Roseanne back

I never watched the original but I was intrigued by the premise of the reboot so I gave it a try and I enjoyed it. The political jabs were more balanced and less heavy handed than what's going on at Will & Grace. I loved Roseanne's crack about how their fat pictures which Becky removed were the only ones where they "looked happy".

Apparently, the ratings were "massive" according to the Hollywood Reporter, so obviously there's an audience out there.
That was my initial thoughts towards Will & Grace. It's gotten a lot better IMO in the politics viewpoint but I will say I actually enjoyed the cake episode on Will & Grace even though it was political because it was giving a good message out there (well I took it as a good message that is).

I'm not the biggest fan of weighing down shows with politics because honestly part of the reason I watch these type of shows is to escape all that stuff. But in Roaseanne there was a different approach to political topics than in Will & Grace. On the same token I hope that Roseanne doesn't revolve too much around the politics.

I was a casual watcher of the original runs of Will & Grace and a casual watcher of the original runs of Roseanne though.

Overall I enjoyed the two epsiodes of Roseanne, we def. laughed enough, and will give the series a shot :)

I will give the show a chance but the political comments in the first show really turned me off. There are political channels I can listen to if I want to hear that. The show settled down in the second part and I liked it much better. It is a fine line but the social issues are interesting and funny. I hope they leave politics out of the future episodes.

I don't generally like political humor in sitcoms, but I'm glad they brought it up in a way where people on opposite political sides can laugh together. I know I laughed at jokes on both sides.

I loved it. Love that we're ignoring the finale...find it very interesting Darlene & David named their son Mark and am curious if they're going to dig into Becky being a widow more. Curious also about the lack of Jackie's son Andy--he and Fred were big parts of the later seasons so I feel like they have to address them both in some way.

Sarah Chalke is hilarious and I loved her spot. I definitely prefer Lecy Goranson's Becky, but Chalke is a fantastic actress. Goranson seemed the most stiff to me--something about her voice maybe?

I look forward to future episodes when they find their groove a bit more.
They kind of brought it up. Dan found the old book she’d been writing and they said something about it “never making it” and she should have made it more Dynasty like. (Paraphrasing, I don’t remember exactly what they said.)

Her voice was bugging me too. I think it’s because I still watch the reruns where she’s a kid. I think we’ll see Fred and Andy eventually. It’s hard to fit all that history into such a short time frame. We saw DJ for like 30 seconds.

Anyone know which talk show she was on this morning? DH was at a local car dealership and she was on a talk show that was playing in the waiting room. An elderly lady freaked over some of the things Roseanne said and got management to change the channel. She hollered out to people in the waiting room that they were disgraceful for sitting there listening to the interview! I don't watch morning TV and have no idea what show this could have been. I'd like to see how "disgraceful" this really was. :)

I tend to cringe when “someone’s” sensibilities are “most” /more important than others...kinda like free speech ..Only Free when it’s the Speech that the same “ someone” agrees too.
I saw her interview on a talk show yesterday, typical Roseanne voice but she actually seemed toned down to me.
Perhaps it’s her macadamia nut farm lifestyle in Hawaii that’s changed her, Lucky her!
Didn’t watch but may next time.
Reports say it had very High ratings!

“Generally speaking”, biracial children look more like their fathers (in my experience).

That's an interesting observation, but I don't think it's true. There is absolutely no biological reason that bi-racial children would look (on average) more like one parent than the other anymore than children born to parents of the same race. It's the luck of the genetic soup, having nothing to do with the race of the parents.

My niece and nephew are bi-racial and they both look more like their mom than they do my brother (although they are also clearly his children too...that is, they have some of his characteristics in their faces).

I didn’t mind it so much ... I would completely expect them to be conservative given their very blue collar story but I think they showed a range of opinions. I have always loved the show , it reminds me of the way my parents parented and a lot how we do with our kids so it makes me laugh .

I had seen the old old show enough times to remember the characters, but wasn't a huge, watch-every-episode fan or anything, so I mostly taped it just so I'd know what everyone was talking about.

I liked how they just laughed at themselves about the changing the ending, that they found a way to bring back both Becky actresses, and I enjoyed seeing the next generation of kids.

I didn't like all the political stuff. (I watch sitcoms to escape that, not rehash it!) So I didn't end up watching the second episode. But I may give it another go if that settles down.

It's a lot like Will & Grace to me. I feel like for whatever reasons shows feel like they have to be political or else they won't get viewership. Will & Grace to me settled down quite a lot after the first few episodes with only things here and there I'm hoping Roseanne is like that but I would suggest giving just a few episodes to see if the politics settles down to be in the back rather than the forerunner.

I taped it but didn't watch it yet but Roseanne was on Wendy Williams show. I heard Wendy was really pushy with her questions and Roseanne was annoyed. They been on a bunch of talk shows this past week. Roseanne was on Access live. Think Roseane, John and maybe Darlene were on Stephen Collbert. Whole cast was on Good morning America I believe last week. I have since deleted all their appearances, so cant completely remember.

I don't have a source but I'm pretty sure I've read somewhere that show isn't going to push a political agenda ad nauseam, like some shows do.

I always loved Will & Grace but after watching the first episode of the reboot I never watched again. That was too much "political" for me. Ya Roseanne was a little political too but to me it wasn't over the top and both sides were represented. And I LOL on the digs to both sides. That made the political jabs more tolerable to me.

We watched and really enjoyed it. The political stuff didn't bother me because I didn't feel like the show had any sort of "political agenda" - it was just discussion between two people who had voted differently.

I thought it was great how they sort of just picked up where they left off.

The first go around I watched at first. But there's only so far you can go with a bunch of miserable, obnoxious dysfunctional people cracking on each other all show. I lost interest quickly.

I've always thought Roseanne tried to be obnoxious for the sake of being obnoxious. From her national anthem, to her stand up, to her first TV show. And I think a lot of people liked her based upon who hated her rather than based upon her.

As for this one, we'll see. One show doesn't make a series. But my preliminary impression is I prefer Archie Bunker.

I actually like that the way they're handling the politics, making light and fun of what is actually going on with many of us with our family and friends and opposing views was really the comic relief many of us need IMO lol. I think if they handle it with care and lightness and not be one sided, it has a lot of potential to do some really funny things with the crazy politics in this day and age. At first didn't want to watch but kind of glad I did.

I enjoyed the show very much. The political stuff didn’t bother me because they took jabs at both sides. That was refreshing. As mentioned previously, there was something different about Lecy Goranson’s voice. It seemed deeper.

I think some of them seemed a little “stiff”, but I think that will improve with time. Apparently, the ratings were huge. I hope they can keep it up. I will continue to watch.
