Royal Plaza?

My husband and I are looking forward to going to WDW in a month. It's the first trip for both of us since we were 12 and 16 respectively. He was lucky enough to stay in the park way back when. He stayed at a place called the Royal Plaza, which obviously doesn't exist anymore. I was just a little curious about the history of the Royal Plaza, where was it, was it torn down, etc....

I think he was there around 1980 or so. Any info would be interesting.

The hotels in this area are not owned by Disney so resort benefits and amenities may vary.
