective. :D A person can dream right?

Louder for the people in the back
Lol
Anyways i was just talking to a friend that works at strollers and ecv at mk. I asked her how she would feel if she was required to wear a mask. She told me it would be a health hazard just because of how hot it gets in the stroller area and the place where they clean them. That cm faint during the summer time without it, it would be worse wearing them. Also to drink water they would have to remove them and then put them back on, then they would need to wash their hands each time, there are so many different layers to this it's mind numbing
Sounds like they need better working conditions to begin with.

They certainly CAN says masks are “required” (although I’m 99.9% sure they won’t), but it would be nearly impossible to enforce. Just like lots of their other rules, it would be more for show than anything else. What would they really do if you take the mask off? Kick you out? People would have to take them off to eat and drink anyways. They will likely encourage wearing them, but they won’t “require” it.

It would supremely annoy me if they say that masks are required...not because I wont ware a mask but because I know WDW wont enforce the rule and it would tick me off to no end to see all the no mask people walking by the CMs without them being told to put it on.

Asking people to wear masks also acknowledges a risk. I've experienced a similar issue with silica dust rulings in my industry.

If you read what Universal out out physical distancing will be a part of the parks as well as virtual queues. I can see mobile ordering and paying only with card the new normal. What's wrong with implementing those measures? I ask those of you that keep ruling out everything that is rumored to be implemented what do you think will be implemented?
