Rude Behavior At Disney

Well, she was obviously more important than you!
(in her mind, anyway)

Most people do feel they are more important than everyone else....I hate that! It's not just in Disney either! I would love to have a job where I just go around pointing out rude things to people when they do them. Maybe we should all make sure we speak up when something happens....Lets educate the world!!:thumbsup2

All right everyone. I know this is thread about being rude at Disney, but let's try to keep from being rude to each other here.

Arguing on threads is against DIS guidelines. Please post with kindness and consideration towards your fellow posters.

I've been really lucky and only had one bad experience at Disney over many trips

In December 07, we were waiting for the show to begin in front of Cinderella's castle. Crowds were low that day and my son, who was five years old at the time and seeing the show for the first time, was standing next to the Walt and Mickey statue. Next to us, there was an older woman in an ECV and a couple of her travel companions. All of the sudden, a woman of about 55 and her very slick looking husband/boyfriend come by and shout for everyone to get out of the way, including my son and the woman in the EVC. My son moved right away, but the lady in the EVC was obviously not used to using one and couldn't get it to move and the guy just went nuts shouting "We're trying to get this for a Christmas picture." I finally said "Hey you don't yell at people in wheelchairs and little kids!" And he said "Oh, now I'm the bad person." Um, yes, you are. The lady got out of his way and he kept complaining and saying all this strange stuff but he was eventually embarassed and left.

It was odd, to say the least.

First, I just wanted to thank the OP for putting this thread up. Sometimes I don't think people realize that behaviors they're engaging in are less than considerate of others (of course, more often than not, I'm inclined to believe that they do and just don't care :rolleyes2 ). Plus I think it's nice to be able to have a place to vent. I post regularly on another Disney message board as well, and one whiff of controversy, and a thread gets shut down. So :thumbsup2 to the Mods for allowing everyone to get these things off their chests and :cheer2: for (almost) everyone for being able to do so without resorting to the same *ahem* rude behaviors that we're all complaining about!

And now, my complaints! The first is one that hasn't yet been mentioned here - The people who act like the world is coming to an end if a ride breaks down while they're waiting in line. We were in the room before the preshow at RnRc when it broke down. The CM announced on the microphone that they were experiencing technical difficulties, but the ride would start shortly. My friend, husband, and I were standing next to the CM, chatting away while we waited (we were all college-age, and were discussing schools)...and lo and behold, after about 5 minutes, the "gentleman" standing behind us proceeds to shove his way up to the podium and say, "Hey BUDDY. I don't give a rat's where you're from, and what college you go to, and whatever the heck else you're yappin' about. I've got FP's for ToT, and I WANNA KNOW WHAT YOU'RE DOIN' TO GET THIS RIDE BACK ON TRACK!!!" All the while, we're standing there literally agape. The man continues berating this poor CM for about another minute, when the three of us finally turned around, and in so many (polite ::yes:: ) words, told him to get back in line and wait with EVERYONE else in the room who wasn't throwing a tantrum, or take his ToT FP and leave. People actually started clapping and waving :wave2: when he started to walk out, and one man in the back actually shouted, "Here's hoping the elevator breaks while you're on it, buddy!" The CM thanked us (and slipped us some FP's good any time)...even better, not 30 seconds after that guy had walked out the door, the ride started up again!

My other pet peeve is parents who let their kids hang on/swing the chains that hang from the poles forming lines - How many times does an entire line of people have to get banged in the shins by a swinging chain before a parent will make it stop?!!! The chains for the lines at Soarin' (in the tunnel before the pre-show) have magnets holding them together in the middle. I don't know how many times I saw 2 kids in front of me swinging these until they came apart and turned into steel whips of death! They weren't really affecting me, a few people behind them, but I did wonder what would happen if one of the kids was clobbered in the face because of it. Not to mention the relentles "CLANG, CLANG, CLANG, CLANG" as the chains hit the ground, the poles, etc.

have you not read a single word of what I said? We stand up when the bus is arriving. Usually before it. We stand once we see other people coming. But by that point it's too late because now people have started lining up behind the others who have decided they must be first, even though they were not there first. So now, we are the ones that look like the line jumpers even though we were there first.

Perhaps you're all not familiar with the bus stops that I"m talking about. The ones I mean are the ones that have small waiting areas, with no queue lines - just a bench and some sidewalk. There's no reason to be on the bench unless you are waiting for a bus.

If you arrive at a bus stop and someone else is already there then the polite thing to do is say "are you waiting for this bus?" Is that so hard, to open your mouths and utter some bit of politeness? are you waiting for this bus?

My head is ready to explode on this - but if someone is waiting at a bus stop then they are waiting for a bus. End of story. don't assume that they are waiting for anything but the bus. The bus. That's it. Just the bus. Only the bus. they are waiting for the bus. Whatever bus you're takign -that's the one they're waiting for. Got it.

