I'm in Corral D (Whaaaat??? Ok!)
So that means Wave 1 and thus less standing around. And guess who is joining me...Roxyhubby! Thanks to some fast 5k-ing by him last Fall we are gonna be corral buddies :) Happy dance.
I realize chomping will be significantly harder in Wave 1, but at least there will be some buffer time before Corral E starts coming up on me.

Yay!!! Go girl!
:car:

Double Wave 1 starts ... what??? YAY!!! It's going to be an exciting race day for the roxy family!
I mean, who have we even become? Started from G now we're here. :rotfl2:

Have not discussed his race goal yet so no idea but I think we both have PRs in us. Last year we were both just surviving to finish it without walking and now we are more used to distance. Or something like that. TBD

So I guess I'll talk about what I attempted to (and I think at least 78.25% achieved last night) for my "do something that isn't running" Wed night.
I downloaded an app like a million years ago and then subsequently forgot about it. It's call Wahoo (anyone heard of that)

It basically has sets of workouts that are generally weight bearing instead of using weights. Though I could easily throw in light hand weights to a lot of these. It shows little videos of all the excercises if you need a refresher (I DID!) and then you choose one of the workouts and it basically will be like

"Jumping Jacks next"
"GO" and then it counts down 30 seconds on the screen
"Now Rest, planks are next"
"GO" however many seconds countdown
"Now Rest, wall sits are next"

Etc until my whole body wants to die and I have an above average amount of sweat on my sports bra. TMI?

I did appreciate being able to wear shorts in my basement and literally not care how weird I looked while "attempting" some of these things. I had to laugh out loud at myself during the high-knee runs because I'm sure I just looked immensely jiggly and flaily. But I guess that's the point of this, to get sleeker and stronger and less wibbly-wobbly.

FYI: Planks are tricky because they feel easy at first...until they don't. And then you go from super confident to shaky and burny.
Same goes for wall sits and push ups and crunches and pretty much all of them.

But I did it and feel relatively normal today and I think I want to do it again on my other off night Friday. Just to redeem myself a little on some I kind of half-arsed. Namely anything related to a push-up motion.

Fun FACT: My hubby informed me that his buddy who is a police officer had to do a 5 minute plank! during his academy.
ummmm nuuuupe!

So I'll try this thing out again, try the different workouts and then maybe graduate to some of the other things people have linked for me/suggested. In an effort to be stronger than a baby bird :)

Are you talking about the 7 minute workout app?? I like that one! At one point I was doing it 3 times in a row, but I've been slacking lately...

Another app that is pretty good is SworkIt.

Yep! That's the one!

A co-worker uses it and said the same thing as you. She started out not doing very many reps but then started to repeat it once she got good at it.

Ok - will put SworkIt on my list of things to look into.

5 minute plank??? No freaking way. I'm a big wobbly mess at 30 seconds although I can successfully hold it there and slightly past, but ugh. Still that's what makes us stronger, yes? Congrats on a 78.25% successful inaugural STIR (something that isn't running) Wednesday night!

5-minute plank is insane. I read an article about a month ago that you lose the benefits when you go over 2 minutes, but even that still seems impossible for me to get to (I'm building up to 1 minute right now).

Also, the world record for the longest plank held is 8 hours 1 minute. ***. http://www.guinnessworldrecords.com/world-records/longest-time-in-an-abdominal-plank-position

Wait? 8 hours? I'm calling shenanigans. Must have had like a secret board under him right?

Ps 1 min plank is quite impressive. I did the elbows on the ground version so I've yet to do the hands on the ground kind. I did a couple horrific side planks though!!!

STIR! I like it. That's how I'll refer to it from now on.

Want to know what other STIRing I was up to last night?

I made these

And then kiddo and I did this...

That's blue velvet with strawberry marshmallow frosting. And every sprinkle we own.

So that's what a busy night looks like. Still in bed by 9:30 somehow. Big 7 miles tonight so I'll be heating up nuggets or something else mindless tonight :)

CUPCAKES!!!! I'm low-carbing it right now and that would be my total nemesis.

Also, side planks are from the DEVIL!!!

Also, also, your kiddo is so cute!

Also, also, also, my 13-year old informed me that I used far too many exclamation points in my text to her congratulating her on raising her science grade!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh, these were magic no-carb, no-calorie, no butter, no sugar, no I am not telling the truth Cupcakes!

Tell your 13 year old that I am proud too; with this many !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

CUPCAKES!!!

Also ... that app sounds like my worst nightmare. I don't do jumping jacks or planks or anything like that. I could for sure handle the rest part, though. I'm awesome at resting.

Ok so if Billy is my running coach.
Then perhaps I need coaches for other facets of my training.
How about Ariel for Style coach, Zelly for STIR coach and Sarah for resting coach!
I'll accept applications for other positions as well.
(how many seconds until someone comes over to enroll as Dopey coach?)

Well, we clearly know who will volunteer as Dopey coach don't we? :D

I will accept the position.
First coaching tip: Get some comfy clothes that you never want to change out of. It's easier to rest when you're super comfy.

No I saw a video of the world record happening, the guy was nuts.

I can go over a minute. I am not a fan of side planks, I just don't feel they work all that well. I will do other core exersizes to make up for that like Russian twists. Core was always part of all workouts when I played football.
