Mo is having her Spirit birthday party on Sunday. I am doing all the food with a western theme and thought I would buy IBC root beer for the kids in the old fashioned bottles. A gal I work with told me she would be offended by that and feels it would be like "pretending" to drink real alcohol.

I'm not telling the kids it is beer! It is just root beer in old fashioned bottles! Is this chick over the edge or what?

Umm...yeah, she is. Why on earth would anyone be offended by that? Is she offended any time she sees kids drinking IBC?

Tell the kids it's sasparilla.

Sasparilla...that is cute!

oh my gosh!! that's totally fine! I could understand if you were passing it off as real beer. I say go for it! What a cute idea!

I see nothing wrong with this. I like root beer in those kind of bottles. It's better, as is Coke in a glass bottle.

It sounds like a nice touch to the party. Maybe you could put on homemade labels according to the theme.

Does she not realize that Coke was once not in a 20 oz plastic bottle?

LOL - the absurdity of that makes me laugh.

I love bottled root beer - and coke too, for that matter! Don't worry about it, the kids will love it =)

I'll never forget when I saw DH's 17 year old cousin drinking from a bottle like that. Totally thought it was beer at first! hehehe

I don't know why this mom is getting her panties in a wad - serve it to her child in a sippy cup...

since she plans on babying her child for a long time...

PS
Love the new picture of Mo and E...your children are so dang cute!

soda in a glass always tastes better::yes::

you should serve it with some "cowpatties" too
i have the recipe somewhere...it is chocolate with oatmeal & raisins and peanuts in it, kinda like fudge that comes out saucer shaped

Huh?!!! What a thing to be upset about! It's not like you're giving them non-alcohol beer so they can pretend they are drinking beer, that WOULD upset me. Who ever heard of being offended by rootbeer!

I see nothing wrong with root beer, however my experience with kid parties has been that quite a few kids don't like root beer....

You got me...she equated it to giving out candy cigarettes. Good thing she isn't coming to the party! :)

You could really go off her rocker, and get the root beer in kegs!

I thought that was what you were talking about, not the glass bottles

Really get her panties in a wad by serving root beer in a keg!

I've actually seen that. We had a western themed party at church and had root beer in a keg!

OT, but do they still make candy cigarettes? lol, I used to love those things...and I never started smoking! But, I just thought they were cool somehow!

think of it this way....it's better than coke because it doesn't have caffeine

Yes, the candy stores around here have them. My kids tried them, and didn't likethem.

I used that as a teaching moment.. see the real cigarettes taste even worse!

I think its good they didn't like them, too...I can see how even pretending to do something unhealthy could lead to a predisposition to go ahead and do it for real.

I grew up with both parents and all aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. smoking and I always hated the smell and the mess of it...nothing is more gross than a filled to the rim ashtray!

But something about those candy cigarettes had me...then again, I still will eat just about anything sweet! lol
