Room discount & dining plan?

Its been awhile since I've used the dining plan so I apologize if this is a dumb question. Planning a last minute trip for myself & my 3 kids, all ages 9 and under. Would like the dining plan as I think its a good deal when only paying for one adult & we like to do lots of character meals. My question is, if I do the 30% room discount deal, can I add the dining plan (obviously OOP)? What if I book through a third party site such as Amex or Expedia? Do I have to add it immediately or can I add it when we arrive?

Thanks!

You can usually use a room only discount code and apply it to a package that contains dining. However, it will require at least a 1-day base ticket for everyone in your party 3 or older.

This must be done through Disney themselves (or an authorized travel agent) and cannot be done through Expedia (and probably not through Amex, though I don't know for sure) as Expedia simply sells portions of blocks of rooms and they do not offer the dining plan at all (they don't sell packages, in other words).

After you book (if you haven't already), this must be added no later than 72 hours before date of check-in, so it cannot be added when you arrive. If you do add it after the 45 day mark, then the balance due will be...well, due at that time (since packages must be paid off by 45 days from check-in).

If you purchase a room-only reservation through a third-party broker, you are not eligible for a dining plan. The plan is a package add-on, so it may only be added to a package reservation booked through WDW Travel. A travel agent can book a package on your behalf, but if you book through a third party broker who purchased a block of rooms from Disney and is reselling them, it's not counted as a package. Even if you're also buying tickets through the same broker.

In general, a package must include the room and at least one-day park tickets for everyone registered age 3 and over. Annual passholders and those eligible for the military room discount can book packages that are room and dining, no tickets. DVC members who book through Member Services can add DDP to their reservations without booking a package (DVC doesn't book packages).

Cafeen has covered the deadlines for adding a dining plan.
