Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

I agree.... if you don’t feel safe flying, how on earth would you feel safe at WDW????

I feel exactly that way- not comfortable flying, would feel relatively safe at WDW depending on their policy changes. I'm on a plane for several hours- a very confined space with recirculated air, crammed right next to someone. With new spacing requirements and more focus on sanitation, I might feel better about it, but flying has always been like sitting in a petri dish to me, now even more so. Luckily we had already planned on driving so it's not a bridge I have to cross right now.

Curious how they will handle the 50% capacity, 75% capacity restriction. I know when they reach 100% capacity they guarantee your pre-purchased tickets admission to -a- park. I'd be willing and comfortable telling them today which parks I want to visit on which days. Seems like they should "reserve" your park admission that way, then allow you to switch day-of if there is room, including park-hopping. I don't know if I have a good feel for just how crowded 50% and 75% is or if it will even come into play though. I doubt anyone does.

Jet Blue announced mandatory masks for all yesterday if that matters. Fairly confident the other airlines will follow suit shortly.

💯 agree.
No one in state government wants this on their plate.... if they keep them closed, they keep thousands out of work. If they dictate the opening and it goes sideways, it’s their fault. Much easier for them to put it on universal and Disney.

I dunno... maybe Disney really is the best judge of how and when to open safely.
Yup. I mean, you have to think Disney knows their brand is on the line here -- so they're likely to take a path that will help them to maintain their reputation. Personally, I don't trust that corporations are always going to make a choice that is best for the health and safety of the consumer but based on Disney's family-friendly brand, I have some confidence in them to take our safety and that of their workers into account when deciding what the path is forward.

We fall under this situation. I can work form home now and my wife is a teacher. So our income hasnt changed, but we are most certainly netting more now that we avoid trips to Target and everywhere else. Then add in $3,400 from the stimulus and we are looking at upgrading our trip some for Sept.

I know we are "lucky" in this situation and i dont mean to say it to boast. But to show a situation that is/can happen.
Ya .. we are in the same position .. we are lucky and hoping to use that $3400 stimulus (that wasn't needed) to help boost the economy back up when the time is right.

Just have to be careful. Inflation is around the corner though. Giving everyone in the country a free $1200 just means goods and services will rise (since everyone has more "disposable" income). Not to mention the shift in demand for a lot of products and food will raise the price of things at the grocery store (already seeing that).

Doubtful that $1200 is a "fun money" surplus for everyone.

A company is ALWAYS the best judge on how to do business. Not a bureaucrat. Disney isn't just going to open it up like it was in March because they know that their guests will feel unsafe and that will hurt their product.

At the same time, there are some restrictions that some politician may "feel" is the right thing for all businesses to do that just won't make sense for Disney itself. Like .. for example .. face masks for castmembers. A LOT of us will want to go to Disney to "get away" from this situation (whether we can realistically or not is another matter). But being forced to wear masks or even just seeing EVERY cast member wearing masks won't feel like a magical getaway, but like you are going into a hospital. That may be a product Disney won't want to "sell". Disney has to weigh that with the safety of their employees (and guests).

I'm not saying Disney shouldn't require masks .. I am just saying they should be the ones that make that decisions for their OWN business.

Exactly. The stimulus is probably going towards rent, mortgage payments and other bills for a lot of people. The stimulus payment is a stop-gap for people that are now unemployed or getting reduced hours or reduced pay. They're getting this money in place of what they would have normally. Many here are fortunate because big-time Disney fans that can visit more than once in their lifetime are middle class, and less likely to be affected. It's not like everyone just has that $1200 sitting around in their savings account waiting to spend it when the country re-opens.

That wasn't my point.
When EVERYONE gets $1200 (no matter what you spend it on) .. that decreases the value of the dollar and thus that dollar BUYS less ---> Inflation.

So I am saying that those that can may just want to squirrel away that money for when prices DO go up for lots of common things (months, a year) down the line.

I really don't think the park capacity limitation is going to be an issue. I don't see the parks approaching anywhere near 50% capacity when they reopen.

It really doesn’t for me. They’d have social distance for me to think about it and I don’t think that’s happening. Masks aren’t all that effective when someone is inches from you.

Anyone have any thoughts about HDDR? We have a reservation for August 8 and we actually got tier 1 seats (lol). The performers can't wear masks and the guests are eating so....

Jet Blue has stated small children will be exempt, as will those who cannot wear them for medical/disability issues.

I talked to my friend yesterday- she and her husband are doctors working in hospitals with covid patients. I asked her about the masks. She said they are only helpful if literally everyone single person wears them. And although she agrees they aren’t good or easy for small children, she said they’re the ones who are often asymptomatic and should actually be wearing them from a standpoint of preventing the spread.

Obviously this is just two opinions, although medical opinions. I’m sure other doctors would have different opinions!

I agree with these thoughts. However, I also have a special needs child that does not have the mental capacity to understand wearing a mask, nor would he keep one on if I tried to enforce it. So ultimately it kind of defeats the purpose of Jet Blue “requiring” them, since there will be children and those who seek a medical dispensation not wearing them.

Agree... the masks are kind of all or not worth it from what medical professionals have told me.

Sorry. Off topic!

Encouraging signs anyway. I live in the UK and am due to fly to Orlando 19th Aug this year.

I still think there are far too many things that will not allow me to go. I do not think that flights will be running from UK to US and booked with Virgin Holidays as a package so it's not looking good.

Fingers crossed though that everyone in the states stays safe and is able to go soon!
