Roxymama's 5k to Marathon, Time to Collect Another Castle

Oh and I may have found these Nikes (online while googling for costume accessories, not like actually found them at a store) and there are different types of them...and so my search for them now begins.

Those Nikes look amazing, do you know what "type" of shoe they are? walking?

I know absolutely nothing yet...I'll be googling during my lunch break today trying to learn more. I see they made slides and casual ked-like shoes and big walking shoes too in this pattern. But maybe in a different country? Dunno yet but I LOVE THEM! I'm a bit cherry blossom obsessive at the moment.

I have a decision to make right now. It's 24 degrees out (booo) so I can go run my 4 miles soon in that weather or wait until after lunch when it's in the 30's.
Pro: get it over with, enjoy rest of day.
More down time before Sunday run.
Con: brrrrrrrrrr

Looks like tomorrow will get close to 50 out but will windy.

And that's my weather report. Gonna water and granola bar up and maybe just get out there. But brrrrrrr.

(I may have also preordered the blue Tink wristlet Eeeeeeeee!)

Based on strava looks like you were out there in the cold too @DopeyBadger

I tried to be like @ZellyB and take some lovely pics of my surroundings.
So here's the campus I like to run through (it's a ghost town this early)

My duck pond (currently duckless)

The indoor running track that taunts me because I have to be 55 to join or a student. Bahhhhhh humbug.
IMG_9048.JPG

The Starbucks that taunts me because it's either not open/I don't have my wallet/I'm running.

And here was my 3 mile marker.

It was snowing. You can't tell because it was tiny flurries. My backside is frozen still and I've been inside now for a bit.

Happy Saturday. Same time tomorrow?

Yea, I was out there too. The tolerance for cold seems to leave so quickly. It was 18 and might have been -10000F. But between the 10 hours between runs, no food between, and the snow/ice, I decided 5 miles sounded like a nice number! Congrats on getting out there!

18? :crazy2:

Get the Starbucks app on your phone!!

I can't solve the not open & running problems, but seriously ... I can't remember the last time I went to Starbucks and didn't use the app. Once, when I had a full-day class and forgot both my lunch and my wallet, I got lunch from Starbucks because I don't need my wallet there. Get the app.

Done and done. I wanted to figure out a way to finish my 4 miles on Sunday so that I could get a starbucks for my walk home. But by the time I went out I had already had a birthday brunch (for hubby and his buddies) and was severely over-caffeinated. And just couldn't justify adding to the calorie count for the day. But next weekend....mwahahaahaha!

Princess weekend is over...it's getting closer...

YAY for running route photos. I would be in big trouble if my running route took me past a Starbucks routinely!!

Woohoo on purchasing the blue Tink wristlet. It's so cute!!!

Back to the real world again after a weekend with back to back runs! I think the one thing that is abundantly clear to me with trying to make this 4 times a week running thing work is that getting my Saturday run in first thing after waking up leads to more success. Mostly so that my Saturday doesn't get too jam packed with other stuff and also so it frees me up to run whenever on Sunday that works best.
I WAY overdressed again on Sunday for my 4 miler...but it was in the 30's. Probably could have ditched the mittens and earwarmers and hoodie. Though it was doing this thing where the wind would be dead calm and then wooooosh out of nowhere freezing annoying wind...and then dead calm again. I don't think it affected my pace too much, but sure was annoying!
On the knee front...just one weird wobble going up from the road to the sidewalk. But then it was fine. I just gotta keep an eye on it this week. Still the left side.
I was probably too fast to start both my training runs this weekend. My calling card for running outdoors I guess. At least I think I did fairly ok relaxing into the right pacing (maybe better on Sunday that Saturday.) But I blame Saturday's maybe a bit too fast pace on who COLD it was and me wanting to get home. Brrrrr

Tink training Week # 7 Plan
Wait - #7 already ???

Gif fail...there's only 6 guys in this pic. One of them must be a little bashful (har de har har)
This week will be a bit challenging for scheduling reasons. But I'm gonna do everything I can to make it work.

