Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

Hi everyone. Due to crazy schedule this week I am departing for my tempo run right now BLIND. Had to do my runs out of order so I could so this outside. but I'm getting my miles do help me. I'll report back. Then Disney on ice tonight :)!!!!!

Ok, that wasn't the easiest thing in the world but I got through it. I'll write more later but I'm just mentally and physically a little overwhelmed and wiped out and it's not too much to do with running. There's easy weeks to juggle running and hard. I spent from 6am on yesterday in steel toe boots climbing around a steel mill doing physical inventory. Ooooph! Poor hubby didn't get one training run in this week and he's off to Dallas tomorrow.

Ok, pity party over. I flip flopped two of my training runs this week so I could blind tempo outside. Treadmill was my only option on Friday.
Ok I got...
9:55 +13
9:49 +7
9:56 +14

(Edited cause I had bad math at first...my brain was thinking 9:48 but my goal was 9:42)

Pretty consistent but on the slow side of the goal pace. I wish I could remember what I was doing on mile 2.5-3.5 Cause it must have been better. My last 1/2 mile of cooldown I got heavy legs...that or just mental "I'm done" and I started watch watching.

I should be happy with this, I actually am happy with this. But the doubt monster about 9 miles is creepy crawling all over me. Edited to add that I know I can do 9 miles slowly, my doubt is about quickly. Someone talk me off the pity party ledge. Earlier this year I couldn't even run 5 miles at easyish pace with same doubt monsters.

Edits added post shower and hydration and I'm less eeyoreIsh. I think I was just dissapointed with my outcome and being mopey. Feeling lil less mopey now.

Congrats on getting the run done! You're still 8 weeks away so don't worry about it! You're doing well! Lots of training left between now and then before we'd have to worry about pace/goals.

Great job on the run! And, of course you'll be able to do 9 miles quickly. Just stick with the training plan and believe in yourself. I do!

I'm so behind in posting because life is so full of ALL THE THINGS right now. But I promise I will be back soon with thoughts and updates. This week features the first of my "more than 6.2 miles" journey as I achieve the 7 mile mark. Cautiously excited about that. I'm slammed with responsibilities at the moment but I will do everything possible to get my miles in this week even if late night treadmill is my only escape.

Tink registration is 9/20. I want like 3 more months to make that decision. Let's see what I come up with this week. (I know it didn't sell out this year so you never know.)

Ok, I promised a real update. So here it goes.

Life is a bit hectic at the moment. Just one of those over-scheduled few weeks that pop up now and again. I've got a mix of the following fun things going on; I'm sure you all can relate to some of these. We are re-financing the house and have an appraisal this Friday so it's crunch time on making sure everything is looking good and clean and on the up&up. My hubby was out of town and then thankfully did not get picked for jury duty this week. Sigh of relief. I am covering for a vacationing co-worker (so happy for her though, she deserves the break) but it's during a very busy time at work with extra hours/meetings. And on top of that is just all the other crazy things we over-schedule into our kiddos life to make her a happy little camper (like actual mom-daughter bonding time.) Hubby is training for a 5k this Thursday and a triathlon this Sunday (he's crazy, but that's why I love him) in his effort to get 20 races this year. He's at either 11 or 12 already...I forget. So last night instead of having to pick who gets to run, I told him to go outside and get his easy run in while I cooked dinner and then I headed to the gym at 8pm for my run. It’s tough juggling two people in one family both training but I think we are doing a pretty good job so far. Wed is his swim night and then Thursday he races while I go and do my tempo after he is done. We are crazy.

So my plan for the week:

Monday: Rest…There’s no more bachelor shows until JANUARY??!!! What will I do? I’ve watched a few Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader “Making the Team” shows but it’s just not the same. Almost too mindless.

Tuesday: 4 miles @ EB 11:24 – I did this at 8pm on the treadmill at the gym while watching weird NBC shows. I braved the “front row” because it was empty and then 2 girls proceeded to hop on right next to me and another woman on the other side minute after I got on. So I asked myself in my head “I wonder who will be the sole survivor” from this group. The girls on my right lasted 25 minutes and the girl on my left lasted 40 minutes. So I was the sole survivor, bwahahaha. I’m weird.

Oh, and that easy pace I could do forever (if only I wasn’t bored out of my gourd on that machine.)

