Rooms through CRO

Hi,
I was just wondering if a certain % of DVC rooms automatically go to CRO? I've noticed, on a couple of occasions, that there was availability at one of the 'Villas' through CRO but not through MS.

Thanks-
Donna

Yes....Each resort releases so many rooms for cash because DVC members are using their points for other things (cruises, non-DVC resorts, or other hotel options). We ran into this last year, couldn't get one night on points because it was sold out, but it was available for cash. We waitlisted and one came available on points. I don't know if DVC used one of the CRO rooms, or if there was a cancellation.

Once a room is assigned to cash, DVC can't use it for points, unless there was a foul-up somewhere.

Disney retains something like 4% of the DVC rooms for CRO as well as any of the members trading out who's points get turned over to CRO for cash.

Acutally, a little while back I had asked about that and I think (Doc maybe?) had said that if they had just released rooms to CRO for cash sometimes MS can indeed pull them back for points ressies so it may depend on timing. But there is something like 4% of the DVC rooms retained for CRO right from the get go;)

Maybe someone will tell me I'm crazy, but I think they do have SOME ability to pull rooms back from CRO.

We decided to stay a Saturday night in a studio before moving to our 2B villa. Called MS and said that BCV was first choice, BWV was second choice. The CM booked us into BWV. Then, I asked if we could be put on the waiting list for BCV. The CM pleasantly said "let me see what I can do" and put me on hold. About 5 minutes later she came back on and said that we were all set for BCV.

This room was booked on about 4 months notice. My assumption was that she somehow went back to CRO and grabbed the room. No?

They can "move rooms around" between points and cash, especially a short time before the date. If it looks like it's going to be unoccupied, why not move it to points availability and move another points room over to cash. I imagine they need a supervisor's approval to do this.

60 days before a date, DVC can release unreserved rooms to CRO for cash rental. If that room is rented, the profit comes back to the members as "breakage income" in the dues statement. During that period, it can still be reserved with points.
