We just found out it is a good thing we did not schedule an August trip this year... because baby #3 is due at the end of July!!!

AHHHHH so excited!

But back to my question. We will be visiting as a four person family in Feb with the 17 mo old twins. If all goes well, we'll have a fifth by August. How soon is reasonable to head back down for another visit? I was fantasizing about going for Christmas but maybe that is crazy. The new baby would be only 4 mo old, the girls would be 2 yrs 3 mo. We could also just wait till spring but that seems like FOREVER.

Also; with three under three we are talking about bringing a grandma or babysitter. Anyone have any insight as to which would be best?

First...CONGRATULATIONS!!!

As long as you plan to take it slow and let your infant/twins set the pace I think you'll be fine at Christmas. I would go into the parks early, take a nice nap in the afternoons and then head out for some fun in the evening. Definitely doable in my opinion. :)

Thank you!!!! I am beyond excited :)

I have heard that the younger babies are actually pretty easy at DW since they basically eat & sleep. We waited till our current munchkins were 1 yr (crawling) for their first trip. Now that they are walking I can already imagine the zooming in all directions!

I'd talk to your pediatrician and make sure that the whooping cough vaccines have all been fully applied. That is the big risk -there is quite a bit of whooping cough out and about from people who didn't vaccinate - and it older kids and adults its usually just a bad cough and sometimes doesn't get diagnosed. In babies, its a bigger deal. Other than that, when your pediatrician says you are good, you are good.

Good thinking. I keep thinking this one will be super easy (assuming it is one) compared to the preemie twins--but I keep forgetting a baby is a baby...so we'll still have to be careful regarding health issues, especially with a plane ride. I will ask the Dr at the girls next appt what he thinks off hand.

Congratulations!

Our first trip to WDW DD was 3.5 months old. We had a few problems, but those were mostly due to my poor planning. We went back a little shy of 5 months and had a much better trip. DD was very set in her ways about napping and had to nap in a dark dark room. So for us, it meant limited park time, but we still had a wonderful time being somewhere warm, beautiful, and child friendly. And of course they are free. :D We loved the baby care centers. My favorite was Epcot's. It was very relaxing and had a movie playing for the little ones. My least favorite was the one in the Studios.

Personally, I think as long as you have 1 adult per child it's very do-able. I guess I would either plan to cook or make sure your resort has places you want to eat in case you end up spending more time than you first anticipate there. We still tend to spend quite a bit of time at our resort, so I always try to find one where I know we will be happy and where there is food we like to eat.

DD loved WDW when I took her at 2. She got so much more out of the parks vs when we took her at 19 months.

Congratulations! I would go whenever you think is right for you, but definitely before your twins turn 3. I would make sure that if I was booking a trip at the 11 month mark that I would be able to cancel it if my baby turned out to be horrendous. So be sure to take into account your use year and banking/ borrowing situation for the event that you need to move your trip back. Colicky babies tend to settle down by 4 months, but I know I would not have been ready to travel to Disney with my 4 month old. Personally, I would go for a less busy time than Christmas with 3 little kids. Your baby will be easy, but your twins will not want to wait in lines. Do you need to go Christmas week, or could you go something like the first week of December? I also vote grandma if she realises she is being brought for child care help. Make sure that is absolutely clear if you ask her to join you.

Chock full of good advice, thank you. My fave is "if my baby turned out to be horrendous"... I laughed out loud at work :)

The last time I went to WDW in Dec in 2009 I came home sick with what I thought was a nasty cold but when I went to the doctor I tested positive for whooping cough. It was about 3 months before I felt better after that.

I agree with setting up a trip that can be changed/delayed if necessary. When I was pregnant with our second DS, DH and I talked about making a trip down when he was 7 months. We decided to wait and I'm glad we did. DS had a really bad case of reflux and even with meds didn't sleep well for the first year. No one would have been happy. We eventually went when he was 18 months and had a great time.
