Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

Ok, I’m sure it’s here somewhere, but I just went back 25 pages and didn’t see it. What will be the provision for someone who has a health condition that makes wearing a mask impossible? Will documentation from doctor be acceptable or will you just not be allowed to enter the parks?
They haven't made a statement on that.

With rumored modifications to buffets and character dining, would you cancel altogether? I’m okay with the ambiance of some of the spots and I worry that they will be all the more difficult to book later this year and next year.
Personally, we're hanging on to our July reservation and will go even if there are reduced experiences. But, we go to WDW quite frequently so for us it's not a big deal to miss out on some things. I think if you don't go very much or it's a "once in a lifetime" type of trip and those experienced will be missed, then I'd reschedule for a later date when there's a better chance of the parks being more normal.

ETA: I just realized -- do you mean cancel character buffets or cancel the trip altogether? :D

There’s always going to be someone who thinks they’re the exception. This is why we have to have rules in place and not rely on people to do the right thing.

I hope fever checks stick around long past this pandemic and prevent people who are “totally fine” just running a fever from entering.

I have a few buffets booked, but I'm waiting until I hear more details.

I mean Golden Corral isn't doing buffets at their locations as they reopen, so I imagine buffet character meals (which I think between DLR and WDW are most of them?) will at least need to be heavily modified - which will mean added cost. And some of those character meals (CRT for example) are really tight to begin with so they'll have to move a lot of tables out to get real social distancing. You might get an extra minute with Cinderella though.

More likely, the face character meals just won't happen for a while. In Shanghai, they're socially isolating the face characters so that they don't have to wear masks. But a character meal with the character waving and shouting from a balcony just doesn't have that same magic, does it?

Something like Garden Grille might be a little easier to continue to execute.

My thoughts exactly. I’ve never been to GG, so that may be a nice alternative

Personally I'm not cancelling anything based on rumors. But, I have the ability to see how things develop for now as my trip isn't until mid/late June.

Disney isn't going to pay for tens of thousands of COVID tests a day :rotfl2:
Who said Disney should pay for it ?!

Also I don`t think tens of thousands of people temperature will be high enough daily to get to send home. If that`s the case it`s really not worth to open WDW .... `cause the infection rate would be still very high....

If I was given the chance to pay for an excepted and validated quick test ( it does exist ) I`d pay for it rather than sit in my room...

As long as they're able to do it passively, I'm all for this.

So, one thing I haven't seen discussed much (although I did just skip ahead 30 pages since I didn't keep up for a couple days) is potential policy changes for guests who show symptoms or test positive for Covid. Personally, I really hope this is something that Disney will address. I know there has been (somewhat sarcastic) speculation and hand-wringing on what Disney will do as to not letting someone into the park or removing them from the park due to symptoms, etc. I'm thinking along the lines of what will happen to resort guests who show symptoms or test positive? At that point, they're kind of screwed. I mean, what happens if I come down with it during my trip? I'm then required to isolate for 14 days - but where and how? I'm not going to be allowed to fly home at that point, so that's out as a possibility. Will Disney extend my stay? At what cost? What about food, etc.? What about the rest of the family? Would they be forced to stay with me in the hotel room, or would they move me (or them) to a different room? I can't imagine how difficult it would be forcing the kids to not leave a hotel room for 14 days, but what kind of policy will Disney have to accommodate this? If I pick up Covid while I'm there, I'm going to also be pissed to pay $500+/night to have to extend my stay by up to 14 days (not sure I could even afford that). Now, I guess the reason to not lay this policy out would be to deter someone who's exposed from going to Disney before testing positive or before being symptomatic just to "take advantage" of whatever policy is in place - but I just don't see what the attraction of doing that would be. I'd much rather be in my own home. I could also seeing it being a case-by-case thing, but I hope they are at least able to assure us that we don't need to be terrified of the implications of such a possibility. It's going to be inevitable that someone will come down with Covid-19 while on property.

Disney is not testing for COVID, they are assuming everyone has COVID. They are only doing temperature checks. If you have a fever higher than 100.3, you will be taken to a different area to retake the temperature. If you still have a fever, you and your party will not be allowed in. You return back to your hotel following the safety and health procedures set by Disney, including capacity limits, distancing, wearing your mandatory face covering, etc. Will they be potentially riding with others on a resort bus? Sure! That is the risk that we acknowledge we are taking when we go to WDW during a pandemic. We have to assume everyone around us has COVID.

If you are sick and cannot travel, you will need to arrange for your own room (at your hotel or somewhere else) and pay for it yourself. If you have insurance, you may be able to submit for reimbursement, depending on what the policy says about coverage when you get sick on a trip (usually covered, even during a pandemic).

I would think those of us that are driving would have a much easier time getting home than those flying.

Unless they end up with multiple rooms in a building with cases I do not see them quarantining a whole resort building. We've had cruise ship outbreaks but not hotel outbreaks so there is no grounds for that at this time.
They won't be quarantining unless there is a huge outbreak. There were huge outbreaks in resorts when COVID started spreading and before health and safety measures were put in place. The resort in Tenerife is an example of a quick spread and a resort quarantine situation. This is why there will be capacity, distancing and sanitation measures in place, along with requiring face covering. They will not be policing COVID in their guests.

I am curious to see what happens when someone has a temp check and is told they can't enter. What if someone has a temp above 100.4 for another reason? It could be a bacterial infection (ear infection, UTI, etc), heat exhaustion, rheumatiod arthritis, and the list goes on. It doesn't mean the guest is contagious or has covid. Are they going to be required to disclose their condition to Guest Services to try and get a waiver of some sort? Will they need a doctor's note? It really opens a can of worms.
Nope, Disney does not care if you have COVID or a UTI. If you have a fever you cannot come in. They will not look at your doctor's notes, nor will they make an exception.

It's table service and the tables are all booths so you could pretty easily just do every other for social distancing. It's also open to Living with the Land which adds additional air circulation. Plus its all characters in costumes, so they can wear masks underneath.

We really liked it. Food was good too (we went for dinner).

Not letting them in on the spot that`s fair and warranted. But they can be tested for COVID maybe? If the test comes back negative they should be allowed in. In my opinion.

What if they have the flu? This would catch them too. Do you want them spreading a virus?

I think, it’s fair.

With a trip that probably will already be canceled forcibly (June 16-20), I am already resigned to just cancelling it even IF opened.

This early on, It just won't be worth the cost for the reduced value we (my family personally) will get from changes to buffets and/or character dining. Since those meals are an extra cost (we don't get dining plan), we could go and just not do those type of meals, but they have been some or the more fun and memorable experiences (with our young children), so I don't want to go until those are back.

Any other reduced experiences (no M&Gs, closed attractions, no transportation, required masks (in the summer)), just make it not worth going at the price I was planning on paying. If I was local, or wanted to go without kids, I may think about it. But with kids? Nah. Just wait until things are "normal" and the experiences we like will be open without major restrictions.

For example, if I was local, I'd probably (by myself or just with my wife) check out Disney Springs the first week .. more out of curiosity and to get a taste of Disney, but if I feel the restrictions are too slow and inconvenient, I wouldn't go back until things are more normal.

That is even more true with packing the family in a van or plane and travelling to Florida for a week vacation. Unless Disney throws me a huge discount or bounceback promo to come during this "reduced" time (which I wouldn't expect them to do), it just won't be worth the money spent (for me). So, as much as I need and want a normal Disney vacation, I just still can't have it until months from now.

No spreading the flu would be bad too. But I don`t remember ever that people were tested for flue before entering the park. Also I don`t remember people get tested ever for any contagious disease either.

I have a feeling some people just like to be offensive not argumentative and just jump on anything.

If someone has a fever more like doesn`t have COVID and has something else (at least for now). Why would be such a bad idea to give those people the chance to pay for a test themselves and "prove" they don`t have COVID?!

I think GG and the other family style character meals will be the way to go. We typically like a character BF but I have a CP and a GG and will wait and see what changes are made.

I'm not sure if you're serious or joking... on the off chance you actually think Disney would force people to buy a COVID test every time they go to enter a Disney park- :rotfl2:

Of course not!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Have you read my original post/answer?

I said If someone temperature is high and they denied entry THOSE people should be given the chance to prove they doesn`t have COVID. I would gladly pay for a test IN CASE MY TEMPERATURE is too high to prove I don`t have the virus.

If a temperature reading shows a fever and it turns out they have some other virus or flu then the screening is just an extra win for Disney and their guests. No one wants people transmitting any diseases at Disney.

How would that conversation go? Look at my test results, I only have the flu. COVID-19 came in negative. Can I go into the park now? Of course, COVID-19 only presents with a fever a third of the time, and the test for it isn’t great.

I don’t see why Disney should be testing people for COVID-19. It’s a real burden.

I think, it’s a good thing keeping sick people out of the parks.
