Do I get credit for being the President of my son's high school music boosters for 2 years? Worked full time, single parent organized a trip to WDW for >100 people, organized fund raisers, etc. NEVER AGAIN! I worked hard at getting other parents involved and it did pay off. I made several friends doing it and they all attended my son's wedding so it was well worth all the effort.

I was never a room mother but it must be fun to work with all those kids. For all the parents that want nothing to do with it-"assign" them the worst jobs, if you have other mothers that are willing to help accept it willingly and delegate.

OKay enough words of wisdom.

Sorry Krista, I guess it might be Lori that we will be bailing out with Joyce. HHMMM. Of course I may be in there with them and it wouldn't even take any wine for me to knock on doors.

Julie aka Garry's wife: I am so jealous! I got a fortune in a cookie yesterday that said "Good news will be coming by mail." I ran home after work expecting to see the Fed Ex pak sitting in my door. No such luck. Am I naive or what!

RE: Sept 11- In Phila. today many office buildings empty out onto Market St and walked to City Hall at 10:00 AM. Very somber with the bells ringing then the HS for the Creative & Performing Arts Choir singing. Remembering what it was like a year ago, the adm. assist saying that a plane flew into the WTC then the Pentagon, I thought at the time it was a prank on a radio station then leaving the city in the middle of the day and staying glued to the television in disbelief.

Enough from me. Denine I hope you get the Docs soon. I'm getting nervous for you even though it is a month away.

I really do feel sorry for you, Lori! Been there done that for several years and then like a dope I volunteered for my niece and nephew. Our school was very difficult because we had a budget and out of that we had to do a craft, have food, games and a souvenir. The food could not be homemade supposedly because of health concerns. So for 1.00 per kid we had to do it all. Couldn't fake it because to get reimbursed we had to submit receipts. Okay, so I didn't submit them all. Then the parents that NEVER volunteer complain about this or that. And then to put up with the parents that are anti-Halloween. Oops, I can really go off on that, too. BUT, it is well worth it in the end for YOUR kids. My twins were and still are happy that I was SOOOOOOO involved. Being involved allowed us to sit on the core committee when they opened the new Middle School. Glad they are in college now--- just thinking back makes me tired.

Mickey02, you did not come off braggy at all and I hope I didn't make it sound like you did, I'm sorry if I made you feel that way.

We all seem to be very involved in our childrens lives and that is good. It's when you are NOT involved that they get in trouble and feel like you don't care. I am not involved deeply at school because I still have little ones at home and no daytime babysitter but am extremely involved in starting and carrying many new family/childrens programs at church and am Hockey Mom for now THREE children playing hockey (the hockey mom does a 50/50 draw EVERY week to raise money for parties - and then throws the parties! - and such and such).

Lori - have you searched the internet for party ideas? I'm sure you have, I suspect you are very good at it! At least your school will let you have a Halloween party in Grade 4 - ours won't - they stop at 2nd grade :(

Maybe we should do our own shipboard Halloween party for the kids one of the last two afternoons? you know, trick or treat door to door? Or not...... :D

I am all for Shipboard trick or treat for the kids! Let me know if you all with the kids decise on it and give a total of how many, what time ages etc... I will come up with some great treats ( I don't like giving candy but can come up with some other cool stuff (worked at the Disney Store for 7 years.):p

If I have to sign for DOCS I will never get them! Calling my next door neighbor right now to be on the look-out!

Brought work home and suffering at the computer so I know immediately when you all post. TEE HEE! Oh for the days when I could leave the hospital and the work stayed there!

Wow.
What an awesome support group you all are.

I just reread my post and thought, "humph, what a whiner":D Thank you all for the great support. I lost track of the brass ring. It's not about the approval of 100% of the other Moms. It's about the kids. I think I'll do the sewing of bags idea for starters. (They'll see all of the personal time I put into it and not dare complain, right? Oops, nope, I don't care about the image!)
I have a slightly better budget and less strict food rules than Sandy did. I think I'll get thru this one. Thanks girls.

Now about everything else. I never said I was a cheap date. I seem to be able to put down a few and still keep the details. (like the right room numbers:cool: )

Denine, WHERE are your Docs. I'M ready to call your TA!

Trick or treating ... I'll go for it if all you with the experience really think it could work. I don't know about door to door since we're all over the ship. When do ya think?
If it doesn't work out, we'll all be stuck with a few pounds of treats to carry back home, but seriously, if a few people get all excited about anything on this thread, it's contagious. Count me in, if it's a 'go'.

Hey, we made it thru the day without any bad 'new' news. Time to breath again. Weird seeing jets in formation overhead today though.
G'night everybody. Love you.

I think the trick or treat idea is a great one! My daughter (3yr) and son (1yr) would love the idea! Let me know if this idea is gonna go, I can help if you guys need me. I'm a former teacher-now homemaker who can help make arrangements.

