Rumor about “modified experiences” when Disney reopens (read 1st post for potential modifications being considered)

My husband still wants to fly. He said if we aren't comfortable flying then what is the point of saying we are comfortable being in Disney.

He also hates the drive with a passion, though. :)

I want to fly because it's only 90 minutes and I think the resort parking fee is robbery.
We are the same, and will wear a mask just as a precaution. If I'm not comfortable flying I will never be comfortable at a theme park (or anywhere). It's about an hour flight for us, sometimes slightly over, and I'd rather do that than 8 hours in the car having to make numerous stops for gas, food, and restrooms. Just as likely to get it at a rest stop or gas station bathroom on the drive down as I am at the airport or on a plane, maybe more so since the airport and plane are probably being cleaned better right now.

Yep. It's because people are sceptical about air travel that I'd prefer it. Airports and airlines know they have to make efforts. It's the places that fly under the radar that I'd be concerned about right now.

I still think many folks that use to fly will still choose to drive to WDW. Why take multiple chances to get the virus (airport - plane - airport - WDW) if you can just pack up and drive down and go straight to WDW?
We booked flights recently to WDW on Southwest for August. Obviously there's uncertainty, but we figured we can always change them with no penalty.

However, my wife mentioned driving last week, and I'm starting to think seriously about that instead (always have joked that I'd consider it, but before all of this, she always said no chance). It's a 14 hour drive without stopping, and our kids will be 6 & 8 in August, so that's a tough one. I also wonder though whether it's just better than risking the close quarters of a flight at this point and all that goes with it. There's also no way we're getting our kids to keep masks on.

I'll admit when I came to TN in March I decided to drive instead of fly. Just because with so many things in the air it felt safer at the time. But in the long run that's not a viable option for me. I can only do about 6 hours a day in the car before I exhaust myself. So from Denver that's a 4-5 day trip, one way.

Admittedly my decision to drive vs fly was also because things felt a lot scarier in mid March. And I also didn't have access to a mask at the time which didn't help. I'll have one when I fly in June so I'm feeling a tad less nervous about the flight back to Denver and then to CA for doctors.

I also think that, aside from maybe the first few days they're back open, they won't even get to 50% (JMO though). With so many people out of work and scared to travel I don't see a ton of people going "hey, lets make a last minute trip to WDW". There is so much room availability at the moment for most of the summer, and if the rumor is correct that they will limit it to onsite guests and maybe local APs I really think we'll see a large reduction in crowd levels at least for a little while. Of course people could jump and book a trip because they've just been waiting until Disney announces they're opening, but we'll have to see.

I could see it going both ways - I also know a lot of people that feel really pent up and just dying to go on a vacation. I know a lot of people are out of work (or worried about economics) but other people have have seeing their net position increase as they are spending a lot less what home but still making the same income

We've thought about this, too, although with driving you will have to stop many times along the way for bathroom breaks and food, with potential exposure. So I'm not really sure which way would be best.

A few weeks ago I cancelled our flights for our Jun 13-29 trip we have booked. Partly because the flight times had changed so much that we had long layovers. We still plan on going on the 13th if the parks are open. At this point we are still planning on flying, but we will make sure we book direct flights so we don't have to make any unnecessary stops.

Yeah... Still have an Aulani trip booked, but our direct flights turned into double layovers and missed connections. Best case scenario I have to stay in CA two nights (one there, one returning) to catch a morning flight. 🙄

We fall under this situation. I can work form home now and my wife is a teacher. So our income hasnt changed, but we are most certainly netting more now that we avoid trips to Target and everywhere else. Then add in $3,400 from the stimulus and we are looking at upgrading our trip some for Sept.

I know we are "lucky" in this situation and i dont mean to say it to boast. But to show a situation that is/can happen.

Yes. There are others like you. We are still working from home and also got 3400. We are committed to spending a large portion of our stimulus check locally, but If we can go this summer as planned, we have discussed possibly upgrading for at least part of our stay to the Poly, something we wouldn't have considered otherwise.

I agree.... if you don’t feel safe flying, how on earth would you feel safe at WDW????

We have reservations at the end of June and have decided we'll drive the 18 hours rather than fly as a way to reduce risk. Plus, 'we've been at home so much over the last few months, a road trip sounds awesome.

Also, I've seen a couple of people ask about single rider lines. I remember reading in some info that was released last week that theme parks would be encouraged to do away with single rider lines for now.

I was just reading this a bit ago. I don't know what to make of it. My cynical mind says that they want the theme parks to take responsibility if this goes bad.

💯 agree.
No one in state government wants this on their plate.... if they keep them closed, they keep thousands out of work. If they dictate the opening and it goes sideways, it’s their fault. Much easier for them to put it on universal and Disney.

I dunno... maybe Disney really is the best judge of how and when to open safely.
