Hi:

I am looking into a DVC and trying to figure out what size room we would really need to make sure we have enought points. We currently have 2 DD's 14 & 12. How long do you think we can get by with a 1 bedroom villa?:confused3

You can "get by" with a studio. It really is up to you and how you like to vacation. We like to relax a lot on vacation and spend a few hours in our rooms each day so we always got a 2 bedroom for our family of 4. Even when the kids were 4 and 5. We also get 2 connecting rooms if we are in a "regular" hotel so it really depends on your style of vacationing and how much you can afford.

Hi Tink.

Ok, so like you, we are a family of 4: 2 adults, and 2 girls 11 & 12 yrs old. We spent our first DVC trip in a 2 BR at HH. Ohhh, did that spoil us. Then we went to BCV (our 2nd home) and spent a week in a 1BR. While it was definately big enough, the girls really didn't like sleeping on the pull out sofa. We left the pull out open and made the bed every day. We found ourselves climbing around it. Annoying.

So...what did we do? Added on more points so now we guarantee a 2BR at BCV every year.

So....this might now be what you wanted to hear, but take into account that we are spoiled 2BR owners!!

Have fun and enjoy!
Diane

Another family of 4 here :goodvibes 2 adults, DD14 & DS11. When we bought, DH insisted that all we needed was a 1BR

We did ok in a 1BR last year. The kids will not share a bed, so we brought the aerobed with us and they took turns sleeping on it. In the morning we would fold up the bed and turn the room back into a living room. That was great for during the day, but when you're tired and coming in at night, kind of a pain to turn it back to a "bedroom".

Because we had developer points left to kill off and regular points that we needed to drain down, we got a 2BR for our June trip. It was so wonderful :yay: No fights about beds, no tiptoeing around sleeping children and most of all, no fighting over the bathroom :thumbsup2 Teenage DD's can take an awfully long time in the bathroom getting ready :rolleyes1 The 2nd bathroom makes all the difference in the world :dance3:

Needless to say, DH has decided that he really likes having the 2BR

We just bought at AKV and I love that the 1BR have 2 bathrooms! They also have the fold out chair and sofa. This way, my DD's don't have to share a bed and they can have their own bathroom....and we save points by getting a 1BR. My girls are only 3 and 5 now so this arrangement will suit our needs for several years yet before we NEED a 2BR.

If you are looking for a "home", AKV 1BR might be enough for you. Also, the 1BR at OKW is HUGE!!! Lots of room for an aerobed in the living room there. If you're looking to buy, you can always start with enough points for a 1BR and add on if needed.

Except for AKV where the one bedrooms have two baths, it is really nice to get a 2 bedroom so four people have two bathrooms. Saves Mom getting up an hour before everyone else! (Isn't it always Mom that has to do that)!:rotfl:

We have 300 points, we try to get a 2 bedroom whenever possible for the 4 of us, dd is 16 and ds is 8. We had done 1br, and inn rooms in vero, but we all just love the space, we don't make long trips, maybe 5-6 nights max, so the points don't run out. I think this year we banked almost 75 points, im thinking a beach cottage for next summer at Vero for 5-6 nights!!

As another poster said, you can get by with whatever you feel you can get by with. We have 2 kids, DD16 and DS13. We sometimes stay in just a studio and it's fine. Sometimes we get a 1BR just for the extra space and the kitchen. It depends on how long the trip is and where we are staying (we almost always get a larger unit at Hilton Head or Vero because we're in the room more). Most of the time we travel with friends or family so we get a 2BR.

The bathroom and bed situation would dictate a 2 bedroom to me in that situation. We have been spoiled at OKW with 3 real beds in a two bedroom (1 king and 2 queens), but in most DVC villas, there are actually only 2 real beds in a 2 bedroom. That means 3-4 people can be comfortable, so I don't like to do more than that. Now at OKW or any of the dedicateds at some of the other resorts, you can get 3 real beds so 6 people can be comfortable. More than that, and we get a GV.

Only the new Kidani building will have 2 bathrooms in the 1BR. The existing Jambo House 1BR only have a single bathroom. We bought in at AKV last year and stayed in a 1BR SV shortly after they opened the new DVC units in Jambo House. Our kids are young so the pull-out chair and sofa were enough for them.

However, we stayed this past June in a 2BR dedicated at VWL and that spoiled us for good. We just added on at AKV again to make sure we always have enough for a 2BR wherever we stay. It all depends on what you are comfortable with. For us, the extra space was worth it after having stayed in both size units. We have a boy and girl and wanted to avoid future fights over a single bathroom.
