We changed our reservations so we could get in on the Free Dining. So our first day we have a room only reservation ... then our package begins on the second day. Anyone else do this?

Do you have to actually check out and check back in? Or can it be done with a quick stop at the front desk?
What are the chances that we will be able to stay in the same room?

We are staying at POP

All the time.

Yes, but it's usually quick.

Yes.

Pretty good. Your odds increase if you make sure the 2 reservations are linked together and also make sure you alert the CM checking you in on day 1 that you will be starting your package the next day and would like to stay in the same room.

Very nice idea.
We arrive normally on day 1 a bit tired from traveling - so we go to DTD until our room is ready and then 'crash' in our room. We eat light for dinner on day 1.

So check out on the morning of day 2 and re-check in.
Day 2 through day 9 we are ready to do the parks - 8 full days in the parks :cool1:

On day 9 check out and re-check in. If they move us to a new room - so be it. We will be mostly packed to go home, since it will be our last full day in WDW and leave for home the next morning.
ie..
Day 9 night no package because on day 10 we depart early in the AM for home.

So with your idea - I could make 3 reservations - day 1 night no package, day 2 though day 9 do a ticket-meal-room package, then night of day 9 no package.

It will save us from having extra meal vouchers and not needing the extra park ticket days.

Thank you for the idea.
We have never done a package because we could not use all the ticket days or food vouchers (TS, CS & snack) - since on the last day we leave for MCO around 8 AM.

I don't think on your check out leaving day you need to worry about meals. The dining plan is based on nights stayed, not days. So you wouldn't have any dining credit left for that day if you've used them all. So no need to make a room only for that day. And it would short you on dining credits for your last full day you actually are there.

We have done room only our first night if we have a late flight in, and I have reservations linked as a continuing reservation.
But sometimes I don't and start the package right away. I save the CS credit to use for a breakfast, and will use my saved TS credit for a 2 TS meal during our visit.
