Ok...Here's my question. I know that normally when you check into your resort you can put a cc on file to use to be able to make charges to your KTTW card. But what happens if you don't want to have charging priveledges on your card and prefer to pay for everything with cash? Also, what happens with things like internet, how do they charge that, or is it something that you pay for up front? Just curious. We've always just charged everything to our room, but this year I don't want to do that, so I'm curious as to how that is handled. TIA!

I was always asked up front if I wanted to be able to charge to the room, so I know there is an option at that point to say no. I don't know about the internet, though - I would assume that if you aren't going to charge to your room you would need to go down and pay for it in advance with cash or whatever you are going to use instead of a credit card on your room key.

You can certainly not put charging privileges on the room key. However, as with most hotels, they will still take a credit card to cover internet charges and the like. You can still pay for those things in cash at the end of your trip, but they will take the credit card just to make sure.

3 yrs ago I wasn't asked if I wanted charging priveledges on my room key... I would have declined as I prefer to pay cash...... I was just TOLD that my card was attached to my room key.... so, DH is swimming in Stormalong Bay and LOSES his room key in the pool    Once we could not find it, I ran to the front desk and asked if they could cancel his room key and reissue one... they did :thumbsup2 I was just so glad it wasn't at a waterpark or theme park!

Last fall I was ASKED and simply declined.... made it less stressful :rotfl:

As far as the internet, I"m not really sure.... I would guess that you would get an itemized statement on the last morning and you would have to pay at the desk upon check-out?

Another, room charging question if i can butt in on this thread. My CC expires a day before we leave! Can we charge to our room until this time or wont we be able to use the card. Im not sure whether we will get CC that starts the day after before we leave on 18th August

Not sure if there system will pick it up or not when you check in but the problem you may run into is most of the charges on put on your card when you check out. So if your card expires then it will reject the charges. You should receive a replacement card well before the other expires????

At check-in they have always asked if I wanted CC charging privileges, and have told them no, on the card it states no charging

never have had a problem

I thought so, what will we have to do? Put both the cards down, the one that expires on the 31st August and the one that starts on the 1st September:confused3

You can use room charges (leave you CC on file) and go done the night before check out or some other time and pay with cash. Then you don't have to carry cash around the park.

I don't know about internet though, when I used the phone last year, the .75cents went onto my room charge bill. But if it's like other hotels then you'll pay for it on your computer from a website that will come up when you try to use it.

the internet in the business centers is/was $20 for 1/2 an hour -- I have used the one at the Yacht club, but on my last trip I had a rental care and went to the kinko's on Orange Blossom Trial(not that far away)and only paid about 12/15 for an hour.

You should have the new card well before the old one expires (in fact, if expiration is at end of August, I am surprised that the new one hasn't shown up yet). Once you get the new card and activate it, the old card will be deactivated and won't be able to be used any longer (even though it may still be before the expiration date). Thus, you will (or should) have only one active card at the time you got to WDW and that is the card you should use.

I would contact your credit card company asap to request a new card so you can get it and activate it before you leave for WDW.

In the past I"ve always handed over 80% of my cash to the front desk and they apply it as a credit to my reservation and I can use the room key charge against it. A couple of times over the course of the week if I was in the main bldg I'd swing by the front desk if it was empty and ask my current balance. Each time upon check out, I'd stop at the front desk and was given back any cash I hadn't used.

It worked great for me! :thumbsup2 This way I had charge privilidges and the convenience of only having to throw my room key in my back pocket for the day... without having to use a credit card.

I would have never thought of that. That's a great idea!:)

I would think that even if your room key isn't set up for charging that anything like internet or phone calls from the room WILL go on the bill for your room.

I usually charge things to the room, then stop by with cash periodically to pay it off. I found out in February that you can NOT put a gift card down and have charges applied to it before your credit card. The CM told me it would work, but then SURPRISE! When our bill came on check out day they had charged everything to my credit card!:scared1: They fixed it, BUT it took several days for that credit to appear back on my credit card. The second CM told me they can't set your account to subtract money from a gift card - you have to charge the items first and then pay the charges with the GC at the front desk.

klwdisney.. thats what we want to do.. put down money on our room card and just use the room card to pay for purchases/dinners etc.. that way I can always just add money to the room if I need to. The room cards they give you are those the ones that we saw people wearing on lanyards last time? We werent there long enough to bother putting money on the card I just had our wallets with us and paid cash.

I think there may be some confusion as to what charging to the room means. There are two ways items can be charged to your room. One is by giving your room key to a cashier in a shop or a server in a restaurant. In this case, the room key is used like a credit card and you sign a receipt. To do this, you either have to have a credit card on file with the front desk or have a cash balance applied to the room key. The other way is through "incidentals" like telephone calls made from the room phone. You do not sign a separate receipt for these items, but the charges will appear on your room folio when you check out. This is why they PREFER to have a credit card on file, even if you DON'T have charge privileges on your room key. However, you can settle your entire account with cash if you wish, including having cash available to use on your key for charging privileges.

I usually have a credit card on file for the room and incidentals only, and no charge privileges on the room key. Like a previous poster, I don't want to have to be overly concerned if the room key gets lost or feel like I have to run back to the resort immediately to put a stop on it.
