Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

We're missing a big part of the issue. Disney has to make sure CMs don't infect other CMs and guests. An infected guest may have contact with hundreds of other guests. An infected CM thousands of guests.

There are holes with every possible check. Checking temperatures will catch some infected people, but miss many. Face masks, even if just by CMs will reduce transmissions. "Overkill" promotion of hand sanitizers will reduce transmissions. Eliminating the number crowds staying in one place for an extended period of time, parades, fireworks etc., will reduce infections. Hopefully the combined effect of multiple actions will reduce infections to the level which will permit opening.

This. So many people seemed to think they'd do a temperature check, maybe a capacity reduction and that would be it. It's going to need to be a heavily multi-faceted approach for Disney to be able to open. I think the news coming out the last few days has really given some people a jolt into the reality of the situation.

To be fair, you're local. You don't have to book flights and resort. You can go and if you don't like what you see you can go home. Not sure how many will gamble with thousands.

This. I can see there being plenty of locals and APs that will go. People that can easily drive there, and just perhaps do a weekend. I do not see people spending thousands of dollars on flights, several nights of hotels etc... for a severely diminished experience. And I definitely can't see international travellers doing it - assuming international travel is even allowed this year, which I highly doubt.

I know not Disney but Wynn just released their re-opening plan and it includes wearing masks with a roll out early May. I’m not a Vegas fan at all, but I think someone made a parallel to it earlier (though could have been a different post all together). I’ve been reading a lot of places. ;)

For those close enough to do a day trip if you would otherwise go, would you be willing to book an on site room if that was required in addition to a ticket to enter the parks
I thought about this. I live 15 minutes away from AK so definitely would not need a room BUT if it's required I would probably book a night, no more than $150 a night just because I miss it so much and I'm very curious to see how they will operate. Plus don't want to miss the photo opp with the frame that says COVID19 :rolleyes1:teeth:

I visited one year at Superbowl. Since I am not a sports viewing fan so we went to the parks. I am guessing about 30% of typical,it was fun and a little surreal, with almost everything walk on. It only lasted for a couple of hours. CMs and characters were extra chatty which was neat.

I’m in NY so masks are already required here. It doesn’t bother me that much. In Disney is another story, but if I had to I’d wear one. It’s more scary than anything that our world has become wearing masks. However, no fireworks, temp checks and the masks adding up, I’m not so sure. Plus, since I’m from NY I don’t even know when we’d be allowed in.
I am from NY as well. Not even close to NYC. If Disney opened and there were still restrictions, I may consider driving. I would be out of Buffalo- not even close to NYC. If they are really that worried still about NYC, then they should not do all of NY and maybe those from JFK. Although, I don't believe that is fair either. I have done my job, stayed in my house, social distanced, and wore a mask everywhere. Please don't tell me that I am not allowed in.

EDIT: Sorry- didn't mean to get grumpy. I feel for the previous poster. Sometimes it feels that some people feel like anyone from NY has cooties.

not to mention the specialty cupcake decorated to look like it is wearing a mask

I feel the same way. We will see what happens. Part of the issue is the airport. I drove once, and I won’t do it again.

Testing before flights/ after landing/ before entering the parks is not only impractical but inefficient.
Think of everyone and all the surfaces you encounter after these potential testings. What about people who drive into Florida, or live in Florida and drive to the parks or locals who visit often, not to mention all the cm who leave work and then go somewhere else.
Ive mentioned this is other threads, I'm currently working for Florida health department at oia to have passengers coming from hot spots fill out a questionnaire and remind them they need to self isolate for 14 days. We are trusting all these people actually do that, but how many will go grocery shopping or stop to pick up food at a restaurant, put gas...
It boils down to personal responsibility, Disney, the government, wil not take care of you, you have to take care of yourself and your family
This is interesting. So in your work experience, are the hot spots identified by state? By region? By zip code?

Do you anticipate they will still be doing this self quarantine request in June and July?

I thought I read that they were only doing this for people arriving by air and not by car. Is that correct? Are they doing anything for those arriving by car?

If this self quarantine request were going on this summer, do you think it would significantly limit those in hot spots from coming, or do you think those people would just ignore the request since it is not actually being enforced?

Sorry for all the questions! It’s just a very interesting situation.

If I was at the point of being ready to go to WDW, having to drive 14 hours would not be a barrier for me, if I was further away say 20+ hours I might think differently.

I can understand your frustration. Just letting you know we're check flights from all NY airports right now, make sure to check Florida requirements before you book or get into your car

Drop dead date for Disney opening something that uses their furloughed employees (so they don't permanently lose them) is Aug 1. Since the extra $600 lasts til July 31, Disney can wait and reopen on a small scale til then...but I'd expect they'd reopen something big where they can pull in their employees by Aug 1, so they don't lose them to competitors down the street.

I still think it's AK/MK (in whichever order) and the other 2 parks may stay shut for the summer (since with no college or international, I expect they don't have about 1/3-1/2 their normal staff, so the easiest and cheapest thing to do is to keep something shut)...

The situation is very fluid right now, we don't have an end to our contract and the nurses contracts just got extended to end of May. Right now we're monitoring everyone coming from flights from NY, NJ, LA and CT. Im expecting some more states to be added if they become hot spots.
Im not sure how the situation is on the border but I think they're being asked to self isolate as well
As far as what people will do, it's really impossible to know, I do know people are being contacted through out the 14 days by the Florida department of health to check on any symptoms

They totally could limit the park off to hotel guests only initially. Have them test at check in. Then they get a cleared signal on their magic band or a special bracelet like the after hours party for their trip.
Totally Extreme but doable. Staff would be the wildcard in this case they could not control.

What about Newark?

Yeah but guests will be able to go to DS or off property, where they will be exposed and potentially contract the virus. Testing can help obviously, i just don't see Disney testing everyday, guests being tested everyday is not only an inconvenience but expensive

By air, it is based on where the flight originates. It includes all flights from NY, NJ, LA, CT.

By car, they have checkpoints set up in the highway (I can just imagine the delays this will cause):
"Drivers and their passengers coming from Louisiana, New York, New Jersey or Connecticut will be required to fill out a “traveler form” at the checkpoint that includes their contact information and the details of their trip. They will also be required to stay isolated for the first 14 days they are in the state. If their visit is shorter than that, they have to stay isolated the entire time, according to a DOT news release."

Some testing is better than no testing. If they can stop one person who tested positive, it can save up the up to 50+ people they'll come in contact with.
