After about 3 months in various hospitals this spring, my mother went to hospice in early June. She was there 9 days (much longer than the staff expected her to last). But it was the best place for her. She was cared for so wonderfully. The staff were truly angels. They did everything they could to make her comfortable in those 9 days. They bathed her sometimes twice a day. They'd give her all the sedatives she could stand. They adjusted her pillows at least hourly. They brought in a fan and made ice packs to cool her off when she ran a fever. She was non-responsive for all the 9 days and for many of the days before in the hospital.
Hospice was wonderful. And they were exceptionally kind to my family. They helped us prepare for her death and spent hours just talking to my brother, my sister and I.
I wasn't ready to lose my mother, either, but her death was very peaceful and she was surrounded by so many loving people.
