Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

Weekend wrap-up. I kind of just left my screenshot above with no explanation or anything because I was just so done with my day. But I'm alive again and have my coffee now :surfweb:

Last week:
Tuesday was easy.
Thursday was both easier than expected and still hard. That extra 1 mile of tempo shouldn't seem as daunting as it is. It's very mental and I think wouldn't have been as rough if out on the roads instead of a treadmill. Over an hour on the treadmill is just a lot no matter the speed. And then 15-20 min beyond an hour is just a LOT on the treadmill. I need to start covering the clock, maybe I'll do that next time. My knee felt super normal after and that was the real victory.
Saturday 4 mile was good. I went out and it was way colder than I expected even though I was very bundled. So I came inside and threw more clothes on and subsequently trapped my watch inside a jacket with sleeve cuffs and just went "meh?" and ran 4 miles. So I came out faster than intended but not so much that I'd be alarmed by it. It was cold and I think I naturally just am a tad faster when I'm not especially hot.
Sunday: Ok I need to preface sunday's wrapup with the fact that on Friday post tempo run I was exhausted at work. I couldn't fall asleep properly because my brain was amped and I was just dragging all day. And I don't think I fully caught up all weekend. So by Sunday's run I was concerned I was going to fall asleep in a bush at like mile 2 if I wasn't careful. I didn't know if I'd have it in me to get going past a slog jog. But then it was freezing cold again and that woke me up right quick!! Brrrrrr. It said 30 but it felt like -30. WINDY! My pants were almost too thin because I swear I got windburn on my thighs (TMI?) Anyways, I wanted to quit at mile 2 and turnaround and make it 4 miles. Not because I was hurting or that it was hard, I just was mentally fatigued. But I instead turned farther away from my house to physically make cutting it short harder. So instead I got back to my house at 5 miles and mentally I wanted to nap in a bush. But instead I turned back and ran 1 mile away so I'd have to run 1 mile home. Again, physically I was pretty ok, mentally I was a bit over it. You can see my paces above. I had one way too fast which was an overcorrection for a slow one (that was still pretty close to pace.) And then I kind of did the same thing again later on. But my overall ended up -.01 from goal. So I guess high-five to me. I'm only looking at my watch now like twice per mile because of the being bundled up but also because it makes my long miles go by faster. So I'm not so spot on to my pace as I could be if I was correcting a ton. But I guess that's alright, right?
I went to bed with a slightly sore back muscle, on my right side kind of in the rib area. It's still there this morning when I lift my hand up or cough (which I should stop doing for no reason.) Maybe it's because I carried a water bottle on that side for the first time for that many miles...I wonder if I wasn't naturally swinging that arm like normal? It's not so bad that I'm concerned yet. I loved my handheld bottle btw for the long run but I'll ditch it when my water fountains turn back on.
Knee is good again! Slight hot spot blister started at mile 6.5 but never turned into anything.

OK - if you read that wall of text I'll send you a Bailey's Irish cream coffee via the magic of the internet.

Tink Training Week #9 & time to dine... aka ADR week!
Monday 3/13: Bachelor picks a lady and I'm seriously over this season already.
Tuesday 3/14: 3 mi @ EA
Wednesday 3/15: STIR
Thursday 3/16: 1.5 mi WU, 4 mi Tempo, 1.5 mi CD - getting an earlier start may be key, less dawdling and staying up late!

Friday: REST
Saturday: 4 mi @ EA - I WANT TO WATCH LIVE ACTION BATB SO BAD!!!
Sunday: 7 mi @ LR - goal is to be mentally in a better place for this one. Oh and it's BLIND!

I made an ADR for Wine Country Trattoria for Friday night of Tink weekend. I'll be post expo-fun by then and hopefully relaxing with a nice glass of wine with my mom and sister and just taking it all in. Unless we change our minds and do something totally different for that night :)
I've got two more days of ADR making but I'm ready for it :)

I'll be waiting for my coffee. ::yes::

I think finishing the runs where you want to quit is super helpful, with building mental toughness I guess? So good job pulling through. ADR week continues!! :tinker:

For you...

I think mental fatigue can be worse than physical- way to go on completing your run on Sunday!! You are strong!

Your new top is perfect for St Paddy's day and I also really love the 1/4 zip. :D

How much coffee is too much today? ;)

I'll be needing that coffee as well.

And, good job on a tough mental run. It sucks so much when it's super cold out like that and WIND. I'm ready for spring to come back around. It's freaking freezing here today. Nice to see STIR making a formal appearance on the schedule though. ;)

Do you body glide your feet? I always do for long runs to prevent hot spots/blisters, especially in summer when my feet sweat & swell more.

