Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

The plus is that we don't have to eat any of the bad food, but the minus is all that yummy looking food that we don't get to eat!
The really plus plus though is that watching food will not affect my waistline the same as eating the food.

And, yes, I pretend like I'm on the show when making dinner on occasion (ok, actually a lot.)

I think my husband said that he listened to or watched a Padma podcast recently so I'll have to get that from him and send you the link.

No, at mile 12 of the half you are going to be like "only 1.1 miles to go, let's kick it into gear and finish strong!" No worries, you've got this. :thumbsup2

This is so true!

roxymama, I'm with you on the treadmill blues. I think I'm taking a break from my treadmill. It's been great to get me through so many long runs in terrible weather - especially marathon training. But I've been running outside again. My first half marathon of the season is coming up on April 9, so I need to get used to the cold again anyway! 21 degrees for my run today - and wind off the lake - burr!!!

I'll be out there on Saturday and Sunday...just not by the lake so maybe it'll be slightly less brrrr for me.

Oh, good, more Top Chef people. I love Top Chef.
I'm happy with yesterday's outcome ... and that's all I'm going to say.
Also, I know it's crazy, but I love Katsuji. And only about 50% because he's a kosher chef and I'm kosher-observant. The other 50% is because even though he's really mean sometimes, he's hysterical.

Katsuji is crazy and thus why I love him. It's the crazy people who really make it fun to watch.

So, just to make for more of a Top Chef takeover of Roxy's thread, anybody got a favorite all time Chef. Mine is probably Richard Blais but I also always adored Fabio when he was on. I also really like Kristen Kish (had to google to find her last name).

Richard Blais is also probably my all-time favorite. He's the only chef I follow on Facebook. I also loved Fabio ... and his pet turtle. I really liked Brooke and wanted her to win her first season (much as I do mostly like Kristen, that was a heartbreaking finale for me ... I'm so glad that Brooke got to come back this season to try for another win). There are probably a lot of others that I loved during their seasons but have since forgotten.

All-time least favorite ... Marcel Vigneron. I hated Marcel. With Spike Mendelsohn as a close second.

UGH, Marcel. I completely agree. Worst chef on the show ever!

The Voltaggio brothers are my favorite cast members from the various Top Chef seasons. Great chefs and decent guys.

I've lived in this climate long enough that I should be able to spell brrr! I'm distracted by the fact that we just bought $62 Chicago Hamilton tickets a few days ago!

Richard Blais is easily my favorite too!

Omg!!!! Total Top Chef thread takeover...I love it!!!!

Had to go take a selfie with one of prized possessions ... my top chef cookbook with really hard recipes!!

This one is my all time fave to make...from Elia

Made with an eggo for surfers on a beach flame...I don't have any surfers or beach though.

I have a soft spot for Stephanie Izard because she has a bunch of restaurants we frequent in Chicago. Girl and the Goat, lil goat diner, duck duck goat!!! All really good.
Birthday dessert for hubby at duck duck goat few days ago
IMG_9037.JPG

I've had a bunch of top Chef master and judges food because eating is my other hobby. Rick Bayless, Art Smith, Grant Achitz, Graham elliot. Hubby had Tom Colichio too! There's a ton more I'm forgetting. We tend to spend on yummy stuff...hence the running being very helpful.

Oh and I just made this pic for you all. Who wore it better hair edition?
IMG_9069.JPG

I watched the finale and didn't know who to root for. I liked to top 3 so much. I want to eat Brooke's first two courses and Shirley's last two courses and all of Sheldon's food ever!!

This is my cooking last night.
IMG_9064.JPG
Blue Apron Udon soup...yummy yum! Tom would probably say I added a touch too much salt.

I ran today!
@pixarmom i got first tracks in the heavy snowfall
IMG_9071.JPG

Ok not really heavy, just a dusting. I did enjoy seeing my footprints on the trip back. I had to get out and back home in time to shower before hubby left on his Odd Side brewery beer-adventure with his buddy. So I did LR pace and will do the EA pace run tomorrow when I have more time. Hope that is ok. I hit 10:56 which was good. All my laps were within pace.

Now I'm hungry!!!!!!

Yay for outside!!! How was the temperature? I ran the Snowball 5K this morning and it was COLD! Made a poor choice in socks, feet froze immediately and literally could not feel them hitting the ground. I only knew I made ground contact because I could feel it in my legs.

Your dinner last night looks wonderful! So jealous of your cooking abilities!

Congrats on the race, sorry to hear about your feet/legs freezing. I probably overdressed as my hands were sweating in my gloves (ewwwww) but that wind man when it hits you...oof! Still better than treadmill.
Any good race swag? Medal? Aka the important stuff.

Gloves - I just bought these new oiselle mittens this year and I LOVE them. My hands freeze really easily and these are warm enough without being too warm. Highly recommend! If your run was better than the treadmill, it was a good run!!!

No medal for the snowball - probably because the race is so small. It was at the American Club at Kohler so the goodie bag included resort spa bath gel and 25% spa discount coupon! Also a yummy cookie from one of the bakeries in the shops there. Bloody Mary bar at the end, which is a great idea but I can't eat or drink anything other than chocolate milk after a race. (Which is not particularly cost efficient for me because around here, most race entries include beer at the finish.)

PS - Best meal of my life was at Tom Colicchio's Craftsteak in Las Vegas. For our honeymoon, my wife and I got the Japanese A5 Wagu (highest grade beef in the world) as part of the chef's tasting menu. It had several different types of foods throughout the entire meal (multiple salads, multiple grains, vegetables, desserts). It was a literal tasting of practically everything on the menu. You HAVE to do it once in your life!

I'm green with envy! We did Victoria and Alberts at our honeymoon. But that meal you described sounds phenomenal!!!! (Puts on bucket list)

I went to Koehler once but sadly not the spa. It was fun looking at the big wall of toilets and all the fancy showers I'll never own :)

I've been informed there's a show called Chefs Table on Netflix that's amazing. So your homework this month is to go watch that. Cause I'm gonna :)
In between momming, working and running that is.

If you're going to do a tasting menu in Vegas, Joel Robuchon at the MGM is the one to do. 16 courses of amazing food and excellent service. We go every year and call it our 13th mortgage payment.
