Rumor a Disney hotel is replacing Circus Circus in Las Vegas

I can imagine a LOT of places where Disney might put a non-Park DVC resort. Las Vegas is close to the bottom of the list. Then again, I thought ESPN would never directly endorse gambling within the brand, and we see how that turned out.

Now, if you want to stay in Las Vegas, I'm pretty sure you can get some very inexpensive Getaways through Interval for cash. For example, Marriott Grand Chateau, just off the Strip between Hard Rock and MGM Grand, for late spring is about $900 for a week in a 1BR. That's between 1/3 and 1/4 what it would cost to book via Marriott, but it is non-refundable.

Been to Vegas many time and have my favorite places to stay, more just curious if people thought this rumor could be true. I find it hard to believe. Years ago when Vegas tried to become more family oriented, maybe I could have seen it then. I just do not see it now.

At this point, with a sale looming for such an icon in Vegas, this is just a blatant reminder that Las Vegas is what I call a “rated R city” where well over 90% of the attractions are suited towards a purely adult audience and not suitable for families with children. This is irrespective of what time of day it is as well. Most of the attractions are either gambling/betting related or themed to the point where it is inappropriate for ANYONE under 18. Even if there is a section for the said age group, chances are they will get riled out and tired easily.

If you are looking for family entertainment then Las Vegas is not a good option and you should keep looking elsewhere, whether that’s your local area or another city. That’s just the way things are.

This could be interesting. Absolutely there are plenty of rated R things to do in Las Vegas, but there are many other things that aren't rated R too. Heck, many years ago, my DW and I first met each other at a Star Trek convention in Vegas.

I could see some logic to setting up an ESPN themed resort & casino in Vegas. I'm not sure if we'll ever get to see what sports book Mickey will look like, but within the greater umbrella of WDC, yeah, there might be room for a Disney owned hotel or timeshare in Vegas. There is no shortage of other hotels & timeshares. If one were to exist, maybe we'd visit sometime, but in general, we'll use our DVC points at WDW & DLR, and our Hilton Grand Vacation points in Vegas and other places.

I went to Circus Circus about a year ago and it was sketchy as hell. Adventuredome was still kept up nicely though.

I heard people will stand out front and snap pictures of characters on their hand and then force you to take one.

Circus Circus is absolutely run-down, but rumors are that it's one of the most profitable resorts on the Strip. So I could see Disney's interest. And, while the previous marketing tactic of Vegas to families ultimately failed, there are still TONS of families with kids that vacation in Vegas. I am also doubtful that this would happen, but never say never...

If it is true, and I seriously doubt it is, it would have a DVC component, but be a cash/DVC blended resort, like most of the resorts at WDW.

Are you sure about that?

They have lobbied against gambling in Florida, but that strikes me as awfully self-serving.
The biggest problem with a DVC hotel in Vegas is that Vegas is the second-most timeshare saturated city in the country (behind only Orlando). Outlaying capital to build or convert a new timeshare building there makes zero financial sense.

I would much rather them expand internationally at “their” properties before doing anything else in the US that was connected to DLR or WDW. But like others have said I would be shocked if they did this, Vegas is about as far from Disney as you can get, but then again, maybe thats what they would be looking for?

For example, the Marriott's Grand Chateau, has only 3 of the 4 wings built because they aren't confident in demand to finish the build.
