Who besides me just loved this show on HBO? The acting is so good! I am hoping this is not the last season and HBO changes there mind. There is SO much crapola on television how nice to watch an intelligent series for a change. Delicious. ;) ;)

Yesterday was the last episode. My dbf loved that show and practically cried when he found out it was over.

Loved it!!! Unfortunately, it is definitely the last season. BBC pitched in during the first season (they paid $20 million, and HBO paid $80 million). Then, it became too expensive for the BBC, so they pulled out of the project. Now, HBO had to foot the entire bill....it was just too much for them. In the US we got to see seasons 1 and 2, but in the UK they do not have the rights to show season two. I consider us lucky to see both!!

I really wish there were more....I am going to miss Pullo!!!

I soo much wish they would bring it back as "The Aventine" With Pullo and the lesser characters. Occassional appearances by Octavia and the fam.

Hey, it could happen. :confused3

I was so upset when I found out they were canceling. And now HBO is coming up with some kind of series about SURFING??? We already have enough mindless fluff on TV. :(

It's sad to see it go. But it will be a good one to buy on DVD, since there is so much detail and crazy dialogue - you can watch it over again and probably catch alot you've missed. The sets and costuming are stunning in this show - as well as the dialogue. A true original.

Now - where can we find Pullo in his next gig? Anyone?:confused3 ;)

The show was insanely expensive to produce. I think HBO would have to charge $20 per month at least to afford to produce programming like that on a continual basis. :faint:

Thanks Bicker - it actually sounds good - great cast.:thumbsup2

Yeah, it is rare when I know four of five in a show, before it starts.s

I wish Vorenus and Pullo had just gotten married. The love those two had for
each other made me WEEP.:sad1:

Hmmm... shades of Carnivale?!

I, for one, will truely miss Rome... Can't wait for it to come out on DVD.

Why do all the good show go? I and DH loved this show.

For all of the enjoyment I've gotten out of shows like Rome, Sopranos, Carnivale (dead), Deadwood (dead), and Sex and the City (dead), I'd gladly pay that $20 a month. We actually looked forward to television when those shows are on.

I'm defecting to Showtime. Maybe they can keep their shows running. :thumbsup2

Babylon Fields sounds intriguing! A comedic drama? Not so sure about that... do you have anything to compare it to?

Shows are kept running by viewers, not networks. Blame viewers for not flocking to HBO in such high numbers to justify the cost of Rome.

Showtime has lots of good series, though: Dexter, L Word, Brotherhood, Weeds, and the Tudors looks excellent. By contrast, HBO is a little light on series, AFAIC; of the returning series, we only like Big Love, Deadwood (maybe we'll get those two two-hour movies?), and the Wire (and the Wire is going into its last season -- that's an artistic decision, not a ratings decision). Although, HBO does have some very interesting series in development right now (and Showtime doesn't AFAIC): 12 MILES OF BAD ROAD, TELL ME YOU LOVE ME, and the one my wife's really looking forward to, TRUE BLOOD.

Another ROME devotee here. I was not happy to discover that the series had ended, especially with Deadwood's demise, too.

Both Deadwood and the Wire are ending "early" due to artistic decisions made by the creators. In the case of Deadwood, David Milch simply wants to do other things, and he isn't interested in someone taking over his creation. In the case of the Wire, Ed Burns and David Simon feel that five years tells the whole story they want to tell.

My DBF and I had a date to watch it every Sunday. We had NO idea that was the last episode and were devastated! It was one of our favorite shows.

Well, you know season 1 is already out on DVD....it's $80...pretty pricey, but worth it....especially for the Pullo shots!!!

I the "The Aventine" would be a GREAT series!!!!
