Hi, we are booked for two rooms, with free dining for 8 nights for my family (me DH and our 6 kids). We wanted dad to come along too, and it turned out cheaper for us to get a third room at ASMo than a family suite or two larger rooms. Dad is retired military and will probably get very discounted tickets, but since we are not going until Jan of next year, we have no idea how much his tickets will be. This year it was $99 for 4 days. So we got dad a "room only", no package. We figured if his tickets were pretty cheap, it was be more cost effective for him to just buy his food. Now we are thinking it might have been a better idea to get him a two or three day ticket just so he would have the FD. Is it too late to add the free dining now?

I don't think it's to late. You have until Dec 20th to make a change. Call Disney and have them run some numbers for you. I do know that everyone in each room will have to be on the same package to get it. (room, tickets & meal plan) Also, the values are getting the counter service meal plan free. You can upgrade to the regular dining plan for a small charge per person.

It's not too late as long as they still have rooms available for the free DDP promotion. Your trip is far enough away that it should be but I wouldn't wait, call as soon as you can to make the change. Then you'll have until 45 days before arrival to make changes to your ressie without paying a penalty (assuming that the change would make your package cost less, no penalty if your package costs more.)
