Roseanne (old sitcom, not the person)

About the DJ thing, in the first ep. there was a different actor for DJ named Sal Barone. I don't think he took off in his acting career because can't find much about him. Apparently him and Sara Gilbert (Darlene) argued a lot so DJ became played by Michael Fishman.

Yeah, David was introduced as Kevin, and I'm not sure why in the world they changed it.

Bev announced she was gay, but in the "real world" Jackie was gay, and not Bev. Bev was gay in Roseanne's book, but not in reality. Jackie was not gay in the book, but was gay in reality. Kinda confusing I know.

Some of my favorite Roseanne quotes:

DJ: I'm bored.
Darlene: And stupid. Don't forget stupid.

DJ (at VCR): How do you work this d*mn thing?!
Roseanne: Well you don't have to cuss for hell's sake!

LMAO!

I loved this show. Have the first season on DVD.

Wow how did I miss that? I thought Bev was the one that later announced she was gay?

Bev was the one that announced she was gay, but I think Roseanne was burned by all the negative reviews of the last season and tried to erase it with that last show.

I just like to pretend that the lottery and all that follows never happened. :p

Does anyone besides me remember when David's name changed. It use to be Kevin, then they changed it to David.

Yup. I remember that as well. It always sticks out when I'm watching the re-runs.

Wow! I think the OP needs a "Roseanne expert" tag! So how long was the original DJ on? Just that one episode? Whew I am confused on the gay thing! :lmao: We should do some Roseanne trivia!

Does anyone know what the subject of the very first episode was about? Call me crazy, but recently I saw an early show and the little boy they were calling DJ, wasn't the normal DJ. Anyone else know what I am talking about????
I can't remember the pilot specificially, but that was Sal Barone. He played DJ in the pilot episode only. Rumors say that there was friction between him and Sara Gilbert, so his mom pulled him out. Enter Michael Fishman.

Me too!!! :lmao: Didn't Darlene walk in the cell where Dan was and say "well, well, well" or something hilarious :)
She did indeed. This is one of my favorite episodes. Not only is Darlene so great, but we see that Dan really does care about Jackie. Not that we would think otherwise, but they had been at each other throats recently.

Kevin Healy. Can't remember, but pretty sure he was only "Kevin" for one episode.

She did, at Thanksgiving dinner. However, in the very last episode of the show, Roseanne reveals that the past year was fabricated. Dan actually died of the heart attack at the end of season 8. She also states that it wasn't Bev who was gay, but Jackie. She had changed things around to be "more interesting" for the book she was writing.

Thanks!

Original DJ was JUST the pilot episode. Nothing more. He disappeared in the 2nd ep.

The gay thing is kinda confusing to read. But just pretend Bev never said she was gay, and Jackie is the gay one. That makes it easier.

This might clear some things up::

In the show, EXCLUSIVE of the last episode:
Darlene marries David
Becky marries Mark
Bev is gay
Dan is alive

In the last episode we learn that THIS is the truth of the show:
Darlene marries Mark
Becky marries David
Bev is straight
Jackie is gay
Dan is dead

There are more things that would be affected by the last episodes revelations, such as did Jackie ever really have Andy? But it depends on when you believe Roseanne started writing...

Count me in as another "Roseanne" fan! I love that show and I watch the re-runs all the time. Thanks for clearing up the Bev/Jacky/gay thing because I was always slightly confused about who it was that was supposed to be gay. And I guess I'm in the minority here, but I actually liked the ending. I thought it was clever. I won't lie though, I cry everytime I see the series finale  It always makes me so sad that Dan died.

Oh, and I had no idea that the actor who played Mark died! That's really very sad :( Poor guy.

That's stupid - why would Darleen marry Mark? She coudn't stand him.

Wow, I never even thought of that :scratchin

There are two ways to look at it:
1- she started writing at the end of season 8, and the whole show was created based around that time frame. Like Dan had the heart attack, so she started writing an autobiography, which we see from the beginning with the changes that she made all along.
2- she started writing when Dan and the kids gave her the writing room for an occasion (mother's day or birthday, I'm blanking). So she starts writing, and it takes 8-9 years for her to complete the story, but for a better read, she made changes as she went (such as mom being gay, not sister)(who married which daughter)

It's all a matter of when the viewer believes Rosie started writing. But no matter what, everything changed.

That's what we see. But we learn that Roseanne changed it for a "better story" Becky and David were always better suited (there were episodes about this too), and Darleen and Mark were better suited as well. They paired off this way in "the real world of Roseanne." But in the "book world of Roseanne," yes, Darlene hated Mark.

I guess I am more inclined to believe that she started writing when they gave her the writing room (for her birthday I believe it was) and made the changes as things went along. To me, that would make more sense. IRL, Dan died of the heart attack but maybe her way of dealing with that loss was to have him live while writing her book. Just an idea :) But you're right, either way, everything changed when we found out it was all fake.

Isn't Fake Becky on Scrubs now?

Luckily she apparently got acting lessons:rotfl: She's not nearly as "high school play" as she was in the Roseanne days (although I catch glimpses here and there . . .most when "reacting" sorta in the background)

I couldn't stand that Prince guy that Jackie was dating. UGH!

Confession time: When I saw Mark on a rerun I was thinking did Doyle land in a different universe

Roseanne is my favorite show, EVER!

I don't really mind when the family won the lottery-I loved Jackie and Roseanne's reactions!!! One of the funniest moments.... but I refuse (in my own mind :thumbsup2 ) to believe Dan died!!! I seriously cannot accept it (how pathetic am I?) Although- if he didn't die at Darlene's wedding then he did have that affair when he went to California to look after his mother. :confused3 I don't know which is a worse thought!!!

I watch atleast one episode of the show a night. I TIVO all the episodes and I own the DVD's...I got my DH hooked on the show, too.

Ok, I sound a little weird now. :rolleyes1

ETA: Its so funny how the first episode David was on, his name was Kevin. Then later in another season, Roseanne says something like- 'Darlene has such control over David. David's not even really his real name, she just made that up!!!'

Another ETA: My aunt Bonnie met David (Johnny Galecki) when she was in NYC to see a concert. She was shy to go up to him and he noticed she was looking at him, so he approached her and talked to her, and thanked her for liking the show. He was very sweet to her and took a picture with her. I think he looks good!! It was so funny- she told him how her favorite episode with him in it was when he was having those 'racy' dreams about Roseanne and he agreed that was one of his favorites, too!!

(my Aunt is on the far right.)

Sara Gilbert is indeed gay. I'm not sure when she came out, it may have been after 1997 when the show ended.

Glenn Quinn was very very cute, but I guess he got messed up down the wrong drug path. Yeah, I knew about the fake accent but it's really amazing. You can never detect a HINT of Irish in his voice on the show!

As far as I know, Johnny Galecki is still alive. Although, he looks a little raggy these days I must say.

http://content.answers.com/main/content/wp/en/thumb/2/20/180px-Galecki.jpg < that's Johnny nowadays

I know aging is expected but boy you'd think the show ended 20 years ago!

Thats funny because DW Lauri and I watch this show all the time on Nick at Night and we always say how his Irish accent would frequently come out, especially in earlier seasons. Its almost like a game for us to listen for it. He definitely got better in later seasons though. Hugh Laurie (from House) on the other hand, MAN, you would never know he's hiding a thick British accent on the show!