Wed: Relax…by cleaning my whole house. Yay?

Thurs: Cheering for hubby at his 5k by our house. Then 1.5 mi WU 12:58, 4 mi! tempo 9:42, 1.5 mi CD 12:58 = 7 miles!!! At least it will not be blind. I may have to treadmill this bad-boy too, now that will deserve a medal.

Fri: sigh of relief…appraisal will be over as will this crazy work week

Sat or Sun: 7 mil LR 11:01 (really looking forward to this one…I like my LR pace and I like being outside, just going to pick the day with the best weather.)

I have not posted meal pics in a long time because my phone is out of storage space and I’ve been too busy to back it up on my laptop before deleting stuff. So you will have to believe me that the cheddar shrimp and grits I made last night were really really good. And the spicy hoisin chicken thighs with bok choy and rice were stellar on Monday. Tonight is sloppy joes (can’t all be fancy!)

But I will say taking two whole weeks off from my meal planning because of back to back vacation weekends took a toll on our eating and it feels incredible to get back to my cooking routine and back to eating food that doesn’t make me feel like a blerch. That being said, it is truck driver appreciation week at work and there’s free bbq in the parking lot today so here I come brisket sandwich.

and @Ariel484 I see what you are doing. It may or may not be working. I may need to go to a meditation yert somewhere on saturday to come to a final ephipany about my tink participation next year. :)

Ok, so how many of you have had a suitcase full of clothes sit near your laundry room for an entire week post-vacation? Anyone? Everyone? Last night I wore the "dregs" of my workout gear because that was all the was left. I definitely have A-team outfits, B-team, and then these were like the ones I pretended no longer existed. I was laughing at myself because neither my pants nor my "sportsbra" provided any support. So...let's add "wash my clothes" to tonight's list of things.

Funny thing...this morning I opened the car door and it smelled awful. I figured out it was because my kiddo had spilled her milk yesterday all over the car seat and it must have soaked in and gotten all hot and stinky in the garage overnight. Upside down cup confirmed that. So I ripped out the car seat cover and will wash it tonight and took our backup car to work (yes, it has a carseat in it.) So life continues to be crazy, but "I got this"
Also I hate "old milk" smell now and forever.

Old milk smell is the worst!!! Glad you had a backup car to take instead of having to drive to work with that smell.

The course map for Hot Chocolate came out! This is the first time I am running a race where I will be doing the longer of the two courses. Every dual-race up to this point I've gotten to say "phew, glad I am only running up until x point"
Now I get to be the "sucker" who keeps on running :)

I think I've done the beginning in races and parts of the end. It's the middle part that will be new territory.

Being serious can be highly overrated. Even in running. Even in a Disney theme park. I mean where else can I run dressed as Prince Phillip from Sleeping Beauty or Luke Skywalker or Kylo Ren? And make fun of my costume for all it inaccuracies. Or tell other runners that I don't blame them for being upset at my Kylo Ren costume after they unapologized for accidentally bumping into me?

Yeah, I kind of love running in costume too! Probably why I have a sparkle skirt addiction even for "normal" races. One day I'll get one of those sparkly capes I see people wearing so I can have my own personal little superhero moment too.

Okay. Firstly and most importantly ... don't dis DCC: Making the Team. That show is awesome.

Second, you are insanely busy, and I'm amazed that you can keep up with everything. You rock!

Third, congrats on being the treadmill survivor. You should definitely get some sort of fancy prize for that.

Fourth, I definitely get the "no time for laundry ... until I run out of workout clothes" thing. I've been known to run in non-weather appropriate bottoms (aka leggings in the summer), whatever shirt I can find, and bras that I've owned for 10+ years. And then I finally get over myself and do the laundry (and/or ask my mom to do it).

Fifth,. old milk smell is the worst. Yuck. I hope it's all gone now!

Sixth (I really have no idea why I'm counting right now), being that crazy person who keeps running is the best! The people running the 5K may think you're nuts, but you get a nice fancy medal that they don't get, so you win!

Seventh, :tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker:
(even though I'm 99.9% not doing it because I have other travel plans earlier in the year that will make Disneyland in May very difficult)

So glad you get to be a sucker who runs longer! I remember when that happened to me (just a few months ago) and it's the best feeling. You're amazing!

Also, while I won't make it out there due to other trips I will add to the count!

:tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker::tinker:
