Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I’m interested in the potential legal issues with opening Disney to Floridians only. I think they could face a lot of backlash if they tried to do that. Now they are into the Civil Rights Act and the right of a business to refuse service to someone.

Can they legally refuse service to all citizens who are not residents of Florida? I know the Civil Rights Act doesn’t specifically say we are protected on the basis of our home state, but it also doesn’t specifically say we are protected based on our sexuality- but the courts have held that businesses generally can’t refuse service based on sexuality.

I am not sure they want to face potential lawsuits on that- even if they have a good chance of winning.

Surely they can come up with another way- from some of these rumored modifications, maybe it’s just making the experience so unattractive that very few will opt do it.

I think children under a certain age would probably excluded from the mask thing. Cities around here have ordinances only for older kids.

a

I was thinking about the mask situation and eating and stuff. But shockingly this never crossed my mind. We go through gallons of water a day at the parks in April never mind the summer months. And the cms all have those water bottles attached to their belt loops and have to stay hydrated. They would need at least what 10 masks per shift each. Wow didn’t even cross my mind this aspect.

Isn't the mask policy geared towards trying to prevent someone who has Covid-19, but is asymptotic, from transmitting the virus to others? For example, if said infected person coughs or sneezes, the mask will help keep respiratory droplets containing the virus from getting into air and infecting someone else? Isn't that why the current CDC recommendation is that people can even simply cover their faces with a cloth bandana? If that is the case, then I'm not sure why the CM's would need to swap out their masks so frequently during the day.

As I understand it, and I could be wrong, unless it is an N95 mask, wearing a mask in public isn't so much about keeping you from contracting the virus, but more about trying to ensure that you don't spread it to someone else if you have it and don't know it.

It's a requirement in various counties and cities already. Plus, Walmart doesn't really have tight and enclosed spaces like a ride vehicle, etc. Just imagine the Space Mountain launch tubes...
I'm aware the are required in a few places around the country. I am on team "masks won't be required" and it is ok if you are on team "yes they will be." We can each have our own opinions. :flower3:

Has anyone seen mention of only requiring/requesting using masks indoors as opposed to outdoors? I could see it being more important/easier to bear wearing while inside, but very difficult to wear outside for very long. Also I thought if it gets wet it loses effectiveness, which it certainly would from sweat if being worn outside in the summer. At least that's what I've heard, I'm definitely not an expert.
Thats correct regarding them getting wet. Also, just touching them in general is a no-no.

We have a cloth mask ordinance in place in my county (to save surgical & N95s for first responders).

Weirdly enough, masks make my nose run. :-/

That's kind of why I've been paying more to have Instacart deliver groceries, so I don't get the ol' stank-eye for sniffing at Publix.

Also my iPhone doesn’t recognize me when I’m wearing my mask. Have to keep putting the code in every time to open my phone like some kind of Neanderthal.

Important to point out that Shanghai park is not fully owned by Disney, it's majority owned by a government subsidary. So those practices in Shanghai are not put in place by Disney.
Well yes and no, as majority of the operating company Disney operates the park 100% so they are implementing it but there are also in a socialist state

Correct and the guidance is it is only needed for times that you cant maintain 6 feet social distance.

Inside is more of a risk, but if an asymptomatic carrier without a mask coughs outside and you pass through that airspace quickly afterward...

There's also the issue of contamination. The outside of a mask is supposed to be considered contaminated. After you touch it, you are not supposed to touch your face or any of your belongings until you wash your hands. Conversely, if you've been touching public surfaces and then touch the outside of your mask before you clean your hands, you just got more germs onto the outside of your mask. How many people stop to think of this? And the inside shouldn't be touched at all until hands have been washed. I am very careful when I take my mask off at work- I fold it so the inside surface is together and stick in my jacket pocket after I punch out for lunch, then wash my hands. When I get in the car, I stick it into a plastic bag and sanitize my hands.

I am far from a paranoid person- I will be at WDW the day they reopen if my pass isn't blacked out and they announce it 3 weeks out so I can request off work- but I am a little concerned about the roller coasters. If masks are not required, and even if they are, people scream on coasters. The entire vehicle will move through those droplets before they can all fall to the ground. A mask won't stop all the droplets.

Giving a lot of weight to the magical droplet and a virus that is easily destroyed with soap, with the roller coaster scenario.

If this was temporary, in the interim, I would understand this. But, I certainly would not want to see this become "the new normal."

Those character buffets are pricy. And, I just don't know a lot of people willing to pay that kind of money for the characters to come in and wave and walk through and that's it. Let's be honest....those buffets are worth $25-$30, $40 at best. The premium that they are charging is for the character interaction. So....if they keep the premium price, without the premium interaction....to me, that feels wrong. I understand why they'd have to do it. I think they should adjust the price accordingly. But, to keep the price and lower the experience just feels wrong to me.

Tusker House actually already does this....you get both the show AND the interaction. Tusker House is the one buffet I am most worried about.

Like I said, I completely get it as a temporary fix. I just hope it does go back to normal at some point, because that character interaction is what makes Disney, Disney.
Crystal palace too. Most of them used to, but a lot of times they cut it out in the interest of time. I’m
Looking forward to being able to enjoy character dining more with less ppl hopefully. The last 2 times we did character dining it was ridiculous. Ppl take waaay too long with each interaction. Ohana was backed up last July for 3 hours. We didn’t stay to even meet the characters.

A mask doesn’t stop the other major point of access for the virus - the eyes. That’s why full medical PPE includes an eye shield.

Universal is already saying their plan is maks will be recommended, not required. That is not official set in stone but that is where they are thinking the line will be, meaning Disney will most likely be the same.
