Romance at ASMo?

I'm throwing around the idea of taking a Labor Day weekend trip with DH. My mom said she'd watch the kids, and the AP rate is quite nice.... Only $127 including tax for two nights at ASMo.

But... DH just wants to relax by the pool and have some drinks, go to dinner, and enjoy the weekend.

Is this the right place? :confused3

We could do a moderate for just over $100 more. I tried getting in somewhere with our DVC points, but it would just be SSR and we'll be there in 2 weeks anyway.

Help! Is this a good decision? Will it be relaxing? Is the pool fun or the pool bar fun?;)

Are king beds just a request, or guaranteed? I need some advice!

I think I'd choose a Mod over a Value for this kind of stay. Too many 'kids' and not enough 'quiet pools'.

We're staying at POR when I do the W&D 1/2M and I'm not sure if we're even going to go to the parks, outside of the post-race party. Too much to do and enjoy at the resort!

Heh.
ASMO is about as romantic as a bag of Cheetos.

Just my opinion of course, I'd go for CSR instead.
King beds are a request for values, but I believe you can book Kings at mods.

I have never stayed in a value but personally I would do POR especially the AB area. This is a large resort but is absolutly beautiful with the winding water and two different sections. It is very romantic to walk around the resort and they also offer carriage rides and you can rent surry bikes and bike around the resort (might not be totally romantic like the carriage ride but still a ton of fun). The pool bar is also very nice and there are a lot of quiet pools around the resort if you want something more relaxing than the main pool. I know a lot of people think POFQ is more romantic because it is smaller but I do not agree (although I do think that POFQ is a great resort in general) however I think that the grounds are not nearly as nice, especially with the AB section of POR as the foliage around the buildings makes it feel like they are much more secluded and private than they really are. Plus the POFQ theming at the pool and food court is just not romantic at all in my opinion it is much more in your face and gaudy than POR. You also have Bob in the lounge who is a lot of fun if you want to just sit back with a drink and have free entertainment for the evening. Also you can get a guaranteed king bed in the room as it is a booking category not a request.

I think the All Stars are fun, but not romantic in the least. I'd definitely upgrade to a moderate. I think any of them are more scenic, quiet, and peaceful than the All Stars.

Well I disagree with the others.

Romance is what you make of it, not where you stay or how much $ you spend.

We spent our honeymoon at POP and it was wonderful. DH brought breakfast to the room every morning, we took walks around the grounds holding hands, he gave me foot massages every night, just was over all attentive.

If you want to stay at ASMo, then go for it. As far as the kids running around thing....it is DISNEY, they are everywhere. lol
You can always sneak off to a hidden spot to make out, makes it fun and exciting. ;)

Stay where you wish and if you go with a romantic attitude.....it will be there.

I love the values, stay at them all the time. But if you're looking for a quiet time relaxing near a pool, I wouldn't recommend them at all. Lots of kids who make lots of noise.

Actually, about the only Disney Resort that makes me think of romance is the Poly, and there is a quiet pool there. But I don't know how quiet it will be. If I'm honest, I think I'd go somewhere other than Disney for a quiet weekend with just my husband. YMMV.

I personally would not choose ASMo for a romantic getaway. We stayed at POR last year and it was beautiful. I could totally see DH and I taking strolls around the resort. It was very peaceful.

I am not one of those devoted POR fans, and it wouldn't be my favorite for a family holiday. But for a romantic couple's getaway, I think POR is the way to go over ASmo. Any of the moderates has a more adult and romantic atmosphere.

We spent our honeymoon at POP and it was wonderful.

I can see having a good, quiet time at POP. Stayed there a few times and there are a lot of quiet spots, a walk around the lake is nice.
But ASMO - good Lord!! The rooms are loud (that dresser still makes me gag, I'd feel like I'm doing it in Toontown!!). The pools are loud. The whole resort is loud, loud, loud and there is no place to enjoy some "grown up" time.

If the OP doesn't want to spend the extra for a mod then POP or even ASMU could work. ASMU has a nice area with a fountain and the buildings furthest from the main hall are quieter.

ASMo isn't what I think of when I think of romance...however, I have to agree with the pp who said that romance is what you make it.

If you make it romantic, then it will be. If you want the resort to create the romance for you, then I'd go with a different resort.

In 2001, I was staying at ASMo when DH proposed. I found the resort to be extremely romantic during that trip because everything we did was about us; we tuned out everything/everyone else.

If you are already worried about the noise/crowds/kids, I'd maybe go with something different. If you're already feeling apprehensive, there's a chance you'll bring that feeling with you on the trip--that will hinder the romance for sure.

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:OMG !!!!!!! that was so freaking funny !! When I saw the title of the thread I kind of thought if anything, it's an advertisement for birth control with all the kids running around !! The last thing I'd think is romance ! :rotfl2::rotfl2:
(I'm TOTALLY kidding so please don't flame me for that one)

But on the serious side, I would recommend POR for a mod. It's a gorgeous resort, you can take a boatride to DTD, you can take a carriage ride, the quiet pools are beautiful and you can take romantic strolls along the water. For the little extra money it would be, I would totally upgrade to a mod. I hope you have a wonderful romantic weekend !!

Good idea.

We stayed at CBR for our honeymoon. We loved walking along the beach and spending time on the hammocks. One night we even saw the Epcot fireworks while in a hammock on the beach. It was super romantic.

I would say POR
Or try to waitlist for OKW.... SSR will also be nice even though you will have been ther not long before just request the far away from everything so they say Paddock section

If you are going in a few weeks, I wouldn't go back again a month later for a "romantic" trip. If mom is willing to watch the kids, go somewhere else.

Thanks for all the replies. I am feeling uncertain about staying at a value (never been a big fan) and I think for this weekend it might not be the right choice.

But, instead of spending $230+ on a Moderate, I think I might just use our points and do SSR for the weekend. I figure I could waitlist at AKV or OKW hoping something will open up.

We were at POR for a night this past May and it is a lovely resort. I also LOVE CBR. I've never been to CSR so that would be an option too. I totally forgot how wonderful the quiet pools at the mods. That's a great thing to consider!

SSR can definitely be romantic. There are so many wonderful places to walk and just sit, especially in the Congress Park area. The pool overlooking Downtown Disney, take a boat ride up to Riverside and go listen to some good music, eat some beignets.

Take the money and spend it on a romantic dinner or a couples massage.

If you use your DVC points, with the weekends being so high you could see how many points it would be to stay at the Grand Floridian or Polynesian. Might actually be fewer points than SSR on a weekend.
