Rule of 4? First timer confusion

Hi.. i just got an offer approved for a resale deal at Polynesian (yeyyy) ...My deal includes Dec as UY, and 2019 points, so could you please confirm if my understanding is correct:
1. The 2019 points: I can use them between dec 2019 and dec 2020, right?
2. Or I could bank them before aug 2020, and then use them after december 2020 jointly with the 2020 points, but will have to use them before december 2021, right? 3. For me the rule of 4 means that i can't use them between august 2020 and december 2020.. right?.. unless i book the travel before august.. right?

Dvc first timer so i would appreciate a lot please the orientation!

Mostly yes except the Rule of 4.

Dec 2019 points can be used for trips that are anytime from Dec 1, 2019-Nov 30, 2020. The 2019 points can be banked by July 31st and then would be valid to be used for stays from Dec 1, 2020-Nov 30, 2021 which is the same time that the Dec 2020 points would be valid for.
The rule of 4 only applies outside of DVC resorts so if you plan to use them for DVC resorts then just forget all about it.

If you were to trade and use points at any of the WDW hotels for example (very expensive use of points) then it means that you'd have to do the actual booking of the reservation before July 31st but could travel during any time of the year. The Disneyland resorts are exempt from the rule of 4 and as I mentioned it does not apply to any of the DVC resorts. You can book a DVC resort right up until the last day of your UY and stay there that night as long as there were availability.

If they were banked I think you mean use them after November 30th 2020 not before.

Also, the Rule of 4 is completely irrelevant to resale.

Spend some time with this thread for more info on booking, banking, borrowing and point expiration:
Understanding Use Year

December 2019 use year points are valid to pay for vacations between 12/1/2019 and 11/30/2020 (including the night of 12/1/2019 and the night of 11/30/2020). If you bank them, you can then use them for vacations between 12/1/2020 and 11/30/2021.

You can reserve any DVC resort at any time subject to the booking rules and availability. As already posted above, the rule of 4 does not apply to booking DVC resorts.

I have a Dec. use year and it took me a long time to wrap my head around when my points could be used - probably because most of the ‘use year’ falls in the following calendar year, I just write it out when I’m figuring out how many points I have for which vacation:
2019 use year: can use for vacations 12/1/2019 - 11/30/2020 + banked 2018 points + borrowed 2020 points
2020 use year: can use for vacations 12/1/2020 - 11/30/2021 + banked 2019 points + borrowed 2021 points
2021 use year: can use for vacations 12/1/2021 - 11/30/2022 + banked 2020 points + borrowed 2022 points

Easiest way for me, especially with a Dec UY, is to worry only about the UY of the trip.

Any trip can be paid for with banked points from the UY prior to the trip, current UY points of the trip, and borrow points from the UY after the trip to complete the reservation,

You can begin booking 11 months before the date of trip at your home resort, and 7 months at all other L14...resale points won’t be good at RIV.

For example, if you want to travel in Jan, 2021...it’s in your Dec 2020, so you can pay for it with banked 2019, 2020, and borrowed 2021 points to finish it up. You could call and book this starting Feb 2020 at your home resort,

You can rent anytime that you can make a reservation for yourself. Unless you are doing a transfer, you really don't "rent points". You rent a reservation made with your points.

That was just illustrating that the rule of 4 does not apply to any DVC resort. ie you are allowed to both do the actual booking and stay on the last night of your UY. You could not do that if you were trading into a WDW hotel which is the Rule of 4 - that you must do the booking of the trade out to a hotel at least 4 months before the end of your UY.

Or - back to my other comment. If you're using your points to stay at a DVC location just forget the Rule of 4.
