Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

ehhhhh... that can get sketchy too. So many different scenarios where someone might REQUIRE an ECV and can't physically use a wheelchair or have someone push them around.

Disney will find a way to have BOTH wheelchairs and ECV's.

The fact that a company provided or allowed something above and beyond their legal requirements at one time does not require that they continue to do so in the future.

There's another ADA lesson for the day:)...

We can agree to disagree. 8-)

You don't have to provide the accommodations someone "wants most", but one that lets them still do something, ESPECIALLY if you have a reason for not allowing the "most desired" thing...so they'll be just fine on the law with manual only...
That’s what the law says. That’s the reasoning behind it. And it should keep people from suing. But it won’t.

Disney’s Disability Access Service Card still allowed people to do things- and Disney had a good reason for moving to that system: rampant fraud on the part of guests.

Still, they faced a major lawsuit when they changed the system. I think they still face it. Wasn’t it filed five years ago and is still going on? That’s not cheap.

I am sure they have to consider what lawsuits might arise as a result of their modifications. Even frivolous lawsuits can be very expensive.

Character dining is good revenue for Disney, and I think this is one area where Disney may test some things and see how it turns out and adjust accordingly. They are not going to want kids running up to the characters. If they can test some type of 'characters enter, walk around, do a little show and exit' successfully, we may see the character dining still taking place.

If this was temporary, in the interim, I would understand this. But, I certainly would not want to see this become "the new normal."

Those character buffets are pricy. And, I just don't know a lot of people willing to pay that kind of money for the characters to come in and wave and walk through and that's it. Let's be honest....those buffets are worth $25-$30, $40 at best. The premium that they are charging is for the character interaction. So....if they keep the premium price, without the premium interaction....to me, that feels wrong. I understand why they'd have to do it. I think they should adjust the price accordingly. But, to keep the price and lower the experience just feels wrong to me.

Tusker House actually already does this....you get both the show AND the interaction. Tusker House is the one buffet I am most worried about.

Like I said, I completely get it as a temporary fix. I just hope it does go back to normal at some point, because that character interaction is what makes Disney, Disney.

Has anyone seen mention of only requiring/requesting using masks indoors as opposed to outdoors? I could see it being more important/easier to bear wearing while inside, but very difficult to wear outside for very long. Also I thought if it gets wet it loses effectiveness, which it certainly would from sweat if being worn outside in the summer. At least that's what I've heard, I'm definitely not an expert.

Walking around an air-conditioned hospital for 12 hours in a mask is bad enough. No way they require it in a theme park. It isn't even required at Walmart in most places.
It's a requirement in various counties and cities already. Plus, Walmart doesn't really have tight and enclosed spaces like a ride vehicle, etc. Just imagine the Space Mountain launch tubes...

Louder for the people in the back
Lol
Anyways i was just talking to a friend that works at strollers and ecv at mk. I asked her how she would feel if she was required to wear a mask. She told me it would be a health hazard just because of how hot it gets in the stroller area and the place where they clean them. That cm faint during the summer time without it, it would be worse wearing them. Also to drink water they would have to remove them and then put them back on, then they would need to wash their hands each time, there are so many different layers to this it's mind numbing

Never thought of the water bottle situation. I mean pretty much EVERY CM walks around with a water bottle.

Inside is more of a risk, but if an asymptomatic carrier without a mask coughs outside and you pass through that airspace quickly afterward...

There's also the issue of contamination. The outside of a mask is supposed to be considered contaminated. After you touch it, you are not supposed to touch your face or any of your belongings until you wash your hands. Conversely, if you've been touching public surfaces and then touch the outside of your mask before you clean your hands, you just got more germs onto the outside of your mask. How many people stop to think of this? And the inside shouldn't be touched at all until hands have been washed. I am very careful when I take my mask off at work- I fold it so the inside surface is together and stick in my jacket pocket after I punch out for lunch, then wash my hands. When I get in the car, I stick it into a plastic bag and sanitize my hands.

I am far from a paranoid person- I will be at WDW the day they reopen if my pass isn't blacked out and they announce it 3 weeks out so I can request off work- but I am a little concerned about the roller coasters. If masks are not required, and even if they are, people scream on coasters. The entire vehicle will move through those droplets before they can all fall to the ground. A mask won't stop all the droplets.

I was thinking about the mask situation and eating and stuff. But shockingly this never crossed my mind. We go through gallons of water a day at the parks in April never mind the summer months. And the cms all have those water bottles attached to their belt loops and have to stay hydrated. They would need at least what 10 masks per shift each. Wow didn’t even cross my mind this aspect.

Chances are that "normal" won't return until a vaccine is developed and distributed. That may be quite some time. So they will obviously need to reopen before then. And there will have to be changes.

Pretty encouraging news from The University of Oxford today.

Yeah, you could use one mask per shift, when you take it off just make sure nothing touches the inside of it, but each time you put it back on you have to wash your hands, wondering if along with the water bottle they'll have a hand sanitizing bottle

Maybe. I use the same mask (reusable ones) at work all day. I am touching stuff and touching the outside of the mask to pull it up or down throughout the day. It gets really stinkin hot and the a.c. is excellent- I can't imagine the poor outside c.m. having to wear one during the summer! I'll pull it down to expose my nose when I'm by myself in the back. Most of my co-workers pull their mask up and down throughout their shift too. I just don't touch my face, phone, open my locker, etc etc until I have cleaned my hands.

Disney would have to be able to help with pushing wheelchair like the time i was with my 2 grandsons ages 7 and 8 at the time. had to transfer to a chair at one ride when I said well guess these guys will have to push me in line, you should have seen how fast a CM was there to push me. and this was at a time when this was not supposed to happen. it was just the 3 of us at the time and an ECV was the only way for me
