Is it possible to walk into the Rose and Crown Pub, get a seat, and order the fish and chips? Specifically, are there tables?

We are not thrilled by the menu at the restaurant, but like the idea of escaping the heat and resting our feet! This would just be for DH and I, not all 6 of us.

There are a few tables, but you have to be extremely lucky to walk in when one is available, unless you go VERY early in the AM.:)

Agree with PP. the later in the day the more crowded it gets and I might be wrong but during really busy times (Christmas, NYE) they take the tables out since it gets so crowded.

We will be there in mid-May, potentially looking for an early dinner around 5:00.

There are only 3 (maybe 4) tables with seats for 4, plus a few standing tables. They are full from late morning on. You would have to wait your turn to grab one as folks decide to leave.
plus I don't believe there is wait staff in the pub.

Arent the fish and chips on the regular dining room menu anymore? Why not make a reservation and have a nice table to sit at while you eat (maybe even on the patio overlooking the lake) vs taking your chances at getting a pub table with someones backside as your view.. :goodvibes

We have gotten the fish and chips at the pub several times. You have two options... if there is a table you can snag it. There are a few tables with seat and a couple off to the side that are standing tables, or you can eat the bar standing up. Either way, order at the bar and they give you a number on a placard. If at a table put it on the table and it will be delivered. If at the bar it will be delivered there. Either way everything is ordered at the bar which is only a few feet away:thumbsup2

Yes, Fish & Chips is on the dining room menu. DH and I were just there the day after Christmas. Had a reservation for a late lunch, and got a table inside right next to the pub. It was perfect --- we had a few beers, fish & chips, a delightful server, and still got to experience the hustle and bustle of the pub. It's become our new favorite place!

:thumbsup2

Make a reservation. The chances of getting a table without a reservation is probably non existent especially in May. I will be going there on my vacation in May also and I already have my reservation.

can you sit at the bar and order from there?

There aren't any seats at the bar - if you don't manage to grab one of the few chairs, you stand to eat or go outside with it.

Also, they'll take Tables in Wonderland in the pub, even for food - but the 18% tip is added on it.

As noted, tables and chairs in the pub are removed during the Xmas rush, NYE and on weekends during the Food & Wine Festival (on weekdays they've been putting them back in)

1) There are four tables, but two are pushed together, so there are really only three.
2) Getting a seat at a table is pure luck.
3) They are prime real estate, and people wait for one (usually not nicely).
4) Also, in the Pub, you cannot order from the Dining Room menu.
5) So, you order the Pub snacks or cheese plates, or from the outside kiosk.

You can ask to share if you are comfortable with it - have done table sharing in the pub on a lot of occasions.

Thanks so much for all the replies!!!

I think we're going to hold off on this one. The reason we were wondering is because the table service portion of fish n chips is too much for even the 2 of us to share. (DH's tummy doesn't love fried food!) The rest of the menu doesn't really appeal to him, so it's not like he can switch up.

We're thinking now about Tutto Gusto (one of our faves) or Spice Road Table (tried for the first time in Nov. and loved it!!!)

Again, thanks...you guys are the best. :)