Lori: Hang in there!

I think you all are great! I can't wait to meet all of you! I know my husband started the posts, but now I've taken over! This board and all the posts have become a daily event for me!!
Thanks for making me and my family so welcome.

Julie

What an awesome support group you all are.

We are a great group and I agree with Julie-I can't wait to meet everyone. It will be weird though to put faces to these posts because we tend to picture people in our minds eye.

The DUdettes are the Cheap Dates in the bunch. I will admit it. :o

Have a good day all! You all are a breath of fresh air.

Ok Ok ok !!!!

I see I am going to have to take off of work
and wait for the Fed Ex guy to come to my house. The
thought of him coming to my door with Doc's in hand and no
one there to sign is more then I can bare!!

Foul, Foul, no fair, no fair!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How can you guys be getting your docs when a lot of us on the 10-12 cruise haven't gotten ours yet???????????????? There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason as to how they are delivering them!!!!!!!!!!!! My 10-12 cruise was booked through DVC, there is no TA. My 10-19 cruise is booked through a TA.

DO I need to be calling DCL????????????

I am excited for those of you that got yours, I just want mine for the cruise before this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No kidding Denine.

Dudette#1, you just barely missed the "big photo swap". Several of us "old timers" on the thread were e-mailing pictures to each other just before you came 'on board'
Would anyone mind if I forward on your pictures to Bonnie? Let's see, I have Denine, Kristia, Sandy(JiminyC) and Laurie(Olando). Hey Diana, I never did get yours!
Bonnie, PM me with your email, and I'll send whomever gives permission, I'll send ours anyway. Same goes for anyone else who's interested in a swap!

DreamDoComeTrue - In twenty years your kids will look back & remember you there. Not all kids will be able to have that memory. It will make them better parents someday, knowing that you "took time out" for them. So they will do their best to do the same for their kids. Consider yourself lucky to be able to help.
(And by the way, I am not saying you won't be SOOOOOOO stressed out, because you probably will!!!)

Beth

:Pinkbounc Yes!!! They are here!!!

Our TA called today, and DH is picking up our docs this afternoon!!
I can hardly wait. We are counting not only the days, but the hours, minutes, and seconds.

Lori -- Regarding party ideas, there is always the good old bobbing for apples. Our school traditionally has an all school Halloween party and we always buy tiny pumpkins and have the kids decorate them. Also, we have a game where 2 kids wrap a third with a roll of toilet paper (mummy) It's kind of a race....basically anything to kill time and keep them occupied. Hallmark usually sells a cd or tape with scary music during the season. Maybe someone telling fortunes??

Also, is someone going to do one concise listing of "our activities"? Maybe closer to the time we are leaving or maybe 10 days before? I want to print it out and not miss a thing....

Have a great day!!

Laurie

DreamsDoComeTrue - I'd love to have pictures of everyone and I'll look through my pics to find one of myself and email you with it.

Julie aka wildernessgirl

Jerry called DCL. Our 10-12 docs were shipped yesterday. There is a remote chnace we will get them today, but more likely tomorrow.

I still say it is unfair!

DCL should ship out all docs for a cruise before sending out docs for the next cruise. Except for extenuating circumstances. It just doesn't make sense. We didn't book air or transfers or anything but the cruise. They aren't sent out alphabetically, geographically, by category or by deck number. It is just frustrating! We think they put Goofy in charge of our docs  Mickey must have been in charge of all of yours.

Hang in there, Denine. At least you know that they are coming for sure and when they were mailed!

Lori, I really like Laurie's ideas. Bobbing for apples seems like a lost game. My niece and nephew did it at theirs and LOVED it. I think decorating a small pumpkin with markers is a great idea. A lot of times you can pick those little ones up for like 3/1.00.

Just not fair. I WANT MY DOCS! Maybe today. I know he shows up around 4:00 pm.

I am going for a MRI on my knee tomorrow. It gives out. I do not want to be in a brace or whatever over the cruise. Cross your fingers for me, please.

Got so excited that I forgot to say something. I heard the truck pull up so I went out to greet the driver. When he rounded the truck I told him "boy, do I love you!". He grinned and said he wished he had more reception like that. What did I tell you guys earlier today. He comes around 4 and guess what time it was! Now, hopefully the MRI outcome will be just as good as today was.

Forward our pics on to anyone who wants them:D

Nothing tooooo exciting in the docs (like upgrade), but so fun to have them.

Trick-or-Treat would be fun. Clare will be Lilo. How clever is that?!
Thought, hmmmmm, can double for Tropacalafragawhatever, easy to pack, lightweight, and cute. Maybe there is some way we could do it at the wine tasting, or better yet, before tasting. That deck is pretty empty (according to the experts) unless everyone posting has read all of the posts we have. We could let them go out, then "knock" on the door. I don't know, will have to think.