You know, I have. For a 10k and my 15k and for a few long runs...and I totally forgot this time!! I even forgot I forgot until you mentioned it. I won't make that mistake again. Also my preferred socks are no-show so my longer socks probably contributed. Winter needs to go away!

Good job adding on the miles to finish the run even if you weren't in the mood.

In terms of the water bottle - I don't know how easy it is with the bottle you use, but I alternate hands with my water bottle. I usually switch hands at the end of every walk break, but there are other ways to do it - sometimes when I do laps in the park I change it every lap, sometimes I do it every mile ... it depends on the day and the run. I don't know if it actually helps, but when I switch hands, it makes me feel like I'm hurting my arms less...

Yeah, switching arms makes a lot of sense and my bottle is ambidextrous. I think my neurons weren't firing on all cylinders that day. At least I've got a long run this weekend to make up for my little mistakes.

Good news though....we got dumped with a billion inches of snow today and it should continue tonight, so I may be stuck on the treadmill for a while anyways!!! (that's not actually good news, but I figure if I type it like its good news then I will convince myself...eh nevermind)

BUT FOR THE REALLY GOOD NEWS: I booked Blue Bayou for Saturday 11:30am lunch during my half weekend and I'm so excited!! Dinner will likely be nothing fancy but it's better that way pre-half. YAYYYYYY!!!!

Good luck on the treadmill runs... I had a couple of work trips in winter to Western New York, treadmill was the only option for a couple of runs, and I SWEAR time went backwards on those things.

Where I live (NZ) is mild all year, never below freezing, though we do get a lot of rain. But it pretty much means running outdoors all year round without issues.

Treadmills are time-warps that is for sure. Running outside is the opposite...I blink and it's been 20 minutes (well not always, but more often than on a treadmill)

New Zealand?!! I've only gone outside the US a few times. To Canada and then to New Zealand and Australia. It was the summer before high school and I was with a tour group from our local schools that also had us staying with local families. So I was in Rotorua and then on a sheep and dairy farm for a bit one summer. I'd love to go back as an adult. Dis-board exchange program?

So if you follow me or notice me on Strava, you probably were thinking to yourself "Hmmm, where's roxy's 3 mile run from last night" because I know you all are waiting with baited breath for those updates to come in every Tuesday :)

Yeah, so we got snowed on A LOT yesterday and the trip to the gym was a no-go. BUT if all the weather apps are to be trusted the snow is supposed to not come back all week and the temps are supposed to start rising a little bit (rain on friday bleh) so there's 0.00 reasons for me not to get my 3 easy miles in tonight. The commute to work was ok today compared to yesterday's nightmare.
Anyone else get super-snowed on? Anyone else so OVER this winter?

I am happy to report that all of our Tink weekend Dining plans are in place and we have a rough outline of Fun!

Snow ... grr. (Although we didn't get hit too bad ... but I will be happy when spring actually shows up)

I love your DL plans (minus Monday, which is super sad). I can't wait to see all of the thousands of medal pictures after you rock the half!

You can't complain too much about snow, didn't Chicago go like two months at the beginning of the year with no snow?

Also, those stupid Blackhawks. The only team the Wild can't seem to figure out. Hopefully the Blackhawks get eliminated early in the playoffs and the Wild won't have to worry about them.

Yeah we have been pretty lucky as far as snow goes, but I couldn't call myself a real Chicagoan if I didn't spend most of my energy complaining about the snow when it does come. Even though I know it should mostly melt by end of this weekend.

And you are right, those blackhawks are stupid.....STUPID AWESOME...STUPID RIDICULOUS...eh, you get the point.
It was pretty ridonkulous that you got 44 shots on us though. Luckily Crow was sitting on his head.
Also, I don't know what planet Patrick Kane came from, and he is pretty much the definition of a lil @$*%, but he's our lil #%$&
Fun story...The hawks invited kiddo to come sit in the cup in their locker room when she was 1. She won a contest for basically cutest hockey kid in the world (really) and got the honor. Met Dennis Savard and Pat Foley. She's been back for her cup time and will get to come back as long as they win again (this year seems good.) We even got our very own jumbo-tron video for a few months. #mombrag

I hope if ya'll win the first round that you at least get rid of any blue or yellow scum along the way. We will do our part to do the same for you.

Also...DINO S*CKS!

(All meant in good fun, I love hockey people no matter their allegiance, except during any and all game 7's)
