I wonder why it is that whenever anyone asks about room view/location request for a DVC stay, we are so helpful? I know that people are trying to be helpful, but this is why I don't think it is.

If everyone asks for a specific view/location/balcony style/elevator proximity blah blah blah that all we are doing is setting people up for either dissapointment or demanding a better/different room?

We have gotten stuck with a 'dud' room at our DVC stay and been dissapointed.
But who is to say that someone else may enjoy a certain view that we did not? By so many people reading these boards, it sort of eliminates the open-mindedness that we need when staying at a resort.

Can't we just suggest that it is a wonderful hotel, and stick to smoking/non-smoking preference?

Or maybe I give these boards too much power, and we are just a drop in the bucket. Thanks for letting me ramble....

I think MS should just stop taking requests since they are just going to offer you what is available at the time you are checking in.

Muushka....I understand your point. But many people are asking about "best rooms, best views, etc" and the information is still valid, even if it is only useful at the time of check-in. Maybe we should make a point of clarifying that.

MS is still typing in requests as reservations are made. I did so last week, asking for non-smoking. At least this way, when I go to check-in, my request will already be in the computer for the check-in CM.

I don't think listing requests at the time of the reservation is a bad thing unless it gives people the wrong impression that their requests have priority over other peoples requets during check-in.

I said that to Jackie at DVC when I talked to her about 2 weeks ago. She said they still want to have the requests on record so that the front desk knows what you are looking for when they pull up your reservation. My guess is they will still be doing some blocking.

I do think the room requests, not just DVC but all over Disney, have gotten out of hand at least in part because of boards like these. People read about these "ideal" rooms and do expect them. Look how many people seem to want only Cabana 8A or 9B at CSR (I think those are ones). Only a few years ago no one would know to make a request like that unless they had actually stayed in the room and wanted it again. The picking out of rooms is only surpassed by the desire for a free upgrade. I do feel for the pressure WDW must be experiencing.

You are also right about what's ideal for one person not necessarily being ideal for another. That's my concern about the Room Ready. With more general requests, they have been able to try and satisfy everyone if they take them into consideration by looking at everyone checking in as a whole. The person who wants ground floor at OKW and the person who wants golf course view could be given the rooms they like without much trouble. With "room ready" they may get opposite rooms just by the luck of the draw. Just a little effort keeps everyone happy.
