Rose Bowl Tickets - what a bummer...

Today I planned my whole morning around being at my computer at exactly 8am, and not one second later than that so I could try my luck with Ticketmaster for general public sales of the 2010 Rose Bowl. Nothing. Gone. Just gone. (Not even "gone in 60 seconds.")

After a few minutes of futility, I google "Rose Bowl Tickets" and there are brokers with over 20 tickets - actual seat numbers and everything, at double the price. Now, I know this is probably news to no one....but here's my complaint:

If Tickets are limited to 2 per transaction, 4 per buyer....how did they get so many seats? And have them listed online?

Yes - I could have paid the broker - but it just makes me sick. "It's the principle of the thing," as my Dad would say. So, I'll stay home and watch it on television.

Hopefully, my kid had better luck with the student lottery.

Yes, I know it is the same complaint so many people have had in the past, but I was really kind of hoping.

My guess is that they got their tickets before they were actually available for the public..inside sources. When Ohio State clinched it, I heard that tour operators were already booking trips. So I am guessing again that tickets were released to others before the general public.

I totally see your point that its not fair to the average guy that just wants to go.

Also when they went on sale, was it PST or EST?

also there are tickets reserved for season ticket holders and you could prepurchase the right to buy ticket providing your team went to that bowl, if they didn't you would be out the money but if they did they you would have to pony up the additional money.

Tickets went on sale 8 am PST.

Yeah - I know tour operators get plenty, but the ones the broker had were individuals and pairs all over the stadium. I think maybe it was a resale site.

My son is a student at Ohio :cheer2:- he has season tickets - even he had to wait for the student lottery. Pasadena residents had a pre-sale event, bet we don't qualify.

On another note - I knew you could get a "right to buy" for the BCS Championship. (We have a cousin that was absolutely certain Florida was going, and she is out her bid money. Haven't heard if she is still planning to make the trip.) Did they have the same option for other Bowls? What a money maker for the BCS.

It's the ticket selling system. People wanting hot tickets to concerts go through the same hassle. It's a big scam - maybe when Congress is done with health care, they can deal with this consumer protection issue. *wink wink.

I thought when I went on the website to look, the first thing that came up was the right to buy for the rose bowl....I can't be 100%, it was a while ago that I was checking, but I think both options were there.
