The Sagamore-Lake George, NY

NO! YUCK! TERRIBLE!

We spent two MISERABLE nights there about a year and a half ago. The place is showing it's age and really, really needs a complete overhaul. They first put us into a room in a BASEMENT that REEKED of mold. The second night we were in a nicer room, but it was still not worth what they were charging--not even close. It was decorated in Brady Bunch colors, and was really cheaply furnished.

We witnessed a near brawl in the pub between a bunch of drunks, there were two very noisy wedding parties that literaly took the entire resort over, and other than the one dinner at the place up on the golf course, the food ranged from poor to average and was very, very expensive. The restaurants were poorly staffed with poorly trained servers who didn't care because the gratuity was automatically added, and the main dining room was dirty.

We will NEVER go back. We were incredibly disappointed with the place, it has gone so downhill in the past ten years between visits that it's really sad.

ducklite- That's sad. I have marked that resort as a place to visit because of what friends have said. Oops! There goes a family reunion place I was thinking of.

We loved Nemacolin Woodlands resort. It's in PA

ducklite-while I have an honest person here, have you been to Atlantis? DD is graduating and we were thinking of going to the Cove at Atlantis. I have heard as many goods as bads.

Sorry for going OT.

I haven't been to Atlantis yet. It was one of the places we considered for our upcoming vacation, but for a variety of reasons we choose another location. I've heard good and bad as well. Sorry I can't be more help.

Hey - never even thought of a cruise - I'll have to look into that. I have never been on one and the kids have no desire to that. is May too early to go out of NY?

Brandy - I love tripadvisor - i was on it all last night.

I'm thinking a little longer than just a weekend - maybe Thursday to Sunday 0r Monday.

We're going on a 5 night Carribean cruise for our 15th anniversary.

When do you go and from what port? Just curious since you are from PA too. I'm trying to figure out if I need to fly to a port in early May - our anniverasry is the 8th.

Fort Lauderdale in March. You can PM me if you want more info, unless my pm's are disabled because of pts (not sure). The cruise is pretty cheap, and DH had FF miles for the flight.

We left NYC on May 6th last year, our anniversary and Mother's Day, and the weather was beautiful! I wore capris and a light jacket, and sail-away was awesome, going by the statue - one of the best moments of the cruise! :thumbsup2

We also took a DCL a couple of months ago, and even though I loved it, between getting to the airport for security, waiting, flying, getting luggage, and taking a car, it took close to 8 hours in travel time, both ways. However, it only took 20 minutes to get to the NYC port. We've decided that for our next cruise, we'll only leave out of NYC.

DH and I spent our 10 year wedding anniversary last year at Newport, RI. It was so beautiful and romantic! We stood at a beautiful B&B called The Francis Malbone House. We went sailing, on tours of the mansions, the beach, romantic dinners. It was fantastic! We also took our first trip away that required a plane ride in Oct. to WDW. I felt a little weird being that far away from the kids, but we had a great time! We only went to the MK for the MNSSHP and the rest of the time was spent at the resort(CR Tower MK view)and enjoying each other without the interruption of kids! We have also enjoyed going to Cape May, NJ. I just love romantic B&B's!

How about the Grove Park Inn in Asheville NC? You could go to the Biltmore House.
My DH just got through doing the floors on some of the Spa area at the Grove Park and I went up one night when he was working and that spa is Awesome. We are wanting to go and stay the night on Valentines day I cant wait.

They have good deals out of NY in May. The port is actually cape Liberty cruise port in NJ. It's 5 nights on the Explorer Of the Seas-a wonderful ship! Check out Royalcaribbean.com and search by Bermuda.

That cruise looks great - thanks for the port name - Iwould not have found that. I was looking for NY. Now to talk DH into it.

I'd be very careful with cruises. The last one we were on was over run with unruly kids and drunk teens--and it was the first week of October--not a traditional school holiday. Hardly romantic. (And the food was terrible--I lost weight on the cruise!)

If you want to consider a cruise, I'd only consider one that caters to an adult audience as opposed to one that's a "party ship" or family line or billed as "something for everyone."

Ann - how do I find a cruise like that? I finally got DH to agree to one. I thought Royal Carribean was a good ship for adults.

Lots of people love it, but we didn't. There were kids in the adult pool, kids playing in the elevators, drunken teens staggering down the halls after port calls, it was about as far from romantic as the family beach at Castaway Cay. We saw less kids on DCL than on RCCL, and those we did see were far more supervised and better behaved.

If you want a cruise without kids (or were there are very few of them) look for lines that don't offer kids programs, babysitting, or family areas/activities.

That's SO weird...I just spent some time researching romantic places to go for our anniversaries last night.....

I found this place in Costa Rica; www.tabacon.com

It LOOKS awesome! Anyone been there? I think we might do our ten year anniversary here.....

Nothing really to add just that my 15th wedding anniversary is in May too.
Happy Anniversary to you and hope you have a nice trip.
