Has anyone had any trouble or has heard of anyone having a room safe broken into at Disney? We have used them many times without problem, but were wondering about this.

I haven't heard anything but I have a question. I notice that there are room safes in the rooms at ASSp where we'll be staying. How does this work? Are they free to use?

The safes are free to use. They have a key in the lock with a big orange or red tag on it. You put your stuff in it lock and take the key. It is $35.00 if you lose the key.

We also us the safes and never had a problem

There was a thread a couple months ago about a room that was broken into at OKW and the safe was pried open and the valuables in it taken.

Not to alarm anyone, as I'm sure it doesn't happen very often, but the lesson is if you have anything you can't live without, I'd either keep it with you or leave it at home.

But a few years ago, when we stayed at the GF, I locked my wallet in the safe -- and couldn't get it opened again! :earseek:

It was a Friday night, and they had to call a local "safecracker" -- who couldn't come to the resort until Saturday morning! Thankfully, I had my room key and could charge stuff on that, but it was a pretty hairy experience all the same.

The front desk told me they had suffered a few problems like that. It was right around the time the rooms were being renovated. Evidently, moving the safes can cause the computer chips to go haywire.