You may be waiting on the bus, but if your on the bench, your not in line. Your on the bench. Do you get it, on the bench, not in line. One more time on the bench, not in line.:rotfl2:

:thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

You forgot to say "Repeat after me" On the bench, not in line.......
:rotfl2: :rotfl2:

When I come across situations like these, where people don't say thank you....I simply say "You're welcome your highness" It certainly speaks volumes and is very effective when said loudly and infront of a lot of people:p

I do almost the same thing. Whenever I hold a door open for someone or do anything else that deserves a "thank you" and I don't get it, I say a cheerful "You're welcome!" with a huge smile on my face. This way it just looks like I'm certain they've said thank you and I'm just responding back with more politeness. I can't tell you how many people turn around and look shocked and a little angry, but when they see my innocent smile say thank you :lmao:

Nobody's feelings get hurt and everyone feels they've been polite :thumbsup2

My pet peeve is bus riders. If there are people standing and you have a young child that will fit nicely on your lap, place him/her there and let a stand up rider, sit. It will be much appreciated..

I am afraid to offend anyone on my March trip.

The pictures thing.... well I also don't see particularly well and I am watching my two kids and looking around at all that is around me too ~ MOST of the time I don't notice someone trying to take a picture. Lucky for me DH is observant (hey why isn't HE watching the kids too ;) ) will notice the picture takes and usually say something to me. So since if I walk into someone's picture by mistake ~ I usually feel like the same thing has happened if someone walks in my picture.

I guess what I am saying is ~ a lot of the things here that people think are rude ~ I think of as oblivious and caught up in enjoying the moment.

Letting your child poop on the ground or pee in a cup is not rude behavior it is stupid disgusting behavior not to mention I would think breaking some health rules that could potentially get the ride you are so intent on not leaving the line for shut down.

To the PP with the child who has a sensory issue... of course that is a different situation than I was talking about. I am talking about the parents who stare straight forward while the kid meltsdown and pretends like it isnt' happening. My LO is OCD and you can't tell that by looking at her either but trust me it effects her in every aspect of her life. We are prepared for what triggers her to meltdown and quickly remove her from the situation when we see something that could be a trigger. That is what I am talking about.

Not to bring up the bus AGAIN ~ but that is one of her triggers we need to watch out for. If she sits in the same seat more than once then she thinks that is HER seat. So we have to be prepared and prepare her that she might not be able to sit in HER seat this time... etc.

Anywho ~ my point: Not all perceived rude behavior is intended rude behavior.

I think kids are automatically drawn to these things. My boys do this and I am usually the worst mom in the world for making them cut it out ;) It annoys me to no end when they start messing with these things. Maybe they can put some kind of electric shock in them...THAT will make them stop playing with it :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl:

I'm so mean :goodvibes

*Note* I'm only joking about the electric shock thing...maybe :rolleyes1

"Don't taze me, bro!!!"

I had to go there.......

We have been to both WDW and DLP (Disneyland Paris) many times and we find that, in the main, the Europeans win all the prizes for rudeness at DLP - Americans in WDW don't even come close. (I am speaking as a European BTW).
Sure, we have little gripes about inconsiderate things people do in the parks (usually without thinking) - but generally we have had few problems - that's why we keep coming back to the US!

My husband was on Main Street in his boxers and his birkenstocks!

We were sitting waiting for the parade and a family of kids was next to us. One of this kids got a very stinky diaper and wanted to be changed, but the mom said to wait for after the parade.

Little girl did not like her moms answer and stuck her hands in her diaper and pulled out a handful of poo. Which the devil child then proceeded to WIPE on my husbands shorts.

The smell was horrid. Husband starts gagging and drops his shorts right then and there. Luckily he had on cute plaid boxers so you couldn't tell he was not wearing pants.

The mom never apologized - just shrugged her shoulders.

C'mom that is so rude!

I agree with you on the kids are drawn to these like magnets. My dd loves to read the Timon and Pumba safety signs. Can even recite the one about these but does she think about that she tries climb/play with them - no. Instead she gets a reminder from me.

It is hard for kids to ignore these especially when teenagers/adults are using (the pole type) to sit on.

You may have something going with the electric shock thing..... I wonder if that makes me a bad mom!! :lmao: :rotfl2:

I think a rude behavior that's has not been mentioned yet is not cleaning up after yourself at the counter service restaurants. I know that the CM are supposed to wipe down the table but they should not have to throw away your left over cups and trays. I not saying you have to wash your spot down, put get rid of your used napkins and bags. I saw one time that a table looked like the entire group got up and didn't remove a thing. The CM didn't know if they were coming back or not. It looked like they all went to the restroom mid-meal.

:scared1: Oh!!!That is soooo disgusting. Anybody with any sense of common decency (sp?) would be mortified. Did your husband wipe it off his shorts onto the mother and say thanks, but no thanks?

Rude and gross. I can't imagine that your husband even wanted to take those shorts back to the hotel with him to wash. woman owed him a new pair of shorts.
