Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

It may not matter what people want. Nobody wants to be stuck in their house right now either. Disney wants to reopen and something like a mark requirement may have to happen to open.
But like many have said that could be a deal breaker for many. Maybe locals won’t mind, but if I’m allowed to go to Disney, I’d probably able to go most anywhere by then so I’m not going to drop that kinda money & wear a mask.

Does anybody see Disney extending the date for postponing/canceling beyond the end of June? Our honeymoon is one of the most expensive trips that I have ever taken with Disney between WDW and the Cruise and with all of these rumored modifications, I’m not sure if it will be worth the $ at this time. It’s worth it for us to wait and see, but we go for entertainment/fireworks and the whole experience more than just rides and food. Hopefully things turn around and we have a better idea of what to expect soon. Hoping that everybody stays safe out there!

They can go and wear a mask if they want to, but I won’t. It is the dealbreaker for me. Hopefully they make enough money from people willing to do that.

I think that is a typo of parks closed to at least June 30. I think it was supposed to say May 30. If you click within article.

Looks like it might be awhile til Disney opens if thats the case. "It's likely that we're going to need some mass testing, at scale, and some form of contact tracing as well so that we can identify people who have been exposed or people who have had the virus and may be of harm to others." As said by Iger in the article.
Article says the parks will be closed to at least June 30. Did Disney announce they are remaining closed till then or is this just sloppy journalism and speculation?

A day spent at the park in a mask, sitting six feet apart, medical tests to even gain admission... no thanks. I go to Disney to escape the real world. I'd rather save my money for when things are more normal, maybe after a vaccine.

I'm a nurse and I know what this virus does and while I am just as bored as everyone else, I am ok waiting a little longer to reopen the parks.

Disney has not given a reopening date, universal Orlando has said the parks are closed through June 1st.
Many here believe WDW will reopen on June 1st because that's the first day you can make reservations but that could change.
I also don't believe WDW & DL will open on the same day, each state is in a different situation

Its not just the date that's the big thing in that article. Here is what Iger said in response to when people will think it's safe to return to the parks.

"It's likely that we're going to need some mass testing, at scale, and some form of contact tracing as well so that we can identify people who have been exposed or people who have had the virus and may be of harm to others"

To me he's not talking about hardcore Disers that will go regardless and make up a small percentage of people who go to Disney. He's talking about your average Joe who makes up most of the visitors to Disney in a year

I’m in NY so masks are already required here. It doesn’t bother me that much. In Disney is another story, but if I had to I’d wear one. It’s more scary than anything that our world has become wearing masks. However, no fireworks, temp checks and the masks adding up, I’m not so sure. Plus, since I’m from NY I don’t even know when we’d be allowed in.

I do wonder about locals only at first. While it would give WDW some good practice before opening fully, it would make them little money. No or low resort stays, low ticket sales since APs will be the ones to show up first. Is the goal to get back to generating profit right away, or just working to stay in business for the time being?
I would hope they are mainly thinking about how to get the parks opened safely. I'm sure they're losing money every day it stays closed. I don't think they are focusing on profit loss right now, although I'm sure it comes up in discussions. They have to be responsible first. It's the most crowded place I've ever been to. They have to figure out how to open safely in one of the most crowded places on Earth! We don't even know if they will be able to manage it, until or unless there are a variety of interventions in place.

That's why I don't think it's opening anytime soon. Especially after reading the article with Bob Iger mentioning mass testing before people will feel safe to return to the parks

They are losing money everyday and they could lose more money by being open. One thing i've wondered is, how many people have to enter the park on a given day to turn a profit? If it costs disney say $1,000,000 just to pay cast and buy supplies, they would need at least that coming to justify opening the doors. At some point there has to be a break even or justification to open the parks at a low crowd level. I cant see opening for 20-40,000 people worth it.

Agreed. Both Target and H Depot were busy yesterday. Weirdly no masked workers checking out.

Seems like the cashiers would be dropping like flies with nonstop close contact all day every day, yet I never hear a word about it.

Just business as usual. They did clean surfaces between each sale though.

But luckily across the street the furniture store was still closed to its usual 5 or so shoppers at a time.

So true, I didn't think of that. I suppose if they can't turn a profit with fewer numbers, they should focus on maintenance and other new projects right now. Why bother to open, it would make no sense profit wise.

I think extending past June will depend on how many new cases open up as things start opening. Not sure if Disney will have what it needs to open safely, even by the end of June. Sorry. Just my opinion.

If you read the article with the interview Bob Iger it sounds like it will be awhile before they open.

That’s exactly what he’s talking about, and Iger is right. One of the number one guidelines the federal government laid out, and the number one thing all health officials keep coming back to is exactly what Bob just said- widespread testing and contract tracing nation wide. That’s the main thing we need on a country wide level to open up. WHERE ARE THE TESTS? Iger is on the California Governor’s committee for reopening California, so hopefully his voice is heard.

The way things stand now, you are not wrong. Without widespread mass testing and contact tracing, opening Disney safely is a pipe dream.
