For anyone who was on board when The Force Awakens was released was anything special done on board? The music played or the ship horn or character meets?

We are on board when Rogue One was released but it's obviously a Very Merrytime cruise but when the Force Awakens was released it must have been too was just wondering if anything was done.

I need to get on a Star Wars Days at Sea cruise at some point! :)

FWIW, I was on the Wonder on 12/18/15, and Force Awakens opened that day. Im not sure if they did anything special at the 12:01 showing for those who disembarked that morning, but I did go to the first showing for our cruise which was that night. There weren't any special characters on board that I remember and nothing special in the theatre (though a line did start very early for those who wanted to see the movie.) They did have a lot of SW merchandise for sale in the shops and concession stands. It was a 6 night cruise and they showed ROTJ a couple times on board as well.

I boarded the Wonder the day Force Awakens opened. I wasn't on the previous cruise when it premiered that morning. I do know for that cruise that guests were assigned to three specific showings that morning starting at 12:01 a.m. depending on their stateroom I believe. So, you could have been forced to wake up at 3 or 5 just to see the movie on the cruise. I forget what times the other showings were. That came from a cast member I asked the next day when I boarded. I got in line two hours early for the showing that evening. I advise getting in line early, because I know everyone didn't make it in that night. There was a shop during the cruise that sold shirts with The Force Awakens logo with the date and the DCL logo. They also sold other special merchandise in a shop. There were no character meet and greets or anything special to my knowledge.

No special ship horn or character meets on the Fantasy last year.
They did have a special premear-at-sea pin for The Force Awakens that you could purchase while on board.
They also set up a large background display with the movie name and premier date with a red carpet in front of it that was fun to take pictures in front of.

They premiered it the night before the official release date, on The Fantasy, and they had two showings at 7pm, 3D in the Walt Disney Theater and 2D in the Buena Vista Theater, and another 2 showings after. There was yet another showing at 1am and they had additional showings throughout the day on Friday.

We had main dining and they had moved up the start of main dining and second dining that night to better accommodate the show times.

We filled out a form at the beginning of the cruise to state our preferred show time and type and how many tickets we were requesting that we dropped off at guest services.

Not sure, but I think because we had main dining we had the 7pm option on the form but not the 10pm option listed.

Hope that helps! We're going again this year and definitely looking forward to catching the new movie before everyone else in the US!

Interesting. I didn't know they would change dining to make that happen. I will say that the movie did premiere the day before here in the United States starting at around 7 p.m. like you said. All of the popular movies seem to be going to an evening release on the day before rather than a midnight release on the day it's advertised to be released.