Monday 2/27: Rest night. Bachelor is taking his harem to the Fantasy Suites. The only suite fanstastical enough to make me agree to stay there while a dude was dating 3 other women would be the Cinderella castle dream suite and I'd make him sleep in the tub. (scratch that...that tube is way too wonderful...he can sleep in the hall)
Tuesday 2/28: 3 miles @ EA (treadmill or headlamp with the zombies TBD)
Wednesday 3/1: strength stuff at home
Thursday 3/2: 1.5 mi WU, 3 mi Tempo, 1.5 mi CD - Blind Run (I'm not seeing a way to make this one blind only because I'm guaranteed a starting time of 9pm+ and so it's gonna have to be the gym and the treadmill. Sorry science :(

Friday 3/3: Rest
Saturday 3/4: 3 mi @ EA (hubby is going on a beer adventure with his buddy so really important that I go out early this morning...also he's gonna owe me some beers)
Sunday 3/5: 3 mi @ LR (+ bonus starbucks on walk home ONLY if I complete all my runs this week, right @SarahDisney ?)

Ok, so this week mileage seems insanely manageable and with the tight schedule I have (well actually hubby has) it is a great week to have lower mile runs. Makes it more do-able.
Next week I'm creeping back up with the miles but my schedule is not as full so it's all gonna work out :)

Goal for the week: Happy knee! Happy Me!

Woohoo on purchasing the blue Tink wristlet. It's so cute!!!

I will say that my only two sub-29min 5ks are from the Cougar race that finishes in the same quad as that starbucks. Maybe it's the pull of chocolate croissants that drags me across the finish line faster. There might be something to that.

I had it in my head for the longest time that I didn't need a dooney and I wasn't going to get one and then they released the pics and they were BLUE!! I mean, I can't ignore that. Basically it is purse fate.
I couldn't justify the bigger purse costs and this way I can sneak my tink into my larger bags I carry to work and stuff. So wristlet it is!

Sunday 3/5: 3 mi @ LR (+ bonus starbucks on walk home ONLY if I complete all my runs this week, right @SarahDisney ?)

Bonus Starbucks is always an appropriate reward for getting in all of your runs. Always. This week's plan definitely looks manageable, so I'm confident that you'll be earning that Starbucks!

And now some random musings after officially registering for the Shamrock Shuffle 8k this morning.

I used my Cougar 5k time of 27:49 which is an 8:58 mile. Since I’ll be adding 3 additional k’s on, I’m not under the illusion that my actual pace will start with an 8 when all is said and done so I put 9-9:30 as my estimated finish. Who the heck knows what will actually happen? It’s both fun to use a fast proof and also terrifying when you start thinking “but could I even do that again?” and “omg, fast people by me make me nervous” and “too much pressure!” Am I alone in that weird mental struggle? There's something great about being closer to the front (less waiting, less crowding, getting to feel all "cool") but then there really is comfort in being in the middle or back because there's just less pressure? More chomping and less being chomped?

But then I feasted my eyes on their corral breakdown. Yeeeps! I mean I know I was in G last year and it was massive but I don’t think my brain fully registered how fast this field is!!!

Screen-Shot-2017-02-14-at-9.11.16-AM-425x520.png

To put this into perspective; the Shamrock Shuffle is the #13th largest race in the United States (I had to look it up.) It's 38th biggest in the WORLD! It’s kind of cool that an 8k is up there with all the biggie marathons. It's bigger than any WDW race. And then you look at the paces and you realize there will be soo soo soo many fast people starting their season with this race. And why am I worrying??...I'm not sniffing the front and I'm so totally fine with that. I’m subconsciously pulling for corral E. Would be honored with a red bib (aka Wave 1) and could walk around like a peacock wearing it, but would feel a tinge less pressure in the front of the blue bib folks (aka Wave 2) and maybe there will be some extra room in between the two waves to breath.
It's funny how my total motivation for a good corral in Tink has everything to do with character stops and crowding and in this race I’m like “ACK, NO, I DON'T WANT A GOOD CORRAL...THAT's SCARY!”

Ok that’s my total random musings brain dump for the day. Hoping I'm not the only one that has weird corral anxieties (that changed based on any given race.)

I totally get what you're saying, and actually started dropping back corrals at my local races. It's just so much less pressure, and it enusres I'm not too fast "out of the gate" so I can manage a negatice split.

It's tornado watch time south of us and it's lightning city nearby but just far enough away. And it's pouring now. But I ate a paczki today against my better judgment (at least not the frosting kind) and so I stood in my gear staring out my front window like a grumpy cat just waiting and staring. And then I just went (after my hubby said "just go")
But to the gym...not running outside...I'm not that crazy...yet.

And now I'm home.

The end.
