I have a trip coming up in October and we are staying at SSR. I definitely want to do a request but my last experience with a fax didnt work out. I faxed a request through tp and requested a room on the main level close to the lobby because my mom was with and has mobility issues. We received a room on the 4th floor at the very end of the hall furthest from the lobby...literally the last room!
So, tell me your experience :)

I remember reading that fax requests are no longer honored or necessary.

I have gotten most of mine via the MDE app. You might also want to have it noted on your resort reservation that there is a guest with mobility limitations.

I've always had pretty good luck noting any requests on my resort reservations - if multiple requests (near elevator, corner room, top floor, etc.) IN THE ORDER THEY ARE IMPORTANT TO ME (from most to least - because I've found they try to honor them in that order) and then asking about them/reiterating my wishes upon check in (in a friendly manner, of course!). :) I also let them know it's fine if I have to wait for a room, if I really want/need something that's not currently available.

EDITED TO ADD: I have not been since the advent of MDE, so can't comment on how that has changed things - for better, or worse. I also agree that because it's mobility issues (I have them now, as well) you should definitely make sure that is noted. I would think they would be more than willing to try and accommodate you as best they can if they understand that.

SSR is a DVC resort and they do not honor requests made by fax. In fact they have asked all DVC members not to send faxes. If this is a DVC point booking then make them with Member Services. If this is a cash reservation do as NikkiBell suggested.

I had great luck with faxed room requests yrs ago but not in the past few yrs. I have recently just been using the MDE app room request but have had no luck at all with my requests. What I do when that happens is to politely ask at check-in for the general area and floor where I would like to be. The CMs have always tried very hard to make it happen & each time I have been placed in the general area that I preferred. Of course, the CM is working with very limited inventory at that point but I have been fortunate. If you booked your vacation through a travel agent, he/she should easily be able to put in a specific request for you on your reservation and given your concerns, this would definitely be warranted. If you booked directly with WDW, then consider a call to Guest Services well before your arrival date, explaining the situation, and requesting some assistance. Your request is b/c of mobility issues rather than theming or personal taste so it should be a higher priority. Do make sure that any room request you make with tp or via the MDE app is consistent with any request made by your TA or you make with Guest Services (nothing contradicts). Best of luck!

Thank you for your responses. My mom won't be with us on this trip so it is more of a request for convenienc. We aren't DVC members (I wish!!!) so I guess I will just add a request and hope for the best. Won't make or break our trip. I was just curious because I read so many posts of people who's requests are honored.

From a room selection, i'm happy with what I put into online. Anything more specific and I do online checkin and then pick up the phone can call them to make sure it's correct and they understand the importance.

Fax - an antique techology developed in the 1800's and mainstreamed by Xerox in the 60's. Normally what I call "The lowest common denominator"

Yes. In fact, the DVC member magazine has said that faxes will be thrown out unread.

I'm not sure if it's any different with a cash reservation (I would guess not), but the way to do it is the way NikkiBell recommended.

Can anyone tell me how to put in a room request via the MDE app?
If it makes a difference, one of my bookings is using a dreams agent (can I make a room request if a TA "owns" the booking as opposed to myself?) and the second is on points in a DVC.
Thanks

I think with a TA, they have to make the request for you, unless you do it during online check in. The points stay you can email Member Services or call them.

Thanks Sammie.
My TA has put in the request, I was just curious to see what it said in the system.
And my points stay are using rented points through a third party.
I have to request them to request additional towel packs so may add the room request to that email.

Thanks!!

While I haven't done DVC and have only once worked through a TA, I usually put in a verbal room request when I book my trip...i.e. convey it to the reservationist on the phone and then I also put in my requests during online check in. We've always gotten exactly what we asked for. Even plugging in our anticipated arrival time has seemed to help as we always seem to have our room ready upon arrival- even early morning arrivals.
