We booked a room only ressie (as that is all you can do for now) for Jan 2010. It's a family suite at ASM for 14 days which include MLKJ weekend. Now I know prices are not out yet for Jan, but Disney went by the HIGHEST proce for the entire year of 2009 which was Dec christmas week for a price quote of $4800 this was like $364/nt. Why would they choose that week's price when I am clearly booking in Jan and prices are going to change anyway? Does anyone know why they do this? Our ressie was strictly room only with nothing else added in except tax. Thanks!

When you make a reservation before the rates are out, disney will charge you based on the highest rate of the current year. They will adjust the rate to the correct rate once they release the real rates.

Thanks!
I dont know why they do this, but when quoted I nearly fell off the travel agents chair!! LOL!:rotfl:

They do that because they dont know the rates. Its easier to refund money then to say "hey you owe us more money"

That just happened to us on Monday also. I can't wait until the new rates come out so I can see how much we are saving.:rolleyes1

That's why we always wait until the prices have been published (Aug) before reserving a room. We've never not be able to get what we want at that point.

Oh, ok! I didnt want to wait until August (anxious?LOL) also, the dates we are going span MLKJ weekend so I didn't want to be blocked out. I see others have run into this. Whew!
I wish it was explained to us initially. Thanks everyone!

I understand completely. I made our reservation as soon as I was able, in Dec 2007 for our April trip. The only thing you still need to be aware of, is what happens if you want to change to a package, once the rates get released. If you want to change your room only to a package, you will need to make a new reservation, with a new deposit and cancel the existing reservation. They will refund your room only deposit, since they can't move the money from a room only to a package.
