Credit cards are the way to go. I wont pay for flights for years with the well over 1 million miles I earned buying DVC direct
And then do you just pay those credit cards off immediately ?!

I’ve decided that either everyone on this board is either really rich or irresponsible and I would like to be both 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣

Teach me your ways !

Totally irresponsible 🤣🤣 JK kind of, I have definetely taken on some interest for my two contracts, but I paid one off by the time it closed and now I'm aggressively paying this AKV off and I doubt it will be paid off by the time SSR rolls thru but not too far after and that is worth it to me.

I figured as long as I can pay the three before my annual dues roll in I'll feel somewhat accomplished 🤣🤣

Buying direct now would be super irresponsible of me, it would have to be a major sale that I trade in one of these resales for, watch it happen this Summer 🤪🤪 I would actually love if that happened to riv next year

I got a Disney credit card specifically in case this scenario happens for me in the future and in case there is a discount for buying at least some of your direct purchase with a Disney credit card. lol. Disney, I’m waiting on the fire sale.🤣
Would you sell your baylake? It would be hard for me to choose, i love all my babies, except for SSR but she is loaded so don't want to dump her either 😆😆😆

Hahaha yes, we had the cash for the DVC purchase so we paid them off right away, except for the cards we got that had 0% interest for 12 months. Those we will pay off once that 12 months is up.

Edit to add for future readers,I dont recommend getting CC and not paying them off for DVC.

How many nights would I have to stay for one bedrooms with 1000 points 🤔 Lol! Are you selling all 3 of your resales?

1,000 points seemed crazy when I first started but I’m inching closer and closer…I rationalize by saying DVC is my retirement plan…or so I tell my accountant 🤣

And nope, I’m keeping my FW @ CCV and BWV contracts but only bc they are used for specific trips. Selling VGF and buying POLY.

Excellent disclaimer!

I did the same thing. Only bought what I had the cash to pay off, but I carried a fraction on two 0% cards since it wasn't due for a year.

One more question! I’ve read that a lot of people open new credit cards for the points or the 0% APR, after you are done paying everything off do you keep those cards and just not use them?

Just looked up my trip next week. 239 points 5 nights. The is just 3 trips of the 7 we will take this year. Ughh do I need more points????
Absolutely lol. I heard SSR is low maintenance and she has a lot of life left. She may not be the prettiest, but she doesn't mind if you sleep around 🤣🤣 OK I really need to get off these boards for the day 🤣🤣

Usually keep them for 2 years minimum. If you earn a big bonus for spend credit card companies do not like if you close them right away. Eventually down the line I may close a few.

Yes my overall cost of contract spreadsheet and other analysis done by smarter people than me here show that if boughten at the right price SSR is a great value compared to other resorts.

Usually you have to keep the new card an entire year or the bank will claw the bonus back. A lot of times these cards with high points offers have annual fees attached so you can either close it after a year or downgrade it to a lower "product" without closing the card and save the fee. For example if you open a Chase Sapphire Preferred for the 100k UR right now, but don't want the $95 annual fee next year, you can downgrade it to a Chase Freedom or Chase Freedom Unlimited. It keeps the credit line open, but no more annual fee for you.

Realistically I would have to since it would probably be buying Poly and I wouldn’t have a need for an additional 150 points with my current PTO options. There are downsides though: I want only two home resorts so I would have to divest from something. I dislike that 210 BLT points is perfect for me, but I would need about 250 or 260 PVB points for the same room/vacation length at PVB. So it would be a major cost increase for me and a commitment to more points or always booking at 7 months. I love booking at 11 months. Harumph!

I haven't had the booking at 7 months experience yet. I hope it's not too frustrating. I'm pretty flexible on where I'll stay, when, room types, and dates. Like I want to go in January for my birthday but I don't mind what weeks as long as it's in that month, that's how I am for all my trips really.

I cannot be flexible unfortunately. I have to lock in my PTO requests at least 6 months in advance so I need to know if there will be a room! Because I can’t put in later PTO requests if my room request falls through.
